Getting Top 5 in the very first race is quite good! 😀 As someone who has speedran this game for a couple of years and is currently sitting in A-Rank with around 50 1st places under my belt in F-Zero 99, there is some helpful pointers I can give: -Try to stick to one machine for a while you learn how they handle and what their capabilities are. Under normal circumstances the Fire Stingray (Pink color by default) is considered the best one. But it suffers from very slow acceleration and in F-Zero 99 it is much more difficult to maintain the high top-speed. Wild Goose (Green) is a good all-rounder choice as it has the highest durability out of all vehicles while having quite decent handling and top-speed. -If you feel your car is sliding out of control, release the accelerator button for a split second as going back on the gas straightens out the car immediatly. -Try to take Jump-pads where possible as they give you a small burst of speed. (Around 40km/h) Unless you have the Jet-Boost active, then avoid them as they actually slow you back down to the machine's top-speed instead of boost-speed. -When jumping, hold down to soften the landing. A hard impact landing actually loses you valuable speed. Holding down also makes you fly further which can be very helpful with certain short-cuts on some tracks. Obviously pushing up will make you land faster which also has its advantages here and there. -There is a somewhat advanced technique people use called 'Blast-Turning'. Basically it means tapping the accelerator very quickly while steering through a corner. It actually gives your machine slightly better turn-ability while also sacrificing little to no top-speed around sharper corners, and also is almost required for the Golden Fox (Yellow car) to counter its slippery slidey nature, and necessary for the Fire Stingray (Pink) to keep its Top-Speed. -It is really helpful to learn what corners your vehicle can take with and without the assistance of leaning (Shoulder buttons) as leaning actually reduces your Top-Speed slightly. As such you want to use it as little as possible. All in all I am having an absolute blast with F-Zero 99! I've been glued to my switch the past two days and I simply can't stop playing it! 😁
@@mattmasso6588 Pushing up on the D-Pad/Analog Stick causes your vehicle to dive down and as such reduces the time you spend in the air. It is for instance useful on White Land I if you for some reason happen to end up on one of the last Jump-Pads where the Magnetic Floors are, as with high speeds you can easily end up flying over the railing/barrier of the corner that comes right after. Just make sure to press down instead of up shortly before you land to soften the impact of the landing.

Ryu, I’m only at the beginning of your video. Not sure if you understand that what matters is not only to finish the race, but to beat your rivals at same ranking levels. If you do so, your ranking level rises and you are randomly matched with same ranked players. Your position for a finished track matters little in that sense in your initial races. At one point you’ll be matched with top ranked players, if you learn from your mistakes. True for all of us, needless to say.
Not the F-Zero game many wanted but it’s the game so many are gonna love! Skill is important but luck is a factor too. Awards those who are behind with sparks and makes it tough to stay in front with the red bomb cars. Brilliant design and such a fun game!
That race where you blew up on the line was epic! Before you were on a slither of health KO'd a dude and went to the sky route into second. That was amazing.
It was a fun of the likes I haven't been having since the 90s. They did a great job with the simplicity and using F-Zero straight from the roots. The closest we had in the past was with Snes and 64 before the idea was lost.
Ngl this might be my favorite game of the year lmao, it's so addicting.I hope they release a physical version to buy cuz I don't want this game to be delisted like Mario 35🤕
Make sure you're holding the down arrow after landing from a jump. I noticed your car slamming and bouncing after a jump which slows you down. Should try the green car too it's the best all arounder between speed and armor
also dont charge on the first lap, take advantage of the free road next to the charging area and do one boost there, it will most like get you to the frontrunners or at least in front of the pack, stay off the boost on that first lap, the pack will probably be able to reach you until the 2nd lap when you will have more than enough energy to boost.
Since you seem very knowledgeable, could you please explain the Recovery, Grip, and Durability stats the cars have? My sense is those are related but separate from the acceleration and top speed performance.
@@SunriseTheEwe Not the person you're asking, but as I understand it: - Durability is how much damage you take and I think also how much you're affected by collisions. The Wild Goose has the best durability and is stated to get pushed around less than the other machines, making it a pretty stable ride. Higher durability doesn't seem to lessen how much energy boosting consumes, however. - Recovery is how much energy you get back at the repair strip. The Golden Fox has the highest recovery, which lets it boost more often than other machines. One pass over the repair strip will likely get it back to (near-) full energy. Conversely, a low Recovery stat means that if you get pushed down to low energy, you're probably gonna be stuck at low-mid energy for the rest of the race, so be careful. - Grip determines how quickly you go into a slide while turning. Usually you have to let go of the accelerate button when taking sharp corners to not lose your grip. The Fire Stingray notably has the highest grip, letting it take even many 90-degree or sharper turns without losing much speed.
There is a counter point to the Wild Goose and Fire Stingray's low recovery stats though. They are very durable compared to the other machines.. which is why the repair pad doesn't work as fast on them.. however the boost takes a percentage of the max so they are not as energy efficient as the other two. But the trade off of having bad recovery is that they're faster once you get them going.. that's why when he got to the end of the Knight's League, he kept that lead.. there were too many turns in Silence to be booster friendly so his car's natural max speed kept in first.
This was really cool to watch! The kind of thing I have no understanding of, but enjoy watching you play anyway - like pokemon unite. Here's my comment adding my support for more Fzero99 in the future, Ryu!
20:30 all collision gives gold. Spinning protects you from damage and increases your targets damage and knock back. All damage your opponent takes is boost they can't use.
Ok, I love watching Ryu play Mario. But there is just something, I dunno, better???.... about watching him play other stuff. Not 'better' I guess but I can't think of a word that fits what I'm trying to say. It's like he has extra enthusiasm when playing new stuff like this and it comes across well in the video. It's really fun watching him play it because of that.
Ryu, tap the acceleration when you're going around turns. That's how you maintain speed and control. Also don't forget to hold down when you are landing off a jump. You lose a lot of health if you don't. Freaking loved the original - can't wait to try this!
Congrats, Ryu! This game looks really fun! I haven't played the original F-Zero in awhile, but I recall there are a lot of nuances in this game. I'm guessing you still need to use the L and R triggers to make sharper turns? The vehicle stats are as follows: Blue Falcon is just all-around average, Golden Fox is highest acceleration/lowest top speed, Wild Goose has low acceleration/good top speed, and Fire Stingray has lowest acceleration/highest top speed.
The vehicles also have different handling and resistance/heal stats. Blue Falcon has an average resistance with high healing and good handling, Golden Fox has low resistance but very high healing with low handling , Goose has very high resistance but low healing with average handling, Stingray has high resistance but very low healing with good handling
I don't know how people get such high rank so fast lol. I race fine, boost as much as possible, skyway as much as I can and I can't seem to pass 60th place haha
I've been playing it so much, it's so fun! It's the first F Zero game I've really played beside a little bit of the snes one and I'm absolutely loving the energy/boost mechanic. Seems they have some uodates planned because in the time trial list you can see two more grand prix leagues and 8 tracks that say coming soon on them, and they will probably add more cosmetics to go with them like the grand prix clear decals and time trial card backgrounds. Feels like this one has more effort put into it than Mario and Pac Man did, so I'm hoping it stays around for longer! Maybe it'll become popular with the hardcore Mario Kart players and that will give it enough of a playerbase to survive?
Also, each car as a specific turning style. The red stingray, as the heaviest and fastest car, requires the most planning. The yellow car, as the lightest and fastest accerlating car, turns like it's on ice, constantly sliding, so tilting into a turn is recommended. The blue and green car, probably has the closest to normal turn form, but even the blue tends to drift a bit.
Holding down while in the air to retain speed was a feature of the original SFC/SNES game too. I just dearly hope that F-ZERO 99 attracts enough interest, downloads, etc. to convince Nintendo to revive the F-ZERO franchise.
Each car has different stats. The Stingray has the slowest acceleration, but the fastest speed. That's why you start at the back of the pack, but finish at the top positions :D
I would love for them to add an endless mode where the last 5 or 10 people get eliminated and you have to be the last one standing 😂

This was really cool to watch! The kind of thing I have no understanding of, but enjoy watching you play anyway - like pokemon unite. Here's my comment adding my support for more Fzero99 in the future, Ryu!
When you were about to finish first but blew up right before the finish line gave me PTSD flashbacks of Mario Kart.
19:22 hahahahaha😂😂😂😂 i havent laughed that hard in a while my dude!
The red guys...☠️☠️🤣🤣
I lost my sh!t laughing 😂😂😂 when Ryu blew up at the finish line cuz of the red guys
Your spin move worked! It just bounced you to the left where you blew up the second red car right before the finish line! AMAZING! 😂❤
I have exploded right before clinching first as well and it is so hilarious
I'm SO sorry but I laughed my ass off when you exploded right at the finish line while in first place! XD Love the new content!
I believe "spinning" other players gives Skyway points
20:30 all collision gives gold. Spinning protects you from damage and increases your targets damage and knock back. All damage your opponent takes is boost they can't use.
This looked AWSOME. Such memories.
Fascinating how the graphics look like "how I remember them", instead of "how they actually looked".
It might not be the F-Zero we wished for, but heck it's extremely fun.
"If you crash they won't let you advance." 🤣
this is so fricken entertaining. More please!
Hope to see Ryu do some more of these. This was great fun to watch.
19:28 awwww man I felt that one
You can only drive in kilometers per hour? Where are my freedom units at?
I don't know how people get such high rank so fast lol. I race fine, boost as much as possible, skyway as much as I can and I can't seem to pass 60th place haha
19:26 I haven't felt something so hard in a minute 😂😂
o7 my boy Ryu
31:41 and then the exact same thing happens to someone else lolol
This is what you call a Ryu-CAR.
Holding down in the air gives you more air, and having it Deon when you land keeps speed and doesn't damage you. 😊
This is the most I've heard ryukahr swear. F-zero brings something out of him
Also, each car as a specific turning style.
"does it have staying power". Pacman 99 would like words
Each car has different stats. The Stingray has the slowest acceleration, but the fastest speed. That's why you start at the back of the pack, but finish at the top positions :D
"he pulled the ryukhar" this game is very fun to play and watch
