    • @chuckengle1922

      Why do they keep the nose against the dock? The pumps are doing their jobs keeping the water so strong! I love how the fire boast can pump so much water with power!
      Saw my answer in another comment!

    • @KM-qx6nh
      @KM-qx6nh 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@chuckengle1922 I’m a novice and don’t know squat, but I would imagine that since the nozzles exert so much pressure, they would have the effect of pushing the boat back out away from their stationing. Therefore, they put the nose against the shore/dock/whatever and keep the engines pushing the boat against the barrier so that the platform stays stationary and in correct position….. but I’m truly just guessing.

    Awesome video and a great catch Nick. I was listening to the radio when this box came in as a verbal alarm by car #3 COD Leonard which is also pretty rare. It's amazing how powerful FDNY's new fire boats are compared to their predecessors from the late 20th century. (Perhaps with the exception of the original Fire Fighter) Your video proves this point very well..

      @@kbtechandmedia Look into Fifi vessels used on offshore service/standby vessels for the oil field and LNG terminals. Most anchor handling tugs and work boats are fifi1, but the more dedicated standby vessels have Fifi 2 or 3 and the requirements are immense. Fifi 2 and 3 require 3-4 monitors and have to supply 31,000 and 42,200gpm, respectively. As well as shoot about 110meters vertically to hit derricks. Simply crazy stuff. They also require 3-4 individual pumps, and like you said usually ran from 1000 hp diesels, or if using electric motors they need auxillary generators, and the emergency generator has to run at least half the pumps for DNV OSV rules

    1987 San Francisco considers getting rid of fire boats. 1989, Loma Prieta Earthquake, destroys all water mains in the Marina district and it is on fire. The Last SFFD fire boat, the Phoenix, starts to pump water out of the bay to an auxiliary hydrant system which allows the Fire Department and average citizens to save the Marina District.

What kind of a camera and lens were you using? It's one of the best I have seen for use on TH-cam. Best part was your camera was not constantly refocusing except on occasion. You have some serious camera work there. I want a camera like yours.

      I'm pretty sure that is a fuel supply. Just like firetrucks these apparatus use lots and lots of fuel.
      On big fires on land the FD calls in fuel trucks to meet the need. The same holds true for boats.

    I am wondering that despite the thousand flashlights not a single truck has a light pole and the scene is so dark. Wouldn't it make sense to have more light to see what you do instead of flashlights on the trucks everywhere?

    Hello I am a teacher from Bradford. I am creating an educational video for young people teaching them about the importance of respecting our emergency services and recognising the sacrifices that they make every day. I would love to use some of your footage if I am allowed with crediting of course. Thanks so much.
