Love that MaryCarl she is a blessing. She definitely needs 22 pairs of shoes y'all. She is a growing girl and needs to be able to coordinate her Chicken, Pidgeon, Duck and Goose outfits with the appropriate footwear. A young Aviary Queen needs to have the right shoes for daily duties.....

Yes, and I have heard the miniature donkeys have more health problems than a standard donkey. Never had a mini myself, only small and medium standards. Also really need to have at least 2 donkeys together, as they are such a social animal and will be lonely if you have only one.

I came to say the same thing. High tunnel from growers solutions would probably be a good option. I live pretty close to to Living Traditions Homestead and we get plenty of wind here(tornado took my house 2yrs ago). Also I believe the one Roots and Refuge installed in their Arkansas farm(now Whispering Willows Farm) is from Growers too and they get lots of wind there.

I know your Southern phrases & pronunciations because my Granny was from Arkansas & my father grew up in Southern Mo. & I heard those phrases all of the time. I just love when Jason says "you'll come on now., & get you some" Granny said that when she called us to supper. My Granny was born in 1888 & lived to be almost 100. So glad you are considering a donkey . A standard or small Jenny and a foal would be a great protector . A big Jack would be hard to handle & I would be concerned about Mary Carl around a big jack. The miniatures which are so cute, frolicy & sweet would not be much of a protector. Do your research. But do look at the small to large "standards" for preditor protection.

I’m thinking it is a western thing as we tie everything together with baling wire and duct tape and I follow a lot of you out in Alabama and Oklahoma Missouri and you use zip ties to hold your things together
Example Moodys feeder would of been baling wired to the T posts so he couldn’t move it around lol

I am thrilled to death to hear you will be assisting pollination. Having beekeepers as your friends is a win/win for the future of your flower farm.

About twenty years when we were literally paycheck to paycheck I just had to have this special plant that had a different flower. It was 12.99! I got it and put bone meal in the hole and planted that special plant. The next morning I looked out and it looked different!! My small rat terrier had dug it up for the bone meal and it looked like he had planted it back, except that it was upside down. Lucky for my dog I saw it early and the plant survived but it took awhile. Then on a more sober topic, when my husband died he was cremated. I sprinkled a small bit of his ashes, without permission, at a local public landscaped area between some Azaleas. I told family if they wanted a place to walk and remember him they could go walk that park. I sprinkled a teaspoon around his parent’s grave. Then I buried the rest in the green strip of land I can see out my kitchen window, also no permission. Actually I had no idea that it was not allowed. I was not thinking real clearly. But the coyotes dug it up. I had to decide it was God allowing Bobby’s ashes to go all over that area and benefit the whole area😳

The bees will benefit your garden and your flowers and your fruits everything's got to be pollinated doesn't it I'm not a farmer I don't know but I have heard that without the bees we can't grow flowers and fruit they have to be pollinated it's exciting to watch your farm grow

Love you guys! Again another way to end a great Sunday spending time with my Smith family. Glad to see you weathered the storms. I know Peaches and Nugget had everything under control during the drastic weather (actually Peaches probably dropped butt in the back of Quonset Hut and Nugget took a dive under the school bus). But all is good. Keep Calm and Cog Hill Farm on!!!!

In California Beekeeping is a thriving industry. When we visited in Fresno, CA it was a common sight to see trailer trucks loaded with hives going down the highway transporting Bees to another farm. The beekeepers produced several different tasting Honey and it was sold at the side of the orchards. When we lived in Illinois we had three puppies and on the first day every month the puppies got their Heart Guard. In Illinois we raised goats and we had a donkey because of the dogs and Coyotes, the donkey will chase the dogs, and Coyotes. We kept him in the pasture with the goats and our puppies ignored him. I had several neighbors who walked on our road and they would bring a Apple for him.

??? If you have an area that has shade between 12-2pm early morning sun only, peony can do well in those locations. I'm in zone 7a/b and my peony's did well as long as the were in a mostly shady/filtered sun area.

Good thang I speak fluent country slang. Like, "my mama get's on to me like white on rice!" and I could go on and on with funny southern terms we use...it just is natural to speak that way, and I love it.

I was surprised that someone would ask about "A Pickin' & A Grinning" since it was part of "Hee-Haw"'s opening act. My Dad loved the show, it was a big part of my life but I forget that since 1993 there are full grown US citizens that may have never seen even a rerun. On the show someone would announce 'Pickin' and a Grinning" while Buck and Roy would play a lick, stop to tell a corny joke or pun, then resume playing until the next joke, and so on.
I say "Fixin'" too, my friends laugh when I'm preparing to do something I'll say "I'm fixin' to get ready."
I understand your reluctance to use bone meal. A friend of mine used to top dress his garden beds with horse bedding after fall harvest to let it "work in" over the fallow winter months. He had a dog that loved to roll in the stuff while it was fresh then come inside the house smelling like horse stable.
