On 24 June, 2020, Pakistani aviation minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan told Parliament that 262 of Pakistan's 860 active, licensed pilots had been found to have suspicious or fake licences. They were suspected of having paid someone else to take their certification examination on their behalf. PIA subsequently grounded 150 of its 434 pilots on suspicion of having a bogus license.

As an IT Engineer, our country has had a lot of Pakistani immigrants come to our country who all seem to be IT Engineers! Anyway a new team of IT Engineers were made for a very popular world known IT business, that I also began with at the time.
Whilst helping clients in remote Desktop stuff (all the usual IT common knowledge). One of the Pakistani IT guys with a claimed Masters in IT (definitely above my qualifications) asked me: _How do I open Control Panel_ ?
'Control Panel' would have to be the most basic of basic things to know! Its like a plumber asking: How do I connect pipes together? Or: Where do I find pipes in a house?
I quickly informed him (as he was still doing Remote Desktop to his client. And then asked: What exactly are you going to do in Control Panel anyway?
He said he was going to check the User's password.
I said: You don't do that in Control Panel, we do that in Active Directory! (these thigs are like the most basic No1. thing any IT tech learns).
Over the next few days I listened on to his 'assistance' with clients.
He would actually say: Give me password now!
Whilst its true IT Engineers may require User passwords (if we don't reset them). We NEVER say: _Give me password now_ Since, that's not how assisting people speak.
My Manager was also Pakistani, and I think they made a mistake hiring me who actually knew IT stuff. As it was beyond obvious these new team members had never done an IT course in their life.
Suffice to say we lost the contract! Only myself and my team lead stayed for another 2 weeks, then we had to leave too. Since 'the team' completely messed up the entire contract!
Pakistani 'IT Engineers' continue to be the main IT people in my city. Their manner (on phone < always) still seems to be the same. Little knowledge, extremely rude, and racist against me the country of origin.

I was going through it and my level of disbelief was so obviously palapable most in the room that by the end of it 5/8 were sitting there, jaws on the floor, dead silent, as I read the finally summary of the report.
Absolutely unbelievable. There was not a single thing wrong with that aircraft. Given the level of training, standardised procedures and technology we have to mitigate the possibility of this happening made the sequence of events one of the most horrifying and tragic incestigation reports I have ever read. In conclusion: the crew were not flying the plane.
'If the holder of the licence is aware or has reasonable grounds to believe...'. The airline is setting themselves up for disaster here.
Apart from people not being inclined to admit reduced capacity for any reason, low blood sugar levels can basically render a person legally incompetent.
It can cause lower iQ-scores, irritability to the point of violence, severe depression, and complete apathy.
It's different for every person, but between these symptoms and nobody being completely unaffected by fasting, flying a plane should be exempt. Airline pilots cope with enough stress, irregular schedules and long hours even without fasting. There are exemptions to religious fasting and pilots should be included. Or fast but not fly.

@@Clipper1094 the only time i can think of where passengers started cooking fires on board a plane was during the Vietnam war when the cia run 'Air America' was flying weapons, medical supplies etc, rescuing downed pilots & moving various tribal armies around Laos & Thailand.
Once, when one plane (I think a C-123) was helping evacuate tribesmen & their livestock and they started a cooking fire in the back cargo area (but it was a cargo plane, during war, with tribesmen from the deep jungle, some who had never seen a plane before.
Unfortunately the only source is an actual book called "Air America: The Story of the CIA's Secret Airlines" by Christopher Robbins

I don't usually go in this hard on pilots, who are human beings after all, but the unforgivable behaviour of both captain and copilot for their actions and inaction respectively, boiled my blood. I take my job very seriously but when institutional corruption allows unsuitable people to hold licenses and ratings because of graft and greed, no amount of training will keep passengers and public safe from this kind of incompetence and stupidity.

I’ve worked aviation in the Middle East for close to 15 years, so I can tell you with 100% certainty that the laws of Islam absolutely allows you break your fast while traveling, and that certainly applies to flight & cabin crews. The Quran spells out that you can make up the fasting days at a later date, and the majority of Muslim flight crews do not fast on days with long flights. It’s Ramadan right now, and I see this scenario at work daily.

    • @Shaker626

The more pressing issue is that the pilots likely falsified all or most of their flight hours on the types that they were flying. It's a Pakistani cultural problem that needs to be addressed. Most Arab carriers have the same fasting pilots but don't have this problem because they don't fake their flight hours.

It’s about the act of traveling, not any specific mode of travel, in relation to the physical demands of traveling in the ancient world, ie. walking, riding an animal, a sail or oar powered boat. Once you surpassed a certain distance (translations vary, but around 50-ish miles), you are exempt from fasting in order to keep your strength up for the duration of the journey.

    • @TheOz91
      @TheOz91 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

If only if it is dangerous. Short haul pilots over in the region where I'm in, Maritime Southeast Asia (Malaysia, Indonesia, etc), Muslim pilots will fast. Even flights that are around 6 or 7 hours, they would fast.
The issue becomes if they don't have the strength to do it. For most healthy and fit people, this is not an issue because they can still operate things just fine, especially if they shift their diet slightly. The biggest thing is managing fluids since they can't consume anything until sunset, but again, not a big deal.
If one is actually competent at their jobs, then a slight loss of strength and focus due to hunger won't be such an issue.

Maybe they had slow decompression and hyp0xia or anoxia. Their thinking seemed to be less than normal. Forgot the gear, ignored warñing horn, had too much, then too little speed. Ignored overspeed warning.. how could they make all those errors? If not impaired? Hypoglycemic? CRM seemed ok. What a shame. TOGA would have helped the first time before touching down.

Pilots should NEVER be subject to strict adherence to religious practices when people's lives are at stake. Clearly they were grossly impaired and had no business even driving a car or riding a bike, let alone piloting a commercial aircraft. If they want to fast, that's their business, but bring in foreign pilots to carry the work load until the fasting is done. Duh!

    • @lawndartlele
      @lawndartlele 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

As per a reply to another comment about this - there are leeways in Islam to allow travellers not to fast, amongst other things. There's not really an excuse for their complete lack of airmanship, it's jawdropping.

saw another channel did an in-depth review of the final report and neither pilot should had been hired or flying but the captain especially. was honestly surprised that the report was very honest and blunt. the captain initially wasn't psychologically approved to be hired but then he went to his buddies in the air force and from there got sent to another psychologist who passed him. i also believed he was labelled as an overbearing man of lower intelligence so basically a bully who thought he knew better.

@cchris874 Local time. Otherwise, I'd be an hour late for everything. However, this doesn't mean that I do not recognise the usefulness of using UTC to coordinate events in time across the globe, which means that we still have a sample size of... one for your statement of "no one cares."

Yes, you are right. Useful in some cases. But practically speaking, do most viewers here get anything out of UTC? Also, there is no universal adherence to this. For example, TWA flight 800, according to the NTSB, crashed at 20:31 EDT. There is no mention of UTC anywhere in that report. And it would just add confusion to use UTC, because then you would also have to change the date from July 17 to July 18. So I am just speaking in terms of the average viewer. It helps me to be oriented to be reminded throughout that this is 2 in the afternoon. Always saying 8 in the morning keeps adding disorientation to the story. Just as if you kept presenting a map upside down. I may not be speaking for others, but my best guess is that I am.

The thing I don't quite understand is people still believing in Supreme Power when there's plain evidence of its non-existence. Maybe God is extinct, so it's for the better taking the steps needed to regain control, and not to loose effort.
He neither will be surprised, nor expecting for this loss; he's just not there. Routines are not to be taken lightly, except for the religious type.
