Just wanted to clarify that the influence on Point and Kill / Fear No Man was Nigerian not Jamaican. Simz's parents are Nigerian immigrants so these songs paid homage to that heritage. Distinct Fela Kuti influence.
@@mightymike9469 My favorite thing on the internet is when people use their real name on their profile and other people say „ thanks (insert first name)“ immediately shows the age of the latter person, its like carbon dating lol.
It's interesting that your dad mentioned Wizard of Oz... The album has that childlike wonderment vibe with the interludes, very Alice in Wonderland-esque. She has another album titled "Stillness in Wonderland"
This was my favorite album of last year (The production is insane, especially when you consider this is some of the first credited work from the producer, who also happened to grow up with Little Simz during her childhood). Glad to see you guys reacting to it. I am seeing in real time your dad gaining new appreciation for music he wouldn't have gave a second thought about. This channel is on its way to blowing up.
Check out the producer’s main work, with a group called Sault - they are outrageously great. A back catalogue without flaw. He, Inflo, also did a lot of production on Simz’ Grey Area, Cleo Sol’s “Mother” and Adele’s latest album. He’s so talented.
In Little Q she raps about her little cousin if I‘m not mistaken. She mentioned it in one of the interviews that I saw and also had him on stage one time on the UK tour. Great video guys! Appreciate y‘all
Respect for him bringing up the Black origins of a lot of Rock history. And Point & Kill is my favorite track! Obongjayar is Nigerian actually, your dad might be most familiar with reggae and Jamaican voices in music and thats why he thought Jamaica (plus yeah theres a lot of Jamaicans in the UK). but Point & Kill is Afrobeats and theres such good Afrobeats out there, my favorite albums in that genre are African Giant by Burna Boy and The Angel You Don’t Know by Amaarae. Obongjayar’s voice is so unique too I love the whole album, but Protect My Energy and How Did You Get Here are the tracks that had to grow on me. I thought Protect My Energy went on too long for having the same melody, but now i love it how it is. So glad you did the album and that he enjoyed it! And you pronounced my name right (which is rare for the last name) Little Simz album GREY Area is just as great as this imo
Honestly, I think that Little Simz is one of those rappers where you don't fully understand her power, strength and dedication until you watch a live performance. Find some live performances on TH-cam and watch her go. It will blow your mind.
Just some info for Point and Kill, almost every black person in the UK are second or third generation immigrants. Little Simz parents are Nigerian so that's the sound you're hearing on that song. But you're also correct in that Jamaicans were some of the first black immigrants in the UK who were brought over from across the British empire post World War 2 to help "build" back the country that needed a workforce (particularly nurses). Jamaica is one of the biggest influences on modern British urban culture, style, music and slang.
Also on Point and Kill it's actually an African vibe not Jamaican, Simbi's from Nigeria you should check out Burna Boy he's a Nigerian artist that made huge waves internationally if you crave that same african sound.
Atrocity exhibition would be a great reaction in the near future I think. Even though it’s experimental (so ig it seems to be something less accessible?) it would be another great switch in rap styles which seems to be a common theme when considering how different TPAB - flower - even this album is. Other than how dark sonically & thematically the album is, & how frantic & high pitched Danny’s voice, I think it’s album that can be grasped fairly well on all sides.
I know this isn't hiphop but ill suggest a few good albums from last year spellling the turning wheel or st Vincent daddy's home . loved this video keep up the good work
I’d hope to see a continuation of more non hiphop albums. Hip hop is my fav genre but creators always flood rap albums so I can’t ever scratch the itch for some of my favorite albums that are not rap. Not saying to stop rap reactions because I’m def invested in the dads exploration through rap music
You guys should react to the Trilogy album by The Weeknd, it’s an album of remastered versions of his three mixtapes combined into one album. It’s nothing like his new music and it’s very underrated.
I’d appreciate if you’d react to Kid Cudi’s first Man On The Moon, since it’s became one of my favorites albums of all time as well as one of the best at being catchy and gender-bending at the same time within the hip hop genre. And that’s to say the least of it!
Highly recommend that you both check out Genesis Owusu - Smiling With No Teeth. Hes an Australian artist that blends several genres together. My personal favorite album from last year! Thanks for the videos guys you've earned a long time fan!
@@gearvember5313 funnily enough it was totally by accident. I’m touring colleges and the Cambridge area is super stacked. I was randomly walking around Sunday afternoon and I saw a sign for his performance, got tickets and went that night.
You guys should check out Sa Roc shes another very conscious female rapper, CHIKA is also is amazing and deserves a listen for sure. If you want to shock him to death you could try Rico Nasty 😆
Hey Guys love the video. I'd love if you reacted to a short album by Wesley Joseph (also from the UK). I feel like he is one of the most overlooked artists at the moment and think the man deserves more clout

I was going to comment this, thank you for correcting them already. The sound is Afrobeat originated by Fela Kuti, saxophone.
It's interesting that your dad mentioned Wizard of Oz... The album has that childlike wonderment vibe with the interludes, very Alice in Wonderland-esque. She has another album titled "Stillness in Wonderland"
THANK YOUUUU. NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT THIS ALBUM.

This an excellent choice! Both GREY Area and Sometimes I Might Be Introvert are incredible
In Little Q she raps about her little cousin if I‘m not mistaken. She mentioned it in one of the interviews that I saw and also had him on stage one time on the UK tour. Great video guys! Appreciate y‘all
I Love You I Hate You is one of the best rap songs I’ve ever heard
Little Q and Standing Ovation made me cry the first time I heard them

My favourite album from 2021 and one on my top 5 of best album i ever heard, this is a masterpiece
I wonder what Smokey Robinson think of that song I guess he likes it because he did clear the sample
My album of the year 2021, 10/10 album. Thanks for an amazing reaction!
I love this album. Everything you want in a rap album is basically here. So glad to see the enjoyment yall shared in this video
Two Worlds Apart is music heaven

Watching your fathers first listen to "Two Worlds Apart" reminds me of myself, just ear to ear smile. Love it!
Smokey Sample was Agony and Ecstacy! My favourite thing with soul beats is finding new favourite tracks in the samples. It's amazing
Also on Point and Kill it's actually an African vibe not Jamaican, Simbi's from Nigeria you should check out Burna Boy he's a Nigerian artist that made huge waves internationally if you crave that same african sound.
You guys should react to The College Dropout by Kanye West im sure your dad would like at least a few tracks off the album. Such a great album :)
Keep yours eyes out next week 👀

Seconding Turning Wheel by Spellling! That was my favorite album last year, every song was so epic and every detail is perfect
