Violin MD oh thank you!! I’m spending a lot more time at home. I had a bone marrow transplant and then severe GVHD so I was in the hospital for a very long time! Here’s to hoping I’m forever cancer free :)
Rachel GVHD sucks but is not necessarily a bad thing. It means you new bone marrow does a good job! My best friend daughter went trough hell 7 years ago with this and is as of now as healthy as she could be! 😊 All fingers crossed for a cancer free life!

Siobhan, can you explain a little bit about why med students and residents pull such long shifts? Here in the US there's been a push to reduce the number of hours medical personnel can work, out of concern for things like fatigue leading to medical errors. (Maybe this is my own biases talking, but I assume it's not as bad in Canada, just because I view you all as more...civilized than Americans.) At this point a lot of the argument we hear from medical educators is "Well, this is how it was done when I was in school and I survived, so you can do it, too." What are your thoughts on the subject?

Great job Doc Had central line had ruptured appendics surgery, developed sepsis and had central line put in 2 week stay at sturgeon hospital in St albert Alberta. Docs saved my life.

I've worked a lot of second shifts. At the theater our week week started on Thursday and ended on Sunday. So when it got to be the beginning of the week for the rest of the world I just wanted to crash. I'd wake up around 1 (after falling asleep around 2 a.m.), and I'd go to Starbucks and get coffee (this was before I thought about owning a coffee machine). I have one now, and a hot water kettle. When I was working at the grocery store (Kroger I would also work the 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. shift). I'm a night owl. Like it's almost 10 p.m. and I'm not even tired. I'm on an antidepressant and some psych meds that are supposed to work, actually the psych meds are working. My ex always would wake up around 6 a.m and he'd get mad at me for staying up too late and not going to bed with him. (I've been divorced for a really long time. (Something to think about if you want to get married sometime). I like your parents. Are they Lebanese? Fully Raw Kristina is part Lebanese and something else (I forget)

Keep it up Shioban! I hope you get to do fun things outside of work, too! I’ve shifted jobs as a nurse every year now and it’s difficult not having family around and not getting real relationships going anywhere really. But the fun side is discovering new places, work cultures and getting new friends all over again!
