UNMUFFLED Alfa Romeo 155 V6 Ti singing around Nürburgring GP-Strecke!

- It's known that those 2.5-liter N/A V6 engines used in DTM/ITC championship by Alfa Romeo, Mercedes and Opel had an epic sound, especially the intake noise was something unmistakable. But I've always found them quite muffled on the exhaust side (maybe due to regulations, don't know). During the 2018 AvD Oldtimer GP at Nürburgring my friend MattyB727, Italiansupercarvideo and I recorded this 1996 Alfa Romeo 155 V6 Ti with a fully straight piped exhaust racing around the GP-Strecke. Listen to that V6 singing at 12,000 rpm!!

Sound is so aggressive, and acceleration out of cornes is just crazy! Dislikes must be from the M3 drivers, lol! 😂
It had waaay better aero than any BMW or Mercedes, which meant it had more downforce and handled much more predictably in high speed sections, that's why you see it fly past those cars so easily.
That and they're giving way to the faster car so they're also slowing down.

I remember, first time i know this Alfa 155 V6 from Gran Turismo 2. It's backmarker car with Lister Storm and Opel Calibra. But when i use this car, this alfa have a great acceleration and very stable handling
I used to drive it loads on time trials around the Nordschliefe in GT4, Loved it!
Was my favorite car on gt2.. Revved to the moon

I can tell you guys watching and hearing this in real life is waaaay better than playing with your playstations and xboxes, just try and go watch this for yourselves there are plenty of these days with historic racecars in italy germany france belgium netherlands england
Loved those back in the day. I remember some epic races with the Mercedes. Sadly modern DTM hasn't attracted me for years now.
Alfa, BMW and Mercedes used to be the kings of sport luxury saloons.
Sadly Alfa got messed up by FIAT management, same with Lancia which was the queen of rally along with Audi.

This is the sound that the actual f1 car must have
Exact same firing intervals (90° V with common crank pins), but no turbo to muffle either the exhaust or especially the intake. So yeah, it should sound better!

@@identiticrisis 90? Real Alfa's have 60 Deg V's by Giuseppe Busso. None of this 90 stuff which seems to have come about as a manufacturing efficiency (i.e V8s are 90 too so you can more easily reuse the same tools and line to build both). I would guess in F1 they use 90 because it would have been a "cost control" measure when dropping from the 2.4 V8 to the 1.6 V6. Easier and cheaper to remove 2 cylinders from the design that start over. Also in F1 they like the wider angles as it Lowers the CoG and they are not so concerned with poorer NVH by using a 90deg V. If you're going to make a 6 cylinder you go inline. Failing that you go V6 with 60 or 120 V angle.

I personally owned an Alfa Romeo 147GTA with the same Busso V6 in the larger 3.2p variant and that thing flies around the track and sounded absolutely superb!
The 155 DTM car didn't use the Busso, it's actually based on a PRV V6 (Peugeot / Renault / Volvo).

Davide Cironi has a very good and comprehensive interview with one of the creators of the 155 tourung car. Yes the block is based on the PRV V6 because they needed 90° instead of 60° to get all the potential.
@@SonicSW20 based is strong word. They homologated engine from Montreal and that one from Lancia street car (and it was made by Pug/Volvo) only because angle between cylinders was what they needed from that block(the number) - but in interview was said, if I recall correctly, that Alfa Romeo/Autodelta made engine. I think even the block too, they just had to be "covered" by some engine that was selling in mass production car.
The PRV based engine was only introduced mid-season 1996 though.
The 1 and only dislike must be a person who is deaf. I would truly understand his frustration of not being able to hear this wonderful sound!

Saw the exact same one live at Hockenheim DTM finals. Unbelievable sound. By far the loudest of all the classic touring cars it drove together with.

So...after researching for a while it seems to me that in the first season Alfa raced on DTM they used an engine all theirs, but then had to change to the PRV one in the following years. Is that right or did I get it wrong?
