I came across a video 2 days ago where the host had introduced you, and some new ways of making actually delicious meals for backpacking. Thanks for sharing your recipes and experience!!! YUM! Here’s my add to method #2 for raw eggs in a bottle… In another video from a couple years back, the video creator showed how they made insulated pouches from Reflectix to carry cold food for a couple/few days. I made my own, and to store the eggs, I cracked eggs through a kitchen funnel into a reusable baby food pouch that fit 3 eggs. When I packed everything up, I put an 8oz bottle of ice into the insulated pouch. Tossed in perishable items like eggs & cheese. We left early morning and camped for the night. The next morning, I opened the pouch and found ice still in the bottle and eggs were safely cold. Other items in my pack also aided in insulating the pouch. I cut up baby potatoes, summer sausage, cooked those, added eggs, then cheese. Made for a great start to day 2.
I've used a funnel to get eggs in a coke bottle. Added spices and cheese, then froze it, then wrapped the bottle in a small towel. I took it on a 3 day hike. I planned on having them for breakfast on the first morning, but i checked them when I made it to camp, and they were completely thawed. So, I had them for dinner that night, cooked over the campfire. They were amazing. 😁
Great, thanks! Just to add to option 2: it helps a lot to get a good mix if you add two or three steel balls (e.g. from ball bearings), and shake the bottle before use (spray paint bottle hack). But before you go out try at home (with some water in the bottle), whether your bottle can bear it ... ;-) That hack is also recommended if you want to carry or to prepare at the camp site a thin dough / batter, like something for crepes or pancakes or cup cakes, or egg-less food items like dosa etc. - I prefer the bottle method over stirring in the canteen cup or using a plastic bag for preparing the mix.
One great hacks my Dad showed me for my first scouting camp out was to take a large soup can and add uncooked oatmeal, then add as many eggs as possible and fill to the top with more oatmeal. It was great having that for breakfast over the absolutely terrible dehydrated eggs back in the "mid evil" days of camping foods..
I just recently learned that you can freeze eggs (out of the shell), put them in a juice bottle, freeze them and put them in a wool sock to keep them cold, your mileage may vary depending on the temperature. You can also use powdered milk and eggs with a splash of vanilla and water for making French toast, use jam or syrup, the choice is yours and the cleanup is worth it. Bread can be kept safe in your cook pot.
Hi Chef Corso. Here I am a new subscriber after I was watching Dan Becker that he share about your cooking expertise in his video. So glad you’re doing those videos for us viewers that freaking awesome because I know that I will learn something from each of those but also will make my days happier by bringing real cooking recipes on my journey. Like over hard and boiled hard eggs. Put small eggs in Coghlan’s egg holder and if I know it will have a lake, river or creek by camp site. I attach a rope and submerge the Coghlan’s in colder water so the idea is to keep those in lower temperatures while not hiking and the yellow plastic protects them from wildlife to eat them. Thanks and bon appétit.
If I'm at a restaurant and want eggs, or if I'm doing eggs at home, I want sunnyside. For my camping/backpacking/overlanding trips, I mainly use powdered. For years I have powdered my own and vacuum seal in mylar zip packs of various sizes
Pickled hardboiled and or soy sauce eggs, I buy 6 hardboiled eggs and use 2 freezer bags put 2 hb eggs with soysauce and ginger in one, then the other 4 in the other bag with a pickle pack or vinegar cut up hotdogs or summer sausage, and/ or spices, they go in my Nalgene bottle after washing it out from the Bloody mary that had some of the pickles and summer sausage, they make a nice snack and at supper I have soy eggs for my elivated Ramah supper and easy 3 meals. A bloody mary with pickles, cheese stick, sausage, celery. A smashed pickled egg wrap with pickles, and sausage. And a chicken packet, soy sauce (from the eggs) celery, green onion Ramah, with soy eggs. I'm been working on this one.
In Europe we are lucky. Eggs are not allowed to be washed. That makes it easier to take them with me without cooling. Pickled eggs are also a nice option. They last long and the pickle juice can be used as condiment to prevent waste.
I really like your videos. I have started dehydrating dinner leftovers and throwing them in the freezer so i dont really have a lot of extra prep. The beef stroganoff last week worked well enough and tasted great. Eggs sunny side up are my Jam. I dont like it when the whites are not cooled fully but with a good sunny you get a hard medium and soft yolk all in one egg.
i use the powdered eggs to make a trail carbonara with the precooked bacon. works really well to cook the pasta then add the powdered egg and parmisean or pecorino romano and teh precooked bacon
I have lived outside for about five years. I never refrigerate eggs from the store, even in the summer time. Grocery store eggs will keep for weeks unrefrigerated. Unwashed eggs will last for months.
Here is how to cook powdered eggs in a canteen cup. Bring water to a boil in canteen cup. In a separate container mix up the egg mixture. Pour the eggs slowly into boiled water, then spoon out the eggs or add Ramen to the boiling water and have both. You can cook scrambled eggs using this boiling water method. Also, they make foam microphone dust covers that an egg will fit into.
Thank you for all the cooking inspiration. I am just getting myself back out there and my goal is to cook some fab nosh when I am camping. Here was a recent ramen adventure. I got the beef jerky idea from you! th-cam.com/video/PKiASkVH00I/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ATTgObHGa2xfPhNj

Making people smile is great, a Good way to do that is with good eats!

There ya go!
Eggs at a diner--over easy, and then at the table I cit them up and mix the liquid yolk in with my hashbrowns. Yum!

indeed. i like that better

Coghlan’s makes plastic egg holders - 2, 6, and 12 egg sizes.
Use smaller eggs, unless they’ve made them bigger, jumbo eggs break when you close the lid.
I guess brand makes a big difference in the taste of powdered eggs because OvaEasy eggs taste like fresh eggs when scrambled.
I like that shirt. Plan to take some uncracked eggs on my next backpacking trip. thanks for the sock tip!

That’s a great one!
Great ideas!

The first time I was in Mexico at a grocery store and saw all the eggs sitting out unrefrigerated in 90 degrees heat, it freaked me out🤣

By "car camping" do you mean keeping them in a cooler of some sort? Thank you for these videos?
Yes
