Easy Woodturning Projects Episode 4 / Small Wooden Bowl

Ever wondered how to make a small wooden bowl on a wood lathe? In this video I show the steps and the process it takes to make a wooden bowl yourself. We will start out with a 2x4x4 wood blank out of cherry in side grain orientation. I talk about how to mount it to the lathe using a woodworm screw. Once its mounted we first create a tenon or spigot so that when we turn it around we can eventually hollow the bowl. Next I use a series of cuts to shape the outside of the bowl. First I'll use a pull cut and then a push cut to get a real fine finish. Now it's time to flip the bowl around and hollow the wood out of the center. I explain some tips and tricks that I use to make this happen. The last thing that I show is one way to turn the wood bowl around and cut off the tenon to make a flat bottom that looks good. For the finish I used mineral oil and beeswax. This make the perfect little bowl for putting salsa in or it could be used around the house just to throw trinkets in. All in all it's a great project for beginner wood-turners to try especially if they want to expand their woodturning horizons.
