- Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band at Jacksonville Civic Auditorium in Jacksonville, FL on the 4th of March 1977
From "Talk it into our hearts (EV2)" bootleg recording. Also found on "Jacksonville & My Father's Place".
The tour (first named Chicken Scratch in 1976 and then Legal Suit tour) took place while Springsteen was still in a legal suit with his manager Mike Appel about rights on musical compositions and revenues and wasn´t allowed to record a new LP after the success of Born to run. This conflict produced a row of extremly intense shows and emotional moments on stage with Springsteen leaping into furious renditions of his compositions as this version of "Backstreets" or a lengthy version of "Ít´s my life" (covering the animals)
According to the liner notes this Backstreets version "could be nominated for one of the best ever".
Especially noteworthy for the 5 minute interlude story from 06:09 about love and betrayal with the infamous "...wishing that God would send some angels to blow this town into the sea" eclipsing in a painful "you lied" cry at the end...
I haven´t found this (even after thorougly searching) on YT and thought it should be here.
A big thank you to all the Bootleggers and tapers who recorded these shows back in the days and to the people (like EV2) spending their time making these available today.

We owe such a debt to all those wonderful people who bootlegged the Boss when we couldn't hear him for the longest time.... 😊
sweet bootleg.
Love early Bruce.
As a sailor in Jax I didn't go to this show I still regret It after all this time . Same thing with Jackson Browne still think about my buddies who did go. Rob
The greatest version of this song... ever.
There is one better one. Boston 77 night 1
@@MustafaAshah-el9nc yep… it’s up there but nothing compares to the buildup and that singular explosion in Jacksonville.
The Boston version on 3/25/77 (not night 1) is 17 minutes. I think that’s the gold standard. When he starts wailing “pretty lie lie lie lies….”
Another GREAT version of one of my favorite Bruce songs!!
Thank you very much. BTW Brucebase has confirmed this show is actually from Orlando on March 6, 1977; it was mislabeled all these years.
Best thing I’ve ever heard hands down
This is a magnificent performance from a great vintage.
Oh man this version hits heavy!
Bruce is chaneling a higher power here - much higher
10th time here...honestly...does a song get better?
GD...every time I cry.
WOW!! Brilliant!!!
Vintage Bruce
Still makes me come to tears......every time.
Not sure where I stand on "You LIED!!!" vs. "Girl we've got to Stop!...Stop!...STOP!!!" from the Darkness tour. This is the best version of the former.
Thank You!
Backstreets. When a heavy bomber goes super heavy
Thanks for posting
A girl I dated gave me this version on a Bruce bootleg mixtape in ‘84. Still as brilliant but a surprised someone hasn’t fed this loop into AI and sped up the mix a tad
Very Good, but better versions on some of my 1978 boots; "Piece de Resistance" in Passaic NJ for instance.
This WAS the greatest version of "Backstreets" ever--better than the famous Boston Music Hall 3/25/77 show--until it was (slightly but significantly) eclipsed a year later by the definitive live take, Passaic, NJ, 9/19/78: th-cam.com/video/11uFGAHM9io/w-d-xo.html ...and no, Winterland '78 ain't better!
Of course, this is just my opinion, but I prefer Agora '78 to all of those. The verses are just so damn intense.
@@lzprcs1781 I would put Passaic, NJ, the Roxy in July '78 and the Agora show as the top 3
I'll take Passaic over this version - but it's a very subjective thing.
Great version but the tape speed is to slow ,sounds like a slowmo version ....
This is the way they played this song only on this tour. Slower. - ev2
