Alfa, BMW and Mercedes used to be the kings of sport luxury saloons. Sadly Alfa got messed up by FIAT management, same with Lancia which was the queen of rally along with Audi.
I remember, first time i know this Alfa 155 V6 from Gran Turismo 2. It's backmarker car with Lister Storm and Opel Calibra. But when i use this car, this alfa have a great acceleration and very stable handling
I can tell you guys watching and hearing this in real life is waaaay better than playing with your playstations and xboxes, just try and go watch this for yourselves there are plenty of these days with historic racecars in italy germany france belgium netherlands england
It had waaay better aero than any BMW or Mercedes, which meant it had more downforce and handled much more predictably in high speed sections, that's why you see it fly past those cars so easily. That and they're giving way to the faster car so they're also slowing down.
Exact same firing intervals (90° V with common crank pins), but no turbo to muffle either the exhaust or especially the intake. So yeah, it should sound better!
@@identiticrisis 90? Real Alfa's have 60 Deg V's by Giuseppe Busso. None of this 90 stuff which seems to have come about as a manufacturing efficiency (i.e V8s are 90 too so you can more easily reuse the same tools and line to build both). I would guess in F1 they use 90 because it would have been a "cost control" measure when dropping from the 2.4 V8 to the 1.6 V6. Easier and cheaper to remove 2 cylinders from the design that start over. Also in F1 they like the wider angles as it Lowers the CoG and they are not so concerned with poorer NVH by using a 90deg V. If you're going to make a 6 cylinder you go inline. Failing that you go V6 with 60 or 120 V angle.
I personally owned an Alfa Romeo 147GTA with the same Busso V6 in the larger 3.2p variant and that thing flies around the track and sounded absolutely superb!
Davide Cironi has a very good and comprehensive interview with one of the creators of the 155 tourung car. Yes the block is based on the PRV V6 because they needed 90° instead of 60° to get all the potential.
@@SonicSW20 based is strong word. They homologated engine from Montreal and that one from Lancia street car (and it was made by Pug/Volvo) only because angle between cylinders was what they needed from that block(the number) - but in interview was said, if I recall correctly, that Alfa Romeo/Autodelta made engine. I think even the block too, they just had to be "covered" by some engine that was selling in mass production car.
I'm watching this video at the same time as completing my 1:24 scale model of the same car, but in the 1993 livery of Alessandro Nannini. One of the truely beautiful designs of the '90's!

Me and one of my friends have been joking about engine swapping his old Fiat 500, if I had enough money to make it fit this V6 would be on the top of my list lmao
Sounds more like an F1 car than an F1 car
Alfa 155 V6 Ti. Still one of the most fascinating cars...👍🏻
One of the greatest sounding machines of all time ❤️❤️❤️
Loved those back in the day. I remember some epic races with the Mercedes. Sadly modern DTM hasn't attracted me for years now.

I used to drive it loads on time trials around the Nordschliefe in GT4, Loved it!

Lister would have been nice with the laser or Newcastle brown ale livery

Sound is so aggressive, and acceleration out of cornes is just crazy! Dislikes must be from the M3 drivers, lol! 😂

BUT SO MUCH BETTER!!
Eyy love your vids

The 155 DTM car didn't use the Busso, it's actually based on a PRV V6 (Peugeot / Renault / Volvo).
@@SonicSW20 true, although based is a big word: only the angle and some details are the ones from the prv

The PRV based engine was only introduced mid-season 1996 though.

Miss those dtm day's,so much better back then!
Epic Alfa Romeo 155!!!, orgasmic sound!!!.
una delle auto/ e dei motori più iconici del motorsport in generale. Andrebbe proposta nella lista dei patrimoni dell'umanità !
Verissimo!
Condivido, ancora oggi e da brividi vedere una macchina così straordinaria come motore e telaio.Grande alfa Romeo 155
This car, to me, is Gabriele Tarquini on two wheels at Silverstone. Heavenly.
I just checked, Tarquini won the 2nd ITC race that weekend.
The DTM Alfa 155 v6 it's my favourite racecar, soo glad that you upload this vid! Sounds amazing!
Looks good, goes really fast and sounds beautiful. No DTM car was ever that sexy in my humble opinion. Forza Alfa!
Saw this thing in the DTM Classics race at Hockenheim, it's amazing
Finally a video of the car being driven. All these other videos talk about the “amazing sound.” And never even provide an audio clip
The 1 and only dislike must be a person who is deaf. I would truly understand his frustration of not being able to hear this wonderful sound!

Closed my eyes and put my head back... Its a beautiful thing...
Legend car more than BMW:)
And i like more first version with 4 exhaust pipes, looks more raw.
Splendid Alfa Romeo sound.
