    Good video. Nice kid. When it comes to backpacking gear, it’s all about advantages and disadvantages and convenience. Are use the sorrier squeeze water filter with the add-ons I made for it and for cooking are use The esbit solid fuel system. I made a windscreen enclosure with a tin can for Aide that works wonders for me. Everything I use is to my convenience as a blind person. Do you ever use the canister stoves at all? Thank you so much for sharing your video. God bless you.

  • @TainoXtreme

    Very good video. Excellent presentation. I use two and two bottle Blatter’s because they are 16 ounces each and ultralight. I hang them to my backpack and are easy to detach and many others advantages. Are you agree with you about the saw your Mimi. I went back to the regular size saw your squeeze filter. I use the S bit solid fuel tablets because of many advantages. Specially because I am blind and cannot afford spills with Lakewood feels. If I was to go back to canister stove’s, I would prefer the bipod I think, from Snow pig. I am not sure the manufacturer at this point. It is an awesome stove because of its stability and four points of support for the pot. Check it out. I think you would like it. It is not the latest various out there but it is very practical, convenient and has too many advantages to it. Good job. God bless you.

    I can see why you dont want to mess with camp shoes but if you are standing on that sit pad in the shower I hope you are bringing something to sanitize it. That sitpad is going to catch all that dirty water that you are showering off and the bottom will pickup that nastiness you are trying to avoid. A pair of flipflops from walmart or a dollar store could easily just be clipped to the outside of a pack.

    The Micro is the same as the s.s regular but just better flow and less weight, definitely worth the buy for a thru-hike, I own both and switched over to the micro for edc.

    • @FrozensAdventures
      @FrozensAdventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I read an early review from someone that brought both on the AZT. He would switch filters at balanced times, after the thru (800 miles) the micro was significantly slower than the squeeze. I'm, still waiting for long term reviews to come out but I'm kinda getting tired of waiting for a real review so I may switch and do it myself. We'll see!

    Excellent idea with lens container! But, are you sure that’s safe to pre-mix Aquamira drops? I have some doubts, as Aquamira could do it themselves if it would create the same effective water treatment mixture. Probably liquids A and B react between them and that chemical is not good or not stable and dissipate.

    • @FrozensAdventures

      Premixing will be safe up to 24 hours. I don't plan on going longer than 6 hours.

    Couple little tricks i used on the AT a couple years back th-cam.com/video/a8p6pkUYxHo/w-d-xo.html . Really liked the cut down sawer water bag for speeding up getting water and as a scoop. I think I only used a scoop maybe 4 times on the whole trail for water but used it to speed up water... a lot. I can see you getting rid of the aquamira pretty quick but as your starting early i can understand you taking it. It can be good to lose weight as you go so don't sweat it, take it and lose it when u decide u don't want it anymore. Once it warms up etc. Likewise for the 2x gas canisters. I only used gas for dinner typically so it would last 10+ days or something? if your cooking a lot especially early on when cold you may well go through more. The only time i saw people carry 2 on the trail was if they grabbed a couple out of a hiker box. But again your leaving early. cold... It's a pretty short hike to the first resupply too. The other tip for cold is, have gloves! it's miserable hiking when it's freezing when your hands hurt and if it's real cold hand warmers are awesome to put in your socks for sleeping. I would only recommend this typically if one is expecting a colder period and can plan for it. Don't just carry them for the sake of it. Good luck out there.

    Since you have shown the BRS stove and I'm sure you have watched Dixie's stove efficiency video, have you weighed a fuel canister before&after a boil to see how much gas your setup typically uses? Also, I've had canisters slowly leak without a sound after first use and found them emptied. For me, a 110 g of fuel will last about 13 boils of 2+ cups of water or 6.5 days.

    • @FrozensAdventures
      @FrozensAdventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is good info. I've watched all.of Dixie's and Darwin's videos. Good to know about # of boils.

  • @jimpflugrath6220

    My MSR fuel canister have written on them that they weight 101 grams empty and I find them to be within a gram or two of that. You have shown 94 g, so I wonder if your scale is helping to make your base weight lighter by 7% or so. :)

    • @FrozensAdventures
      @FrozensAdventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Find an empty 110g cannister and put it on a food scale. You'll find that it will range from 95g-100g. It's weird but I'll take it! I have 2 scaled i've used over the past few years and both come out to within a gram of each other.

      I don't like the stories I've heard about the filter clogging easily. Way better flow rate, but I'm just not sold on cleaning the filter by swishing it around in some water.

    I suggest buying the blue Sawyer cap to connect the dirty bag / Sawyer to the Smart Water Bottle. It makes squeezing so much easier on the trail, especially when the bottle slips from between your legs/feet. Also allows the possibility to gravity system when you want to do a second task when filtering. I didn’t take any other form of water purification and never needed it. Sawyer squeeze by far was utilized by most hikers. I ended up using both the Evernew and CNOK on the AT and I preferred the CNOK but you have a good plan to decide. The two canister system is a personal choice. I carried two because I would burn the can to fully empty; which was always in the middle of heating dinner or coffee and always in the middle of a 3-6 day section! I didn’t have to bother/borrow from someone else or go without for two days to town. Once I switched canisters, I would sometimes wait till second resupply stop to grab a new can, sometimes I didn’t. I never had an issue finding canisters on the AT. Many say that other than heet at gas stations, canisters are more common than denature alcohol on the trail now days. So exited for you. Don’t overthink it all, just enjoy!

    • @FrozensAdventures
      @FrozensAdventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Does that allow air through so the bottles don't collapse? If so I'll drop the evernew bag.

    • @gboltonatrail1099
      @gboltonatrail1099 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Outdoor Adventures I don’t believe it does. Much better than the tornado tube I used, but occasionally the smart water bottle would have to be “burped”. It had nothing to really do with the dirty water bag. With adjustment, you could get the blue connected loose enough to flow without issue, but it took a little practice and then re adjustment. In the over all scheme of the thru hike, not a big issue and an easy learning curve.

    • @jimpflugrath6220
      @jimpflugrath6220 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like the blue coupler as well. It weighs 5.2 g. One does have to loosen it if one wants air to escape. For instance, if you gravity feed a Smart plastic bottle with an airtight seal, the flow will slow to a stop when the back air pressure builds up, so you want the coupler loose by a half turn. Think of a soda bottle and letting the gas out when you first twist the cap off. I start with airtight and water tight seal so that no dirty water gets into clean water receptacle, then a slight twist after gravity starts doing its job to let air escape while receiving bottle fills.

    Two quick things . After reading some glowing reviews on the CNOC bag I tried one for the first X this summer in Colorado . It failed the very first X I used it . Leaked from the cap and the bag itself . Hope it works better for you . Also , have you seen the adapters that SAWYER now makes to put on between your water bottle and filter ? You can then use your BOTTLE to backflush your filter and not carry that Big Assed syringe !!! Oh yeah , since we got back from Colorado I have seen some mixed reviews of the CNOC's . Seems like Tim W had problems with one also ?! ATB , jwtylyk about these things .G

      Meh. I'll see how it goes. Definitely starting with 2 and as each cannisters runs dry buy another in town. That may change as I get more comfortable. I'm used to measuring out 3 oz a day of denatured alcohol for my fancee feast stove. But shit can happen with cannisters. I personally had one with a slow leak and ended up eating cold food for a day which I hated.

      It’s weight. One canister will last you well over a week while boiling for all meals. You’ll basically walk by a store to resupply every 4 days or so. It will just get annoying to have half a pound of dead weight in the bottom of your pack for a week at a time. Carry two, shed the extra when you get into your routine.
