      It's like the 10mm vs .40 S&W phenomenon. The run-of-the-mill .45-70 is probably loaded weak enough to avoid cracking up the old rifles, unless you buy from a brand known to run hot loads across the board.

    For those who might be a little afraid of the recoil on a single-shot .45-70, I have this gun in a brass plated collectors edition. Mine has no padding what-so-ever (just a brass butt plate), and I can easily put 25 rounds down range without a worry. My Marlin kicks like a mule on steroids, these push like a 3 year old with no where to go in particular. I honestly don't know how Henry reduces the recoil on these single shots, but every single one I have ever fired has been a pleasant experience.

    I have a 4570 in the New England arms version which I'm not sure they make anymore, weighs about 5 pounds, kills on one end and maims on the other. And can handle equivalent loads as the Ruger#1. Which leaves you one or 200 ft./s slower than the 458 Winchester magnum. It is definitely not a plinker, the recoil is absolutely horrific when you go above factory loads, but the accuracy is phenomenal which is a great importance of a single shot rifle, and whether you're in the states or Africa, you're probably not gonna need more than one shot. The Henry has much more beautiful lines, while the in the NEF is strictly a workhorse, As shameless as I am, I would rather take the Henry so as not so much embarrassment in a hunting camp... but for now I'll stick with the devil I know just because it hits in one & a quarter groups at 100 yards all day long while my shoulder and cheek bleed profusely😂

      I use me Marlin as a bush gun. I hunt in an area where bear is plentiful, and I want a gun that is small enough not to get in my way, but powerful enough to drop a bear with one shot. I'm not a huge fan of oversized pistols, so the Marlin .45-70 was the best choice for the job.

      Yes, you need to remove the rear sight for long scopes (like the application above in vid).

    I was looking at these but I ended up choosing Thompson Center Encore since TC has a much larger selection of calibers and the encore can interchange barrels which greatly increases versatility
    Still getting used to the sights not sure about a scope for the current barrel ( brush gun) might put do red dot not sure just yet

    You should do a review on the 45 Raptor, 45/70, 350 legend, 450 bushmaster, I have a 45 Raptor and it shoots well above 2700fps, but I don't know how well it shoots past 200yd yet because I have not had the chance too. If you decided to do a review please let me know but I will keep on checking if you do.

    Love Hornady ammo and their bullets for reloading but hate the FTX bullets. Had a 80-90 lb cougar come in while trying to call a bear in. She wouldn't scare off and kept in her crouch up to 40 yards and I am talking to her and waving my arms. Shot her quartering to me in the shoulder. Bullet, of course, passed through but I found the entire jacket between her bunghole and base of her tail. What the hell? Shot with a .450 Marlin and have switched to 350gr lead handloads. Much better and a bear hammer.

  • @stephenhair5501

    Love that 45/70 caliber. It does drop deer sized game reliably. First time I ever hunted with a 45/70, was with my friends Marlin lever action. Was Deer hunting, but it quickly turned into a Coyote hunt. Killed a black phase coyote and a normal colored one, both dropped to a 405 grain cast lead bullet. Very impressive load!!

  • @jakeoutdoors9600
    @jakeoutdoors9600 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you think you need need 1,000 foot pounds to kill a deer then you must think the 357 magnum is not a viable deer cartridge as it has roughly half that. Enjoyed the video, a lot of love for big straight wall cartridges.

    • @jima28080
      @jima28080 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That figure might somewhat apply to small caliber bullets but a large hole through the lung equals a dead animal in short order. Foot pounds of energy is greatly overrated in terms of killing power.

    • @wes326
      @wes326 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Back in the day, the .44-40 took a lot of deer. I think 500 foot pounds minimum would be a better criteria.
