LOL, looks like we both did pretty much the same upgrade. I went from a FTW3 3080ti to a Gigabyte 4090 gaming OC (and yes, that little anti sag bracket works really well). I also use a 5900x for my CPU. After testing, I would have to say the 4090 is just a hair under twice the performance of the 3080ti. I would have to say I am so impressed with this card, it runs so cool as compared to my 3080ti, it's so nice to not have a space heater in my play room, mind you, it was handy in the winter months (I'm in Canada, LOL). Now my 3080ti has gone into my upstairs computer where I use my Quest-2 and Pico 4 and the 6900xt went into my wife's computer, she occasionally uses her Quest-2 but rarely so that card is serious overkill for what she uses her computer for. I did run the 4090 on only 3 cables from my Seasonic 850 watt PSU and it worked fine, after a few days I decided to go balls to the wall and got a Seasonic Vertex 1200 PSU that has the straight cable to the 4090. Only time you might need more than a 850 watt PSU with the 4090 is if you start OC'ing it, some models of the 4090 can hit 600+ watts so this is where the 850 would be inadequate. Enjoy your new GPU in both machines, looking forward to your thoughts of the Pimax Crystal once you get it, after the expense of the 4090, it'll be a LONG time before I can even consider something like a Crystal or Aero! LOL But to be honest, I'm still very happy with my Reverb G2 considering I'm using Index knuckle controllers with mine for room scale play (my idea of the perfect setup since I'm no big fan of the Index HMD)
Wow Jackr, sounds like we basically followed the same path for sure... Great minds think alike? Good to know you have having similar success with your 4090. I think it is funny when you look at what the 3080ti did running at almost 100% and then the 4090 comes along and says I can do that with one hand tied behind my back (running at 50%). I think we have some headroom for sure in the 4090s. I actually put a small overclock on the 4090 already, but as you said I didn't want to go too crazy with the 850 watt. I'll certainly let you know about the Crystal when I review it, but I can already tell you if you do roomscale, you will love going wireless with that high resolution the Crystal offers! Then once the lighthouse faceplate comes out for the Crystal, you can use your index controllers again too... Just like what I plan to do (as I said, Great Minds!) Thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed comment!
@@GYGOtv LOL, yep, GMTA! LOL The problem us simmers seem to be facing now is not the level of the hardware but the age of the software, a lot of racing sims (AC, rFactor-2, RaceRoom to name a few) are still based on DX-9 and it being single core, single threaded, the CPU is the limiting factor, no matter how good the CPU may be. The old software would need a re-write to take advantage of modern hardware and we all know that's not going to happen especially for VR. Actually, my guess is you could use knuckles with the Crystal also, all you need is a pair of "VRdongles" and the free software called "OpenVR Space Calibrator" this is as long as you already have the base stations and knuckles or Vive wands. :) I'm so use to the cable for VR (old OG Vive and CV1 days) that when I use the Quest-2 or Pico 4 in wifi mode, I keep feeling around to find the cable so I don't get tangled in it! LOL Best of luck to you with the Crystal, looking forward to seeing your 1st impressions and review. :)

Ever since factory packaged water-cooled GPU's came out several years ago, this is the only way I will roll for now on! No more noisy tiny fans spinning, no more high temps on the GPU, It's been proven reliable on at least 2 generations now too. Best design if you plan on getting any top-end series graphics card with these huge wattage requirements now and in the foreseeable future. HOWEVER: with 30+ years of industrial automation and robotics experience, I had a serious LOL moment when I saw the new 12VHP connector reveal. "They plan on allowing how much wattage through that tiny friken connector, what a damn mistake!" Now they finally admitted it and are redesigning the thing for the next generation. I am more interested in Long-term reliability because I don't replace my parts every couple years. So I just hope you guys out there have no issues with that connector 2-3 years down the road, fingers crossed for you all. More concerned about having to unplug it way down the road in a few years: all the excessive heating and cool-down cycles will loosen the connection points. It may not make proper contact on the next plug-in and melt-down, etc. And the problem applies to both the cable AND the plastic shrouded connector on the card itself! Wishing all the best anyway, enjoy the new upgrade. (I'm still waiting for another year or so for an upgrade.)
Thanks for taking the time to write such a great comment! I agree with all your points, and also don't like the connector. That's why I used the adapter instead of a dedicated cord from the PSU. That way when I need to unplug, I can keep the adapter plugged into the card, we will see if that helps. Thanks for watching!
I did an upgrade from 5900x to 7800x3d with still the 3080ti in use but i have no vr. Its a different with day and night in cpu areas. It will for you do a huge improvement to with VR.

If you happen to have a 4090 and a weaker PSU you can power limit the 4090 to 80% using Afterburner and lose very little in real world performance while significantly limiting cards power draw. Probably a quality 750W PSU would suffice in that situation.
Hi dpskatoo, that is certainly one way to look at it for sure. I can tell you this watercooled version is pretty quiet even when running hard. With 3 fans on a radiator, they don't need to run as fast so it is actually quite nice on the ears. It also seems to be helping the temps in the case as well. Overall I've very glad I waited until I could get this version of the card. Thanks for commenting.
Just a question... Since you're mostly CPU bound like most of us... Why haven't you upgraded to a 5800x3d yet? I'm an intel guy with a 13900k and even i feel jealous about the 5800x3d every now and then 😅
That is a great question dukeofdream! Basically a few reasons... number one is my bank account, I just purchased the 4090 and also the Pimax Crystal... and about a year ago I bought the Varjo Aero so the funds are a little low right now since I pay for everything myself. That being said, the other reason is I think I can get the performance where I want it with the 5900x once I get multi-threading to work. If not the CPU Upgrade might be on my Christmas list, but I will likely need to get a new power supply as well because I don't think the 5900x3D (I'm sure I'd want to go 5900) is as energy efficient as the 5900x (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong because I haven't done my deep research on the CPU yet). Anyway I hope that answers your question... it was a good one!
@@GYGOtv There is no 5900x3d.. Only 5800x3d... It's actually more power efficient than your 5900x since it has 4 cores less + the 3D cache is very temperature sensitive.. @@dukeofdream You were right, it was only a 5800x3D, just misread the link. I'll see how good I can get everything to run on the 5900x but its nice to know there is at least an upgrade path with the AMD4 Socket if I need it! Appreciate the advice.

Hi jango71, not sure the time stamp is correct because 6min is talking about being CPU Bound... but I get your point. The answer is... it is a tough call and it will really come down to your finances and how much GPU power you need (and what you are upgrading from). For me, if I wasn't "really" upgrading my 3060ti I probably would have skipped the 4090 BUT since I did get it I might as well tell you all my experience and compare it for you. What I'm trying to say here is that there is a noticeable improvement in practice even from the latest gen high end cards (which isn't always the case) so it might make sense for some people who are looking for the absolute best performance you can get right now. From other people's comments above, it seems several people have done exactly what I have done and are happy with the purchase, so it really comes down to your personal situation if it is worth it or not, and my hope is this video gives you a little more info to help you make that decision for yourself. For me, it make sense in my situation and was worth it... for others it might not. I hope that helps answer you question, and thanks for asking about it.
It's a shame DCS is so CPU bottlenecked you can see the 4090 has an extra 20-30% to give depending on the situation and on the ship it was only at around a 50% load.
Well I think the new Multi-Threading implementation in DCS will help with that quite a bit. I'm just having some issues getting the Aero to play nice with OpenXR right now so I had to go to the old single thread executable until I can work some of those issues out. I'm really excited to see what the 4080 and MT can do in DCS once that is all working! Appreciate you watching our stuff.
Well MSI was the other Option for watercooled, and a cracked Gigabyte is better than a fully working MSI IMO... Actually the cracking is due to how high they cut the card around the PCI Interface. This one doesn't have as much strain on it as one with an air cooler so with a little care during install it should last just fine.
Hi Whiteflyingmonkey... this was the quickest I could get the 4090 Waterforce without paying scalper prices, and I haven't seen many other people with a Waterforce so I figured it might be helpful for someone out there.
LOL
The problem us simmers seem to be facing now is not the level of the hardware but the age of the software, a lot of racing sims (AC, rFactor-2, RaceRoom to name a few) are still based on DX-9 and it being single core, single threaded, the CPU is the limiting factor, no matter how good the CPU may be.
I'm so use to the cable for VR (old OG Vive and CV1 days) that when I use the Quest-2 or Pico 4 in wifi mode, I keep feeling around to find the cable so I don't get tangled in it! LOL
Best of luck to you with the Crystal, looking forward to seeing your 1st impressions and review. :)
@@jackr.749 I think you are right with the software... we waited FOREVER for DCS to release the Multi-Threaded version of the sim, so hopefully more sims will follow. I actually already have those dongles, but I"ll probably just wait for the lighthouse faceplate on the Crystal before I mess with it. Stay tuned for the review... and thanks for watching.
This is exactly the upgrade I’m currently waiting on. Got a crazy good deal on a 4090 for amazon prime day and even though my cpu isn’t good enough I’ll just upgrade that with a next gen cpu in the future
Awesome, yes you shouldn't have to worry about another GPU upgrade for awhile :) If you don't mind me asking, what deal did you find?
You are correct. I run a 4090 with amd 7800x3d and the CPU is generally the limiting factor in msfs 2020. This CPU is considered the fastest available today for msfs 2020. Enjoy your 4090. It is totally worth it! I'm waiting for a faster CPU to come out and then will upgrade. Pimax crystal is on the way per recommendations given here and this channel has me tempted to get the H6 with sfu upgrade. Thanks for the reviews. Great channel!

@@GYGOtv 🤣
Thanks for the comment jveenendaal, honestly with the performance so far I'm pretty happy right now. We will see what the Pimax Crystal does to all this so stay tuned! Appreciate the view.
congrats my friend on your purchase my crystal will be shipped on the 21 of july cant wait lol. and i didnt get to enjoy my simulator yet because of the encoder on motor one was damaged in shipping causing motor 1 not going back to neautral , center position. but no worries part is getting delivered tommorrow friday. and i couldnt get SRS sliders to work for motion test. i guest it knows the motor is not going to center on start up. does that make sense? ok buddy talk to you later might have some questions on SRS when i get up and running.
Congrats Richard, and again thank you for your long time viewership! I think I'll be getting mine sometime in August, and of course I will want to spend a few weeks with it before putting together my official review. As for your rig, sorry to hear about that... at least you are close to getting it going, as for SRS, yes I bet it can read a bad encoder but I don't know for sure. As for tuning... make sure you watch the 2 Part video that Jeff and I did, if you haven't already. Very exciting times for us VR/Flight Enthusiasts don't you think?
Thanks for the great little review. Power grunt aside I really like the split form factor of the card. Re the dof, I was surprised how much kick it gives in takeoff and landing. Impressive.
Hey TDUB!!! Yes, when I got my 3080ti, I thought ok next card needs to be water cooled because these air coolers are just getting too big and heavy! As for the DOF, yes it is and a awesome feeling... at least you know when you catch the wire on the carrier :) Appreciate you buddy!

Got a 3090 so i think i will save my $2000 and wait for the 5000 series. And getting DLSS and Vulkan Api will help a lot
Not a bad plan. Not to mention Dynamic Foveated Rendering will help a ton as well. Thanks for commenting.
If you happen to have a 4090 and a weaker PSU you can power limit the 4090 to 80% using Afterburner and lose very little in real world performance while significantly limiting cards power draw. Probably a quality 750W PSU would suffice in that situation.
Thanks for the tip!!! I'm sure this will help some folks out there. Appreciate you watching and sharing!
Should I pair 4090 with a 5800x 3d? what do you guys think?
Sure, why not? I'm running a 5900x and it works great. Obviously get the strongest CPU you can but AMD works fine with the 4090. Hope that helps.
@@GYGOtv thanks for the tip
The real reason to buy a 4090 is so you can limit it to 60% power and get great performance in silence.
For this reason the processor is locked and operates at a lower clock than the normal 5800x... If you want one, i'd get it soon... it's not gonna be around for much longer, Lately it's like really cheap... Seen ads for less than 280 bucks, more like 230 or something... I completely understand the funding problem... I mean people see you get a 4090 and think you are rich or something 😅 I'm not rich guys, i'm just irresponsible haha... Right now i have less than 100 bucks available but i do have a 4090 🤣
@@dukeofdream I love that sentence "I'm not rich guys, I'm just irresponsible haha..." I'll look into the 5800... I thought I saw a 59003D but might have just misread it. Thanks for giving me another thing to spend my money on... Oh, so that is what that feels like :)
@@GYGOtv It's so much worth it though... You'll see once you get it ;)
@@dukeofdream You were right, it was only a 5800x3D, just misread the link. I'll see how good I can get everything to run on the 5900x but its nice to know there is at least an upgrade path with the AMD4 Socket if I need it! Appreciate the advice.

Nice Rig. 👍
Thanks, I certainly enjoy it!!! It is the best purchase I have ever made for immersion of a game.
Isn’t your phrase at 6:00 just implying that the 2000 euros are not worth it? I do not get it.
DCS is not a good example. In the case of his system, it's the CPU and other stuff bottlenecking the FPS.
I did do it and my answer is: Yes, absolutely

That CPU is a major bottleneck for the 4090. You need 7800x3d or 13900k to pair it with
Would love one... Feel free to support me on Patreon.com/gygo so I can afford it! :)
Why ppl still buy gigabyte where its clear that they are cracking
Well MSI was the other Option for watercooled, and a cracked Gigabyte is better than a fully working MSI IMO... Actually the cracking is due to how high they cut the card around the PCI Interface. This one doesn't have as much strain on it as one with an air cooler so with a little care during install it should last just fine.
