Toyota Yaris Hybrid - The Perfect Hatchback for the City.

  • This week on the DoneDeal TH-cam channel we're reviewing the new Toyota Yaris. In 2021 Toyota revamped it's ever so popular small hatchback, and they've done a fantastic job. The styling is gorgeous with some big wide arches, a lovely front grill and a very clean interior.
In Ireland it's still possible to get a manual version of the Yaris with a small petrol engine and just over 70bhp. This is appealing for both first time drives and people who like the old fashion way of driving. Toyota have also got modern customers in mind, with plenty of tech, driving aids and an incredibly impressive Hybrid system. Yes, it's a CVT system, but it's phenomenally smooth.
Last year the Yaris was the 3rd best selling car, and after spending a week in it, we completely understand the enthusiasm for it.
Whether you go for a basic trim, or all out, the Yaris is still relatively affordable which is great, particularly if you consider buying it on a finance deal.
We hope you enjoy our review, and thank you for watching.

@@oddities-whatnot In general it's a pretty noisefree car. But on the motorway the CVT and windnoise can be a little loud. But its well worth the money overall. Dont forget that it was car of the year 4 years ago 😎🇸🇪

When accelerating hard, it drones quite noticeably. When coasting on motorway, the engine is as quiet as it gets, as the cvt can reduce rpm very low.@@oddities-whatnot

Eleven months ago we were very enthusiastic about the new Yaris Hybrid and planned to replace our then four and a half year old Yaris Hybrid with this new one in the summer. This choice seemed like a no-brainer!
Until we had a proper look in the showroom at our dealer and found out that the new Yaris is not exactly a practical car. Really a pity because we really were satisfied with our Yaris and liked what the new one looked like.
Shown here (4:46), is that the rear doors only open very limited. I would say a crack... With the driver seat arranged for me (1.83 m.) and when I squeezed myself in through that crack, I'm poking in the front seat with my knees....
Don't even think about installing a child seat through those doors and let's better not talk about getting a kid in that chair... 😠
We also had the new Honda Jazz Hybrid in the back of our mind.
We decided to take both for an extensive test drive. Anyone who is faced with that choice should do so! And discover that good looks don't mean "the best".
Here the winner was clearly the Jazz: quieter, more comfortable, much better visibility, more space and "sense of space" because of the light interior and the big windows. Next to this the materials in the interior of the Jazz also gave a better "quality impression".
And let's better not talk about how practical the Jazz is compared to the Yaris....
If you compare the reviews, it is 100% clear that they confirm what we discovered during the test drives. And next to what I wrote here we concluded that of these two small hybrids, only the Jazz is suitable as a (small) family car, the Yaris (unfortunately) not.
A test drive costs you nothing... and can be very surprising! You won't be surprised that we are driving a Honda Jazz now...

When we made our choice, the price difference between the Yaris Hybrid Executive and the Jazz Executive I mentioned here already. Also a matter of getting a good deal.
If the Yaris is spacious (and practical) enough and if you usually drive with no more than 2 people, it is simply a good choice.
The Yaris is indeed slightly more economical⛽, on Spritmonitor the difference is about 0.3 to 0.4 l/100 km. I can live with that...😉

i am so annoyed with covid and people getting lazy and wanting auto it is hard to get a manual in Australia. corolla stopped a while ago yaris stopped last year and vw the new one only comes in manual, but if you go auto th will give you the 85 k/watt motor where as the manual is 70 k/watt there trying to encourage people to go auto. i have just started looking at a Toyota i was going to stick with vw but there getting to dear. thought about a hybrid too or a yarris cross

Five speed manual option ? Nope. The new Yaris only comes as a hybrid which has an eCVT. Im pretty sure Ireland does not get any other options.

Despite it being a stunningly beautiful design I've rejected it because, firstly, even the top spec version comes sans satnav - and, no, I can't be bothered fiddling around with phone connectivity - secondly, many reviewers complain that there's intrusive wind noise and tyre roar on the motorway and, thirdly, one dealer to whom I wrote asking six simple questions contented themselves with (a) a generic cut‐and paste 'response' and (b) totally ignored my repeated attempt to obtain proper answers so they lost my potential custom because they didn't deserve it, given their lazy 'performance' - image plunge,Toyota. Powerfully seductive though the car's charms most certainly are I'm afraid that, cumulatively, this manufacturer failed to prise the wonga from my wallet.
