Called our son: Bruce! Hope someday he finds out what I found in Bruce's songs. Especially this one.
1984, my wife was divorcing me. With a child of 6, I would listen to this song at night over and over again. With tears in my eyes, I would never stop loving her then or now. Only at her funeral, would I realize 32 years would not have stopped my love and feelings for her. If only we could just go back for a day, week, or even an hour. You never know how much those moments mean until they are gone forever.
Clarence Clemons, God rest your sweet soul. We're going to miss you, Big Man. Your work lives on forever. Rest in peace.....

In the early days of our relationship, my wife and I listened to this song a lot. When we first met she wasn't too much of a Springsteen fan (unlike me), but she really liked this song and grew to like more of his music. I always thought this was one of Bruce's best and very underrated songs. After 30 years of marriage to my beautiful Gail, she died suddenly in 2020. When I hear this song now, it moves me to tears in a different way because of that. This is what makes a great song: it can be heard and interpreted in different ways at different times in your life, and still move you the way it did way back when. I love you forever, Gail. And thanks for writing such a timeless song, Bruce.
This was mine and my boyfriends song as well…it was the last song we listened to before he passed away on 3/30/23…he came all the way from the West Midlands in England to “grow old with me”….we only got 6 months and 3 days together…I wouldn’t trade them for all the money in the world♥️ wishing you love and healing….death is not the end for you and your wife…she’s waiting♥️

Once upon a time, for seven years; most every poem I wrote, most every letter I wrote & some that never got sent, thoughts every day, wishes all the time, & hopes that eventually died; were all for her. Once, I did drive through the night, through the rain, & through the fog just to see her one more time. Once, I walked 200-miles & stood before her door with heart pounding, nerves cracking, knees shaking, & an arm so weak knocking on her door was a chore.
Every time I hear this song, I always think of her. Now I don't move so good no more, but . . .

Had never really listened to any Springsteen before enlisting in the Navy back in January 1980. After boot camp I was sent to Philly for further training to be a welder. One of my roommates was from
Asbury Park NJ. He turned me on to Bruce and I've been a fan ever since. My favorite artist of all time.

I gotta say, the howl on "heeeeaaaaaart and soul" (which has always been my favorite bit of the song) is more beautifully primal and raw in the studio version. That's a small complaint though, this is of course still amazing.
