Almost 10 years on and am still telling anyone who will listen about this gig. It was such a magical afternoon, evening (and late night) in Kilkenny. Roll on Bruce coming back in Dublin next month.
There is an Italian saying that comes to mind when describing Bruce. He is "di cuore," which means "of the heart." He overwhelms me at every turn. Thanks for sharing this...
I was there for this..it was my musical highlight of a lifetime..Irelands answer to Bruce getting the good nod from Bruce himself...magic memory:) i treasure it L)
I was there too....hard to understand how a night can turn into something so meanfull for all of us standing there. All made that easy and tender by both man.God Bless them!!!
My favourite TH-cam music clip ever...any doubts about the utterly unequalled greatness of Bruce Springsteen can forever be dispelled after one watch of this
a great musician in his own right , but Glen Hansard must be feeling incredibly proud up there with Bruce . Great song , great night . Springsteen is gods gift to music
Thank you so much. Nearly 100,000,,,wow .What a special special night. Thanks for your dedication. This is one special song for me. Thanks for the memories and friendship Dan
ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PERFORMANCE !! SO BEAUTIFUL !! U can tell that Glen really has a great admiration for Bruce Springsteen. He was SO HAPPY to be performing that song on stage with him. HE ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT !! Bruce even let him add in his own style there at the end. It was an AWESOME & GREAT performance - and I LOVED IT !! : )
I taught him to play guitar a couple of years, and we played live once here in Buenos Aires. He could make his dream true, as we played "A Long Walk Home". He introduced me to Bruce's music. Of course I knew him but I never paid too much attention before I met Mike. So I really appreciate it, as Bruce is a great songwriter, sensitive and rooted in the soil of popular music poetry. Thanks again. Best wishes
The sax solo never fails to rip my heart out this has been one of my favorites since I saw the river tour in 1980 ! I am so blessed to have had Bruce in my life through the years I love you Bruce !Always will !
The Boss, Bruce, Springsteen, and the Estreet Band just racks my soul to the core. That passion! HOW can anyone sing like that for DECADES....? Put everything he has into all of his songs? Each and EVERY TIME!!??!!
I was one of the very lucky people to have witnessed this live in Kilkenny, the best duet ever performed on any stage in the world. Thanks Dan for posting this and allowing us all to re live that special night.
Mikey, right back at you - a magical time, an extraordinary weekend, and an unforgettable experience. What a way to finish the European tour! So glad you and Ward were there to share it with. This will always be 'your song', and here's to great friendships. Cheers!
Profound observation. I think it's because for Bruce the performance is not an act. He's in the moment with us; he feels it too. That's one reason why he loves to perform so much. There's a genuine connection with the audience.
This is the greatest. Other older bands sometimes can make you remember what it was like, but somehow Springsteen and the E Street Band are still able to make you FEEL what it was like, to make it feel like then and now are not two separate moments in time but rather two connected moments. And, bravo to Hansard - what a voice. More than holds his own.
So glad for Glen. So him last year twice in Amsterdam and he always spoke about his respect for Bruce. Was fortuned to see Bruce in the Netherlands in june and get to see Glen in e few weeks time @ Crossing Border. Together witch Eddie Vedder (my absolute hero) they rule. Wish i could have seen this live. Goosebumps
from 2:06 to 2:14, there is the great who lets the mic to the humble. the humble is approaching to the microphone with the respect full of emotion, and he is looking at the big, like a son to a beloved father. 3:46: here is Jake, who is playing without substituting anyone, but knowing to leave his own trace into the song. awesome. thanks for posting it...
The smile at 7mins and the really tentative way he steps up to the mic at 2:10 are two of the reasons I love him so much! What an amazing performance :)
This is when Glen must have felt like he'd died and went to heaven. The boss is the greatest singer songwriter performer of all time. I'm green with envy of anyone who had the privilege of being there and seeing this live.
Glen looks like the happiest man on the planet, he didnt look that happy picking up his Oscar. Standing toe to toe with the Boss who can blame him. Great stuff !!!
It was great to me, as only a few months before that gig, Mike asked me to teach him Bruce's songs, so I did and after a lot of practice Mike could play on a stage. Even better, among the audience were two friends of Mike from the UK.
Sorry I'm new to this lark ! Bruce, Glen, Max, Steven, Jake - all in one frame - what breathtaking talent. I was fortunate to be there and it was truly amazing. Can't thank you enough for capturing this precious gem x
This is just great. Fantastic, rarely played song, & a super job of filming. As you know, it's derived from the Backstreets, Sad Eyes-You Lied interlude. No matter who we are, how much money we have, or anything else, there's one thing we can only do once. See Bruce Springsteen for the first time. When he played Backstreets at the Fox Theater in Atlanta I became so absorbed in this that I forgot the song. After, "Stop," the pause, and "Hiding on the Backstreets.....," I was changed forever.
Masterpiece! Glen always simple, nice, honest, smiling, simple T-shirt... I don't know exactly the words to describe his simplicity... it just makes me get emotional!
Ever since Glen was announced for the WB KK weekend bill I'd been praying that he would get the chance to do that song with Bruce; That song that night was one of the greatest things I've witnessed in all the shows Bruce, Frames or otherwise) over the years!! I was so emo myself watching it that I could only film part of it;
not being a huge Bruce fan, but a massive Glen/Grames fan, i only got my tickets for this gig as Damien Dempsey Glen and the Frames were there and on the slim chance that this would happen, seen Glen do this so many times in his shows. over the moon he got to share the stage with Bruce. and as for Bruce, amazing show from start to finish! Bruce fans are the best in the world! Glens face at 7 mins in says it all.
Gotta absolutely love Glen's faces of joy, his true amusement. What must he have been thinking, performing a song, THAT song, with one of his life-time inspirations, with a true legend? I mean, I've met Glen and he's the most humble guy that ever walked on earth... I can't imagine how he must felt that night playing for 50.000 of his fellow Bruce fans. I can't be happier for Glen to have done this. I've cried tears of joy while watching, as he surely did after this happened. What a video. THANKS
Just terrific, thanks so much for posting. Stuck here in Montana, wanted terribly to be at that show. Josh Ritter, Hansard, and Bruce. One of the greatest lineups, ever. Cheers!
Fantastic video Dan! Bruce first congratulated Glen after Falling Slowly, by saying they were in the same club...Grammy winners! They are an awesome combination on this version of Drive All Night. True professionals who just LOVE music & E Street Band too! ♫♪♫♪♫
Glen, like many of us, is in the midst of the powerful life-celebration of his good friend Ezra Caldwell, who is touching the hearts of many people everywhere with his heroic battle to stay POSITIVE amongst a diagnosis of terminal cancer. To me, this performance is ALL about this kind of passion.
so there i was standing at the back of the pit when this was played crying my fucking eyes out while trying to hide the tears by putting on my sunglasses (in the dark ha). thank you bruce for all 5 gigs i went to over the past fortnight, and also a big thank you to glen hansard for providing me with this moment of sheer and utter joy i experienced on saturday night, i will never ever forget it.
Thanks Dan Was at concert and although not a big Glen Hansard fan - he pulled it off and it was the highlight of a magical evening. The quality of the video is excellent. Thanks again
What a poetic moment. Great blue collars primacy from both sides of the Atlantic. Singer/Songwriters in love with the sound and intent of each other. Kudos to the Boss for showcasing Glen. Kudos to glen for responding with complete aplomb.
Awesome! Fav Springsteen song of all time...been to lots of his concerts and have never heard Drive All Night...This one is over the top...Glen Hansard is great....the Boss stepping away from the mike...is a beauty!!! Humility....watch his expression....unbelievable!!! Jake not so bad either...uncle "Big Man" would be smiling....
Thank you for posting. I needed the visual. You see, I was in Kilkenny that night. We couldn't get tickets but were lucky enough to have them for the following night. My dream was to hear Drive All Night~ the one song I had never heard him do and one of my all-time favorites. So, since we couldn't get tickets we sat on a stone wall, in front of a very kind family's front yard, and listened to the show, with hundreds of other people out in the streets. It was perfect. A memory for life.
Momentous! Glen you did us Hansardites proud! So happy for you this night. And Dan thank you for taking the time to capture and share this so beautifully!
one of the highlights of the 2 nights in kilkenny. amazon 2 shows. you could tell it was a dream come true for glen hansard and it was a pleasure to witness it
One of my favourite Springsteen songs, always loved GH singing it, bonus when he did it with Jake Clemons, but this, with Bruce, was THE best concert moment I have ever witnessed! Absolutely Divine!!
I think I'm gonna watch Once again,Today on my DVD Buff, thanks Bruce to take that man on stage last night in Kilkenny. Good Job Glen Hansard, brilliant job singing Drive all night with the Boss
I was there that night and never in my life will I forget this moment.
Excellent- Glen looked liked it was his birthday and xmas day all in one.
Yeah he looked like he really loved it. :)
Almost 10 years on and am still telling anyone who will listen about this gig. It was such a magical afternoon, evening (and late night) in Kilkenny. Roll on Bruce coming back in Dublin next month.
Simplesmente, linda canção, grandes interpretes! Lindos!
There is an Italian saying that comes to mind when describing Bruce. He is "di cuore," which means "of the heart." He overwhelms me at every turn. Thanks for sharing this...
It's utterly fantastic being able to say I saw this live at 12, best day of me life
That was so beautiful, I just loved it.
I was there for this..it was my musical highlight of a lifetime..Irelands answer to Bruce getting the good nod from Bruce himself...magic memory:) i treasure it L)
+Wooden Ideas was there, have never forgotten the night or more so this magic few minutes of my life
Was there amazing, Glen and damo like kids at Christmas playing with the boss
I was there too....hard to understand how a night can turn into something so meanfull for all of us standing there. All made that easy and tender by both man.God Bless them!!!
Was there on the night and can’t thank Dan enough for preserving this precious memory. Brought back the sheer joy of being in the moment with music xx
I saw Bruce in 2013, amazing, so I can imagine how good it would have been to be there, such a classic song and Glen Hansard is clearly a genius.
Doesn't get much better than this in your hometown on a summer's night.... great memories.
My favourite TH-cam music clip ever...any doubts about the utterly unequalled greatness of Bruce Springsteen can forever be dispelled after one watch of this
Thanks, Johnny :-)
And Glen Hansard did us proud too!!
Whatever you do in your life...do it with the zest and passion and love that Bruce and Glen are jamming together in this...!!!
for so many reasons this is so beautiful, so many reasons

i totally agree

Lovely to know this is always out there helping to make the world better
Most of todays artists would see Glen as a threat, not Bruce, just love the way he lets him have his moment, thanks again Dan, this is so so good
What an amazing night .... just loved seeing this again. Thanks Dan
How proud does Glen look to be up there.
This song is so very, very beautiful. My eyes are not dry.
Simply amazing! Eddie Vedder and Glen also do a great version live....but this is even better :)
How should it feel to sing one of Bruce's most beautiful songs, with Bruce himself that actually sings backing vocals for you? Can't even imagine..
I was one of the very lucky people to have witnessed this live in Kilkenny, the best duet ever performed on any stage in the world. Thanks Dan for posting this and allowing us all to re live that special night.

I'd guess people come back to this clip time and time again. Uplifting.
Profound observation.

1 year ago today. Knew I was witnessing something very special at the time.
this is absolutely magic ... Hansard is soo proud.
Of course, Bruce and Glen are both on top of their games here, but don't overlook that saxophone blast by Jake Clemmons at the 3:45 mark.
Glen Hansard looks thrilled to bits!!

God that is so emotional. What a special day weekend song. Glen you did Bruce proud
the finest piece of music I've heard in a long time
Glen looks like the happiest man on the planet,

Standing toe to toe with the Boss who can blame him.

You couldn't punch that grin off Glen's face
