And none of these nerfs they are doing are actually making the game more difficult or challenging, they’re just an annoyance. Super Helldive is on farm status already and they could flat remove the flamethrower and incendiary breaker from existence and that wouldn’t change the fact people are clearing 10 with ease already. All they’re doing is reducing fun for players when doing that.

Helldivers 2 succeeded in being just as, if not even more predatory than a Ubisoft game! 🤷
At least when you pay $5 for a skin pack in a Ubisoft game, you get it immediately, while in Helldivers 2 you have to pay $10 just to be ELIGIBLE TO EARN SEASONAL REWARDS! After you pay that $10, you have to grind hell and back for tons of medals just to unlock the stuff one by one, which takes EASILY over 10 hours of gameplay of doing the same repetitive missions over and over! It's one of the most predatory games I've ever played! And don't tell me the BS "you can earn super credits through the gameplay" cuz that's just bollocks! You can only earn 10-40 super credits MAX per match and you need other players to help you open doors and stuff, and one match takes 30 mins! So I have to play anywhere from 40 to 100 matches to earn 1000 credits so then I'll be able to unlock just one of dozen seasonal events! It seriously gives a whole new meaning to "predatory" and it's absolutely disgusting that people are eating this up! 🤦🤦🤦

I personally wouldn't complain much about it, but it's just a fucking mess. Weapons are always hit or miss at best due to their terrible balancing decisions, the armors are uninteresting because their perks are always the same boring ass perks... terrible all around.

It's a good point. Largely, my time in hd2 has been to jump in when I feel like playing, do several operations with randoms, and leave when it gets boring or randoms drain my faith in humanity enough. My currencies sit at their maximum limit and I stand there after we get back to the carrier and watch as the other randoms hit the upgrade terminals. I check the store only to see the same six armor sets that have been on two-day rotation for months, check my already completed bonds, and either dive back in or quit. For me, the only remaining reason I play is because the gameplay is still fun enough to draw me back every now and then, which they are eroding away every time they drop nerfs and make what I use less effective and fun. A new tenth level means nothing to me, because my friends dont play and I'm only ever on for a few operations at a time, so I tend to stray away from the higher levels because, again, I'm here for fun, which decreases every time the equipment I use loses function. So it's just like my interest is circling the drain.

By that I mean using gear that is generally considered to be bad and make a build surrounding it. Sounds tedious I know but try it out. For example I was trying to make a build for the purifier and found one after like 3 days of using it and tbh… it was pretty fun and felt rewarding when I finally figured it out! I started off on difficulties 5 and 6 to start but once I figured out the build and how to use it, I was able to breeze through helldive missions. @@hariman7727 They actually are peashooters though, with a select few exceptions. Though then people start using those exceptions and they get nerfed into the ground cus "Muh spreadsheets say uhhhh... 40% of seshionz use dis wepun!"
People want to be able to fight off enemies, especially on higher difficulties, without having to rely on stratagems alone. Which has a good reason; the higher the difficulty, the more modifiers. And most of the modifiers are meant to either make stratagems unreliable, take forever to reload/deploy, or deny their use outright. How are we supposed to "rely on stratagems" when there's a massive horde attacking us, we have the 50% increased spread, 20% longer cooldown and an ion storm all at once? How do you expect to take out 10 chargers with peashooters when all the above is happening? How are you supposed to fight off 30 devastators with nothing but a paintball gun?
Yes, I know. Devastators die instantly from a sniper headshot. I use the Diligence CS specifically to fill that role. But I cant hit all of those 30 at once to cover my team. Hell oftentimes it takes me 5-10 shots to even land a single hit on a Heavy Dev head when its moving and shooting in my direction. "Just git gud" - not everyone is a nolife deadshot who can play the game for days on end without break, and hell even on days I'm free I dont WANT to spend that much time on the game. The war wouldn't go on forever, instead ending when either Super Earth wins or gets destroyed. In this game, since the war is said to go on forever, it looses all stakes as we will never fully win or lose. Instead of the war being a game on its own its story driven which means the devs have to keep creating content for time limited events. In the 6 months this game has been out Super Earth has never been threatened. And since this is story driven, what happens when we take cyberstan? Will it get retaken or is that just the end?

      4. Medals are passively earned even if you don’t participate in major orders and you only play for medals if you want to speed up progress which isn’t slow either, you earn a fair amount per mission (you can find them too), but I do say the daily mission is not much as a bonus compared to Helldive and above

Arrowhead’s intention seems to be that *progressing the story forward* is the endgame reward. You log in, do your part to complete the major order, and “tune in next week for another exciting adventure,” as it were.
Players were able to feel like a *part* of something as they banded together to take on insurmountable odds. WE took back the Creek. WE drove out the bots. WE held the line against their second wave. And then we blew up a planet and since then the stakes have been sort of meaningless.
I think the inherent flaw with that approach is that they just didn’t have enough content prepped and ready for the pace we’d all expect. With the EoF update that flaw has become a lot more glaringly obvious, because yes, we’ve got new enemies to fight in even more ridiculous quantities, but the content does nothing to further the *plot,* it’s just filler.
And even then, once the story’s over it’s over. Remember what happened when the bots got “destroyed?” Everyone collectively realized “oh yeah, if we kill all the bots we can’t actually play half the game’s content.” As cool as the plot-driven engagement idea is, it’s just not sustainable in the long term.

If you cleared a campaign on the hardest difficulty against one of the factions, you got a cape themed around that faction. Weapons also had attachments that used samples to unlock that made them more effective or gave them a new ability like a bayonet that massively increased melee damage. There were also the faction bosses that you got to fight once you reached an enemy home world. They incentivized players to push the enemy back until they were defeated and once all 3 factions were defeated, you also got an outfit and cape to commemorate partaking in a successful victory for Super Earth. They need to focus less on nerfing and instead start reverting most of the nerfs they’ve made to favorites like the eruptor and breaker and revamp the neglected weapon classes like ARs/DMRs as well as speeding up the implementation of new stratagems cause it’s ridiculous that they can add all these new enemies and bigger objs while simultaneously nerfing and limiting our kits to fight them. The game went from an ever evolving war with adaptations happening on both sides in real time to a stale and almost lifeless grind for nothing where the enemies get harder to kill not just from their own stat increases but from the bits of power we have getting taken away from us every patch

They nerf what is effective and/or fun and call it a day. Just yesterday they said the incendiary breaker is used 30% of the time when fighting bugs so they nerf it. But it is so used because every other primary is trash against bugs! I am annoyed at the nerfs, but not because of the nerfs themselves. I don't mind that much that the flamethrower doesn't kill chargers super easily anymore or that I have 2 mags less in the breaker incendiary. What makes me beyond frustrated is what those two nerfs indicate while nothing was buffed or re-worked, despite how much the community has said that the primary weapons in particular are not satisfying or fun to use.
For me, I have been hoping for Assault Rifles (the Liberator "line" of rifles in the game) would get a bigger magazine size, as it doesn't make much sense that these special forces go take on huge hordes of alien bugs and robots with 30 bullet mags on their rifles when we easily have 60 bullet mags in reality.
Functionally it means that you reload your weapon after every single kill of a medium sized enemy or a handful of the small ones. Unless you put it on semi-auto and tapfire shooting it one bullet at a time.. Then you might be able to dispatch more with careful shots, but then it's not really an assault rifle feeling vibe either.
Picking a Primary weapon should be fun, like a kid in a candystore wanting to try different things to have fun with, but instead I'm browsing through em trying to pick the least bad option, while if I want a genuinely good and reliable weapon, I gotta look to getting the Machine Gun or Stalwart as a strategem. Which I have been doing for 180 hours now since release.
Meanwhile, the amount of enemies and threats just keep compounding and the chaos gets crazier, while we have barely anything new or barely anything genuinely fun and reliable to see us through that chaos. Every weapon seems to just NEED some inconvenience and struggle along with it, be it constantly having to reload, slow reloads or just really slow handling. Sure, they gotta be balanced to not be too great, but they're not even good, even if - yes - they are usable and "viable" if you grit your teeth and just struggle through.
I just don't think the challenge should come from reloading every 3 seconds or constantly fighting your own gear.
What I wouldn't do to be a Colonial Marine dropped to fight some bugs, as they get pulse rifles with 99 bullet mags and great performance. Even then, there'd be plenty of chaos as a challenge.
If todays warbond comes with nothing satisfying, I'm genuinely calling it here. I did get my money's worth. But it will be a damn shame as I think this game could easily be so much fun and satisfying to play that I'd gladly pop in just for the fun of it with no rewards for years to come, if it wasn't just constant frustration from ragdolls, acid slowdowns, random flora explosions, new monster playing me like a drum with it's appendixes, poor visibility all the time etc.

Like yeah you can make your current stratagems more effective but at the same time there’s no super high tier stratagems or stratagem upgrades at higher level. In my 50 hours I did 40 hours again bugs only and only being able to beat lvl 7-8 at best, and have problem with bots at lvl 6, so I think for mastering level 9 at bugs and bots it would take me another 40+ hours easily, and even after all that hours it was still very funny.
Until they nerfed the railgun until it was unusable, but ok I tried the other weapon and start to have fun again , but they dont stopped there…
As now I find the game very very boring a frustrating, there are no weapon that I found funny to use, and even if I learn a new lodaout and buy the new “pass” with the new weapons those will be nerfed soon ( and most of the weapons come to the game that already sucks )

Devs are simply obsessed with cucking the player base and trying to make players not be overpowered in lower difficulties (in turn making them woefully underpowered in higher difficulties).
Every update more stuff gets gutted, compensation buffs are sparse and very toned down, and either enemies get buffed or the rules that apply to us (obstacles block flamethrower, significant cooldowns for stratagems, limited respawns) don't apply to them (hulk flamethrowers hitting you through blatant terrain, you kill a bot or bug trying to to summon reinforcements and then another bug or bot besides them will immediately stop whatever they're doing to summon, until you are forced to reload and cannot stop them any longer, infinitely stacking waves of enemies if you can't clear them fast enough, etc).
This update added even more powerful units for bots and bugs, but did almost nothing to give players more power to make up for the enemy powercreep. Every update you're just playing with weaker and weaker weapons and stratagems while the enemy gets more and better elites spawning in ever higher amounts and covering ever more different ways of disrupting and killing you.

The game is full of bugs that make playing it a literal chore. This ranges from poor physics, hitboxes, collision, lighting issues, etc and we even had loads of missing textures about a month back. There's more with every update.
The game's performance on PC gets worse with every update. My 3080 keeps having to work harder and harder to run this game, to the point that I have gone from rendering the game native, all the way down to performance scaling, it's gotten that bad.
The game has no end game progression other than the super sample grind which is tedious as hell.

    I disagree.
I was playing for a good while after release, a couple of months past when Rata initially stopped playing. I had everything unlocked and I was playing enough that anything new that unlocked I could gain access to basically instantly.
I never once found myself lamenting the lack of end game progression. I don't need a wheel with cheese that is permanently just out of reach.
The game is fun on its own merits. The thing that sucks. The thing that builds up over time and makes people want to stop playing. Is that the game is in a never ceasing beta test state.
There's never any sense of consistency. You never know when something that has worked a certain way for a long time wasn't "working as intended" and will be altered. You never know how badly a new patch is going to break the game. You never know when, if ever, problems will be resolved.
If it didn't feel like the devs were flailing, I'd probably still be playing. But ultimately what I discovered is that a handful of strats that the game launched with were basically the golden children and never got severely altered and as a result were functionally the best things to bring to most missions and then the game got stale. What would keep me playing is variety. And not of the kind they currently offer where everything but that handful of strats is an objective downgrade.
The problem isn't that the game lacks a predatory time sink mechanic like other live services. It's that the devs have no idea what they're doing and keep breaking the game and leaving stuff broken for months on end without even acknowledging some of the things they've broken.
Like, just ask yourself, if the rockets on the Patriot were functioning as you'd expect them to, would you find yourself annoyed at the lack of progression? Would you even be thinking about it? Or would you be out there blowing up Bile Titans with a twinkle in your eye and not even worrying about useless currency/time sinks?

Yeah, progression systems aren't really needed, but resource caps this low aren't either. If they let me, in theory, collect 99 billion super samples, I'd never stop trying to collect them to see how many I could get over time. It's not the lack of a proper progression system: it's the fact they won't even recognize a player's dedication with simple numbers, except grey and sometimes inaccurate career stats. I don't want to care about total kills more than objective completion! Why can I endlessly tick up the kill counter, but not the medal count? To force people who actually play the game more to grind every time a warbond comes out? If somebody plays enough to hit max medals after buying everything, then they like the game enough to keep playing with new content. People like me don't *need* the grind as incentive.
Arrowhead doesn't understand players, and they don't want to. It's their stated philosophy to take our feedback, not believe us, figure out why they think we REALLY feel that way, and then fix that problem they made up by deliberately not listening to us.

I agree that the main issue in player loss is endgame content. For reference I have over 2,000 hours in Deep Rock Galactic, and the main reason I still play HD2 is because I'm used to the repetitive nature of horde based movement shooters - so I think I'm an anomaly. Even in DRG we have our own complaints about endgame, but now that we have HD2 for reference, myself and a large amount of veteran players in the community are becoming increasingly more grateful for what we've been given by Ghostship Games.
Arrowhead actually managed to do something pretty incredible on release. They captured the largest amount of Warzone, Apex, Fortnite, and CS players in a way that no other horde shooter has ever been able to do so before. That should be noted more. THAT should be celebrated more. I think a lot of the frustration of HD2 players stems from this, because the live service game upon release actually felt like a live service game. You were fighting bugs/bots under a common goal, and you knew a STRONG percentage of the FPS/shooter community (400k+ concurrent ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!), was doing the exact same thing. It was so big that it bled into IRL for a lot of players. Co-workers were talking about it - people felt a part of something. It felt incredible.
I view DRG as the gold standard in this genre, who's one weakness was they never managed to break into the "multiplayer" scene. The best they could do was a small Discord-based clan system, which most players didn't even know existed. For Arrowhead - if the clan system rumors are true, it may be one of the last saving graces for HD2. Yes, we need to kill the nerf culture (for reference I main Quasar, LAS GD, Incendiary Breaker, & grenade pistol - ALL of which have now received Cro-Magnon nerfs in the last 6 months), but if Arrowhead understood how crazy it is in the first place that they captured so many unlikely folks into a game that was never intended for them, maybe they would realize that HD2 could become something exponentially greater than Deep Rock Galactic ever could. To see the potential of that slip through the cracks this year has been entirely saddening. If I ever had a voice in this community I'd tell Arrowhead that "Ghosting" Ghostship Games with all but a silly Twitter post was probably one of their biggest fumbles ever.

Yeah this is pretty accurate. I enjoyed the game, and once i unlocked everything, i just kind of stopped playing. When new content came out, I'd already have it done within the day. And most of the new content was ultimately unimpactful. They constantly nerf weapons, and it doesn't feel good. I used to love using the arc thrower against bots, because it could stagger the hulks. They then nerfed the stopping power of the arc thrower, so now they no longer get staggered. This is something they keep doing to weapons over and over. The moment people find a new strategy, it gets nerfed because it's "not what the developers intended". They keep saying that people should just use stratagems, but that's simply not viable on higher levels, when most stratagems have a cooldown of 60-80 seconds, and you need one constantly to deal with all the big enemies.
The equipment system seems pretty barebones, in retrospect, and I think they should definitely have implemented some sort of upgrade system for individual weapons. Even if any given weapon isn't great, you can *make* it a great weapon. This would have been the perfect system for an endgame loop. The could also have implemented some sort of "weekly challenge" type mission, where there's some crazy caviat to the mission.

  • @clancykohl
    @clancykohl หลายเดือนก่อน +4

My frustration with the nerfs comes mainly from their reasoning, like no nerf really broke any of the affected weapons for me. But their reasoning is just trash, like, "this weapon is used to much, but we want people to use different weapons, so we make it weaker" but I wasn't using that weapon because it was incredibly strong in the first place, but because it did well at best. And I didn't use the other weapons because there was something better, but because they were trash in themselves. So after any such nerf, I may try something different, come to the conclusion it's still trash, and just keep using what I was using to begin with, with an inferior experience, dreading the day the devs look at their spreadsheets again, determining the weapon is still "to popular" and finally breaking it for good.
Like I didn't play the game in the days of the Rail Gun, but when I later tried it, it was basically useless. It was serviceable when you disabled the safety, at the risk of blowing yourself up, it was just not worth it. And the fact that nobody seems to be using it anymore doesn't tell a tale of balance, if it was, at least some people out there would fancy using it.
I think, instead of just looking at what guns are to popular and nerfing those, they also should look at what guns aren't used and buff those, and people will naturally shift to those, and if it's only for the sake of trying something new. Or having a different experience. Like there is nothing wrong, with nerfing strong stuff in itself. But when nerfing is all you do, you eventually end up with a junk arsenal. Taking all the fun away. It's supposedly a shooter, so shooting is the core of the game, if that isn't fun, the game has a serious problem.

Not all their changes are bad but enough are. All the while yeah most of the arsenal is just junk. DMRs for example are basically dead dev time. Loads of stratagems have no place in any loadout. Imagine demolition or specialist that can carry an extra stratagem or carry a second support weapon but only have one backpack so you can’t just have an auto canon and recoilless. Would that solve the repetitiveness of Helldivers? No but I believe it would be a step towards making it more fun

"Recently I've gotten back into playing HD2" and that was your mistake... The game was fun by mistake, then they patched it to be as intended.

No it’s still very fun. You just sound whiny and annoying.

It's also worth pointing out how complex the game is, the balistics, armor, weak points, etc. are making it more difficult to both drop more content and balance weapons because they have too much to consider. I think the game will continue to die no matter what because if they're struggling to put out content now, adding new end game mechanics will completely destroy their ablity to make changes to the game without screwing up.

tbf, most of those parameters exist so that the devs can have a plethora of options that function differently by having different strengths and feel unique in different ways. but the fact they wanted to make it so much like Warhammer made it too one sided for what people want to bring using the armor rating system. it leads to the same mentality when build planning of, i need to have something for these enemies or I'm walled so nothing else really matters cause i can kill lesser things with the same weapon. the new content is mostly suffering from lack of testing, bugs are inevitable and only time will iron them out ontop of the engine being very old so many bugs can spontaneously pop up without any notice but they are trying to live service content so they add up

No, the game is not that complex. And no, the "ballistics, armour, and weak points" are not in any way specific or unique to this game.
the original UT had all those things. Quake 1 had all those things. Duke Nukem 3d had all those things.
The game is just a 3rd person hoard shooter. It's basic as fuck.

lotta hot takes in the comments. But let's get real:
    - constant tweaking of weapons ruins peoples fave builds. why cant ppl have fun ? what's the obsession with balance ? balance is, frankly, boring as shit.
    - the "gamepasses" suck dick. there's rarely anything in them worthwhile.
    - when do we get to see the illuminati ? when do we get to defend super earth ? why isn't there a PVP mode, or just even PVP events or missions ? The SAME FUCKING MISSION OVER AND OVER AGAIN is boring.

When they announced meganests for both automatons and terminids, I was elated, but then when I got my friends together to get to super helldive to find them (who would've guessed that since there's utterly no difference between the 9, 8, 7 difficulties except they get harder with small amounts of more SAMPLES, we never did helldive so we needed to do that before super helldive) all that we found were extremely hard bases with a small reward of the same SAMPLES that you can't even redeem until you've FINISHED the mission.
To say the least, it would've been *actually* cool if for example you could further the comoletion of a planet by a substantial amount if you collected the reward, or more lore. And the thing is, there's an upgrade tree for your super destroyer, why tf is there not an upgrade tree for EACH weapon / your helldiver? ARMOR AS WELL. Armor is so pointless in this game because even though they toned down the crits that enemies do, it just feels bad when you are *forced* to use ONLY heavy armor in higher level missions.

I’m glad that you made this. I could never put my finger on why I quickly got burnt out from Helldivers. I usually rotate playing mostly one game for a month or a little less, but my Helldiver “phases” last under a week
