21:52 I've been to the gold mines in Migori and even documented it on another platform. The mining process there involves a lot of women and they do it by hand... mixing the gold slurry with mercury by hand, and heating the gold-mercury amalgam in open air to extract the gold. So they breath in the fumes. Mercury is harmful to health and a huge percentage of the women around there have higher than allowed levels of mercury in their blood. Which creates a risk of children being born with neurological defects.

There are better ways to get gold without using mercury, some use borax, there are plenty of safer methods to use, because that same mercury will contaminate our rivers and water tables

Wow Lynn and Prof. I am currently doing research on artisanal mining in Kenya for my thesis. From the brief comparisons I have done, it seems that data on our minerals is intentionally hidden. Kenya is sooo rich in precious rocks and gemstones, industrial minerals and energy sources but they are hidden intentionally so that foreign countries and our greedy politicians benefit. It's such a sad state. Kenya is super super rich. And I am happy these conversations are now coming up.

As a Zimbabwean you ought to know better. What happened to Mugabe and Zimbabwe when he tried to take back the land? The UK and her allies collaborated and IMPOSED ILLEGAL ECONOMIC SANCTIONS, they CANCELLED ALL PRE-APPROVED LOANS from the international markets, they began to sponsor a POLITICAL PARTY (the MDC) and unleashed a well coordinated PROOAGANDA CAMPAIGN against Mugabe labelling him inept and corrupt. They claimed he was perpetuating human rights abuse on the people of Zimbabwe. Some of you stood with him, some of you besmirched his name. I'm saying all this to say, the West play a huge role in the way things are. It's all good to call for Ruto's removal, but fact is, if we bring in a leader with Sankara's mentality, vision and drive, he will be OUSTED or KILLED by the West. If we bring in a Mugabe looking to take back our resources, the country will be ostracized from the international economic system. Facts.
I'm left to wonder when I see a Zimbabwean citing CORRUPT as the biggest problem. Corruption is indeed a problem, but the WEST (Govts and Corporations) play an even bigger role in impeding our development.

Concerning gold, look at what the BRICS is doing in strengthening their new currency system. That's the first step we should take in strengthening our currency, since we cling so much into it

The greatest raw material, resource or mineral is people. But even more important is virtuous honest people. It is this processed polished human resource that we lack in Kenya. Knowledge in the hands of schooled but dishonest individuals makes them even more exploitative.

Helo team LNN: I pray to God that one of these days the good Lord will give us a president like Ibrahim Traore of Burkina be who will take CHARGE of our mineral wealth and lead in exploiting it from the front. Then, our country will experience cashflow in a way we've never done before. Our children will cease being exploited in the Middle East and elsewhere.

It is true that Kenya like so many countries has abundant economic minerals. The reason why we are not taking advantage of this is because of political stability pure and simple. It costs significant amounts of money and research An average mine takes about 10 years from exploration to launch. As always Kenyans giving simple solutions to complex issues.

Not only that. People seem unaware of the fact that the West stays running interference, saddling us with their hand picked puppets to do their bidding and ousting or eliminating our best and brightest. Nkrumah Modibo Keita (Mali) Olimpios Silvanos (Togo), Milton Obote were ousted. ASSASSINATED; Lumumba, Cabral, Silvanos, Boumadienne, Sankara Machel Gaddhafi, Magufuli, Kabila Snr, Pio Gama Pinto, Tom Mboya, Biko, Hani
PUPPETS: Mobutu Sese Seko, Blaise Campaore, Omar Bongo and his son Ali Bongo, Kenyatta, Uhuru, Ruto, Kibaki, Mandela
Africa losses about 88 BILLION every year through multi nationals who take out money through tax evasion, tax avoidance, dodgy accounting (manipulating profits) etc
We will never enjoy the benefit of those minerals as long as the West has their boot on our neck, directly or indirectly.

Great interview per usual. Not just Kenya, the entire African continent is rich with minerals. The Western powers like it this way though. The west would collapse should Africa get their ish together, but they also know chances of that happening are slim to none.
