Chief here...we paid a lot of money for that boat, and this is the first time it was ever used for fighting wildfires! It was used to fight a massive pier fire a few months ago, and saved the Liberty Ship Jeremiah O’Brian. Fire boats are not used nearly as often as a regular fire vehicle is, but when you need them, you need them. Money well spent indeed!😉👍
@@AdamEllisonC So agreed. Here in Tacoma they decommissioned one and the other, I think, is only manned for a few hours a day. I have had the privileged to see them in action 3 times. Two for wildfires and once for a steel scrape yard fire. Made the fire engines look like someone was trying to piss on the fire.
@@AdamEllisonC I'm sorry Adam! Thats my uncle. Unfortunately he was kicked in the head by a mule a few years ago and tends to comment online. Usually he sticks to Facebook but this is a good reminder to not believe everyone who comments.
Your not the chief. I am. That boat didn't cost any more than any other fire fighting boat. It was mostly paid for with federal money and it is used quite often.
Wow! That fireboat must have a massive water tank! It was endless. As you can clearly hear, it also has the capacity for a 50 piece orchestra, plus a whole opera company, as well as over 120lbs of their sheet music. Very impressive!
@@patricksterling7389 I am wrong? The music you listed I would complain about too. I would complain about rap and rage music as well, and I have. I do like a lot of classical music but the opera stuff is over board. If that is your thing, so be it. It is not mine nor a lot of other people's thing. So your opinion is I am wrong and my opinion is you are wrong. That is why I stated that music is personal. Do you not get that?
I was SO irritated by the music. Until the climactic ending when you realize this thing at full power was just beutiful. It could cover that whole mountain/ cliff and beyond with water. The music really was in sync at the end. Oddly beutiful.
I am a retired Paramedic /Firefighter from the state of Florida and in the area I worked we were an hour north of the coast so we didn't see any fire boats but I was really impressed with the fireboat but after about halfway through this video I begin to wonder how much more water they were going to spray on that Hillside. Already saw a big chunk of soil fall off the side and if that's saltwater and I assume it is all the trees and other foliage will probably die from oversaturation which will cause more of the soil to come off the side overtime from heavy rainfall. I realize originally he was trying to get behind that front wall but I saw what looked like a landline being used on the back side which was helping in that respect too. You can do two little and you can do too much and this in my opinion was way over the top. You can cause good and cause harm but when you soak a hillside in what was probably saltwater you can be rest assured it's going to kill off everything that's growing. Even though it gets salt spray it doesn't get anything like it got in this video.
nice control at times it is directed at a hot spot .. even cuts loose part of the cliff side at 14:46 !! .. and other times is used for area effect, drenching a general area and the foliage
It is not the pressure, it is the volume of water that does that. Do not quote me on this but I bet it is about 100 psi. About the same as most fire engines run.
Can we get a new, 1 year (and a few months) video of that spot. I'm curious as to the impact of the salt water (brackish being in the bay) and the ability of the soil to support plant regrowth, or killing plants/bushes that were not consumed in the fire. Great vid too btw.
You noticed that right there he's putting that out nobody has to go down there and check for hotspots no one would shovels and rakes he's done put it all out on that side

As I suspected. The Island encourages the growth of turf (peat) which needs no irrigation, so obviously tinder dry and deep. I can only presume that it is to prevent the wind carrying the soil away.. I would not be buying a home nearby.

The water pump of this fire boat is so powerful, nice…😊
i agree i love that watercannon
An impressive job by the fireboat - sometimes they're worse than useless. This one though produced a powerful jet, well aimed. Very nice.
The music gave me great joy.
Gloria a Dios por su iniciativa felicidades y un fraterno abrazo desde Yabucoa Puerto Rico.
As IC, I used their fire boat on Angel Island in 2008 !
Smart, if you have access to other resources, use them
As long as there is enough water for the draft, hard to beat the firefighting firepower of a fireboat.
WHAT A LIFE SAVER THIS SHIP WAS.... FANTASTIC JOB

best part is when the fireboat sprays a curious boat to drive it away @ 8:15
Its doing a cracking job , not going to run short of water either.
That is more like a peat fire, deep seated underground.
Reminds me of a film shot through a telescope in a house, this is the sort of music that I play in the house as well.

With that kind of pressure, they don't just extinguish the fire, they rip it off whatever it's burning...

they should put the fire boat on a trailer and take it to the mountains for fires -- it has a much stronger and endless stream than the trucks
