I emigrated to Mexico four years ago and I'm very glad I did! The people are so gracious and friendly, the food is much healthier, and healthcare is much more accessible and affordable.
@goingwalkaboutnow yes, the amount to prove economic solvency has increased 20% per year for the past 3 years. It's expected to increase 12% in 2025. Many countries require much less
Things are likely to change in Mexico. There have been reports President Sheinbaum may tighten rules for US citizens wishing to relocate there, particularly if/when President Trump implements his mass deportation plan. Mexico is amenable to accepting those who get deported but they might prioritize those over US citizens so it might be harder for US citizens to get approval.
Really enjoyed your video. My husband and I have lived in Palm Springs since 2011 and I see you too lived here. We are going to Malaga in January to scout out the area; however your video has rethinking Mexico as a plan B. TY for your video channel!!
Could you do a video about struggles with language barriers that you have faced in foreign countries? Perhaps mentioning what to do about that or what you have done to manage?
Great video. I like how you break down the issues, and great idea for "Egg Meter". Puts it all in perspective. I love Spain but with my retirement income, read where they might tax me as much as 45%! I have not researched it yet, so could be other criteria that is important. I loved how you rated Mexico City as I am waiting on my passport as we speak and will explore Mexico. First trip planned for January. Actually I saw in one ranking where Mexico City is rated one of the safest cities in the world. I keep hearing good things about it. Was appalled that there are 9.2 million people there! 7th largest city in the world: I Had no idea.but luckily will be finding out. Love your channel and really helps those of us planning to leave the US.
If your retirement income is from a govt (public)pension (military, state/city/county//federal career, law enforcement, fire service, etc…), it is tax exempt in Spain.
You can compare things easily for towns/cities anywhere using Numbeo. And for groceries, go to the supermarkets in the town/area you are researching, create an account, and shop to see what your grocery basket looks like. Moving to SoFr, ruralish, May-June 2025. Also - France is not #21 - that is not the French flag. France is probably around #60. Great overview, TY!
Can you please talk more about people getting sick from the water and or ice while in Mexico we are taking our first trip there in March to Cancun and everything we see online talks about bringing charcoal tablets, Imodium and the like because we’re sure to get sick while we’re there can you please give some information about that issue? Thank you, Holly.
Thank you for the feedback. Getting sick from bad water is less a problem now than it has ever been. Just remember if you order a drink with ice, you want to ask if the ice is purificado, if not, just don’t get ice. That’s why many people just drink beer. The Mexican food can be spicy, so if you want to try salsas, just dip the tip of your finger in to taste before you slather your taco. Also, stay away from the chapulines, they are crickets, very popular in omelettes, leave those for the locals.
@@hollyw9553 I've lived in Mexico for 4 years now and the ice is perfectly fine. If you do get sick, just go to a pharmacy and ask for an intestinal antiseptic. antiséptico intestinal
If you want to get your temporary visa into MX, I would start the process now. It might take you some time just to get an appointment at your local consulate.
More power to those who expand their horizons and live in another culture. Never give up the US passport though since most, after a few years (health issues, missing out on grandchildren’s’ childhoods, oversea’s expenses, etc) return to the USA
Albania, Montenegro, or Serbia are possibilities for residence if you buy property. EU countries are not easy. Malta requires a minimum of 1 million dollar investment to get a residency permit. Spain closed down its Golden Visa program. Portugal might be less expensive but all EU countries are very difficult
@ Yes, and in most cases, it’s IMPOSSIBLE for an American to immigrate to an EU country, short of a $1,000,000 investment in Malta, and short of marrying an EU citizen.
Yes, Mexico is an up-and-coming country. What I've noticed over the last few years is that the people coming from the border are not necessarily Mexicans. They are from other countries passing through Mexico. I will need to look more into Mexico...
I like #17 on safest countries list which appears to be Malaysia. Great affordability for a country on the rise but cannot convince my wife to move to the other side of the world and that close to China. Honestly, probably the wisest move for many Americans. Take advantage of this limited golden opportunity guys. Kuala Lumpur is where it’s at.
Short answer is No, they are not running out of water. They do need to put money into a better water catchment, filtration system, they get tons of water during their rainy season, they just need to hold it somewhere that doesn’t cause evaporation.
I think these are all poor choices. Great places to visit but there are way more affordable and safe places out there with much less government hassle. I already made a couple specific comments in your earlier video. At least you didn't mention everybody's currently favorite country Portugal, which I guarantee you will be completely swamped with escaping Americans. Their bureaucratic run-around was bad BEFORE the election. (I escaped 13.5 years ago)
I would you say that these are all poor choices ,when in the beginning of the video she says 5 places that we would consider moving to. Meaning her and her Husband/Family .Her opinion is her opinion we all have opinions .Portugal is not currently everyone's favorite country .Of course there are more affordable places out there ,but she is not talking about the most affordable places in the world .
Spain has a squatters law problem. You have 48 hours to get them out or you’re looking at years. Could be a challenge to travel or have as a second home
@@YOLONOW5280 Thanks for reminding us about this. I had forgotten about this law. I see that a new anti-squatting law in Spain has passed the lower house and is headed for the Senate.
There is no way you can move to the UK. It is virtually IMPOSSIBLE for Americans. Exceptions would be marriage to a UK or Irish citizen. Possibly a temporary student visa, but just for a short while.
@@goingwalkaboutnow Well, be sure to emphasize that, unless the listener plans on marrying a Brit or citizen of Ireland, the UK is NOT an immigration option for Americans, or anyone else for that matter, since BREXIT.
@@goingwalkaboutnow If I had 10 million dollars to invest in a business in the UK with the intent on hiring 10+ British citizens, and if I earned 10 Million Dollars a year on the Investment, the UK would still most likely deny me, as an American, a residency visa. That’s just the current State of post-Brexit UK politics.
