Bobby Darin fans might not know the following facts: • Bobby was also a natural actor. He received an Oscar nomination in 1964 for Best Supporting Actor in the film "Captain Newman, M.D." • Bobby also wrote music. Search for "Simple Song of Freedom" which he wrote and sang. Great song!
I have loved this Bobby Darin as long as I can remember... I can listen to him sing this any way that he performed it...everyday! Missing him even after all this time...😢

Mike Hopes are you sure? It’s hard for me to tell. I mean it very well could be that. But if you’re talking about the swinging of his arm before the slap, if you look closely he’s snapping. So unless you’re talking about something else I can’t tell. Like I said it very well could be. And if so, could you help me see it?
@@mikelheron20 No it's true. He used to joke about it in his concerts and to friends. Or read one of the many books about him. It was a side effect of his meds and his condition.

I don't think Frank Sinatra actually has any recording of this song out there. There are plenty of videos on TH-cam misattributing him to the song though.
When I was young and played drums in a rock band, I couldn't understand at how Bobby Darin could switch to jazz standards and felt like he had betrayed me. As I grew older, I also transitioned over to jazz standards which was far more musical, more complicated and far more fulfilling. Since then, I always felt I owed Bobby an apology. He left us too soon and had so much more to give, just like Buddy Holly, Jim Croce, Otis Redding, Jimi Hendrix (who was transitioning to jazz), Janis Joplin, Ricky Nelson and so many more, who were beginning to mature and explore the next phase of their musical growth. I miss them all.

Really well put. Funny thing is I remember MAD magazine putting him down as a Sinatra wannabe-which he def was NOT. Bobby Darin was a bridge between the big band vocalist and the rock star. Bobby could really rock (early rock) whereas Frank actually hated rock. BD’s last hit: “If I Were A Carpenter” shows he was growing and evolving as an artist. His passing at 37 from heart failure is a tragic loss. I think of Bobby D often. I remember his last appearances on the classic Flip Wilson Show-and wonder why those aren’t in syndication. Be slapped his wrist because it was shaking. He was having trouble because of his heart condition by then. Such a shame
