A customer brought in a big clump of lint from their dryer trap into a store, saying that they needed to buy a new "filter just like this one" because their dryer wasn't working as well. Not only were they not removing the lint from the trap, they thought the lump of lint was actually a part of the dryer that needed to be replaced!

Dryers don’t get hot enough to start a fire…if you clean the lint filter. If you don’t, it causes heat stacking, which is just a continuous buildup of heat until you get temperatures high enough to reach combustion.

This reminds me of when I first met my fiance. I was helping him with laundry and told him to clean the dryer filter while I put the next load in. He looked at me like I was crazy. I pulled the filter out and it was literally caked on just like the one in the video 🤦‍♀️ Yelled at him that this could have caused a fire and killed him and his roommates. They started cleaning it every time after that lmao

It was striking how even when she failed to clean something the meticulousness still showed 😂

I did costumes at a playhouse attached to a very prestigious technical college. I washed and then dried some costumes. Being an experienced adult, I knew to check the filter. There was 2" of lint. So packed down, you could have used it as a blanket. It came off the screen in one piece. Not one of those very, very smart young adults attending that college knew what it was or where it came from.
We had a short meeting about washers and dryers. And not damaging the building they were placed in.

@@C.O.G.Then they probably didn't have a mother like that OR a dryer. You're just privileged.

@@wendywhoisit1819 , "privileged"? Hardly. I grew up on a very small farm on a Tennessee mountain top. We washed clothes in a wringer washer and rinsed them in a big aluminum tub. We were only allowed to use the clothes dryer in the winter, or when it was raining. My sisters and I wore hand-me-downs given to us by the rich nieces of a very nice neighbor lady. I'm just glad that those nieces had such good taste in clothing. We got two new school outfits a year and I always chose mine to match with the clothes I already had. You think that's privileged? I call it poor.

@@wendywhoisit1819Having a dryer is not being privileged, they're cheap. A dryer is a basic appliance just like a fridge or oven and most people have them or have access to use them. Even at the laundromat. But if an adult somehow in 2024 doesn't know how to use a dryer, there's no excuse for being irresponsible and not asking someone or downloading the manual. Misuse of any machine can be dangerous or fatal.

@@RMMomma4Eva to be fair, not having a dryer is very common, or using a dryer at a laundromat.

Omg, that poor dryer. My dad wouldn’t stop reminding me as a kid to “make sure you clean out the damn lint trap when your done” every time I did my laundry.
Thank you for raising me well dad!
