King Prawn, Dub War, ADF etc laid the foundation for so much of what came after them. Not a lot of people talk about that either, this stuff was a movement of it’s own. Seeing King Prawn in those early days was incredible. I could definitely hear them in Random Hand from the start. Nice one Joe, subscribing.
Absolutely! you can hear the influence echoing through the scene still. Had a funny moment with Roger a Manchester Punk Festival, we were packing up merch and he realised we had the same style merch box. Roger light heatedly jibed that we had copied them, to which I said 'that is the least of the things we've copied of yours mate'
Need to get these a proper listen for sure! Can totally hear their influence on you but also their influence on Pope's of Chilli Town and their vocalists' lyrical ability. I can't get enough of you guys ATM btw, keep smashing it ❤❤
Great job mate! What a band they are. Really love Babar Luck too despite only meeting him a couple of times. Defo had that "someone looks a bit like me doing cool things" vibe with me. Also sealed the deal when I asked him who he supports and he replied "West Aaaaaaaaam". 😊
So good. Always liked that song… probably one of the first ones I heard by them. 🥰 It was great to see them at Handfest! The video - I was wondering if some of it was filmed and sped up… it looks like it. I reckon they might have had some of it with a camera on the bonnet but whether that bit was filmed on busy streets - not sure. I think it might be a mix of stuff. Am interested to know for sure though. I wonder if any behind the scenes pics etc exist and I wonder who made the video for them.
Seeing King Prawn alongside Random Hand at Manchester Punk Festival AND HandFest London last year was an absolute highlight of the year! Keep the reviews coming RH / JT!
King Prawn were such a big part of me getting into local punk when I was a teen. Save Us In This World is one of my favourite "forgotten" songs, it came up on shuffle early last year and I've listened to it 100s of times since, I forgot how much I loved it when the album first came out. Enjoyed this commentary, looking forward to seeing what other bands/songs you cover. And of course we all would looooove to see few KP covers from Random Hand! ❤ P.s. The shirt choice is spot on, well done 😁
Great video Joe, I only watched that video a week or so ago, completely randomly. First time I saw you guys was when you headlined the Arena stage at Rebellion in Blackpool a fair few years ago and you were fantastic. We (me and my brother) met you the next day at your merch table and had a chat. We asked you if you recommended anyone else and you pointed us to The Skints who were about to play, mid afternoon, in the Empress...we can't thank you enough for such an excellent recommendation! Hope you'll do one of these for a Skints track - maybe Ratatat? Looking forward to seeing you guys again at Rebellion this year. Cheers!
I discovered KP in 98ish and instantly loved the sound. I remember seeing them in Carlisle around then and having a chatcwith Al about the old punk zine/distro mag DS4A.
I missed King Prawn first time around and it was actually because of Random Hand I found them once they reformed. Went to see you guys supporting in Colchester in 2013. Great night that was
@@seanclift9192 we see the same thing happening with fans of the newer ska punk bands finding us through them. It's good the scene keeps paying it back up the chain!
Loved King Prawn, never did get to see them live though. I’d love to see your take on a breakdown on Link 80 Verbal Kint. Can hear some Link 80 vibes in your earlier years 🔥
Really enjoyed this, Would like to see you do more espcially one about Capdown, or Adequate 7. First saw you guys while you were supporting Ad7 in Milton Keynes in maybe 2006 ish
So you practiced Dominant View but never played it, have RH played any other covers live? Also the way KP are bopping their heads they must be being towed, maybe they'd broken down and made use of the free tow to destination breakdown cover. I also didn't know Tim from Capdown was in the band now, good knowledge bomb. Great video Tilston, looking forward to more!
I will talk to Roger and get that information! We played party hard one NYE. And we used to play a punk version of Lorraine by bad manners in the very early years.... I'm not sure if there is more

It definitely looks like they filmed it to the track slowed down so they look like they are moving hyper fast
Why did I know I'd see you on here Suzy?! (Chris from Newcastle :))
@ haha yeah of course 😊 hiiiii
Nice one Joe. Keep.it up lad. Hope you are well. KP 4 ever!

It occured to me after making this, we actually recorded save us before Change Of Plan!

King Prawn's drummer was in Capdown?? That's a great piece of ska-core intel to know 😄

Almost definitely!
