    The Easy Check is a 700ml sistema klip it container that comes with the strainer (if you can find it). LocknLock sells a similar one. It's a pickling jar. I bought this Sistema one 10 years ago to hold yeast and have used the strainer for years for berries.

      The Lock n Lock 1.9 liter rectangular box is great for holding and soaking swedish sponges cut in half to do Randy Oliver's OAE process, you can do up 600g of OA & glycerin in it, I used an old fashioned tater masher to make sure all my sponges got soaked, compress and release several times while the liquid is still hot, then flip the Lock n Lock box over, letting sponges relax for a few minutes, then repeat the process, when your done all the liquid should be in the sponges let stand for 24 hours, then take them out a lay out on a board to dry, then use or store em back in the Lock n Lock box till needed. have fun with you bees

    I've been using the easy mite check tool ever since I started beekeeping, and I switch to Dawn Ultra soap as a mite release agent as soon as I saw Randy Oliver's research. I had great success with those tools and would recommend them to anyone :)

    Thanks for the tips. I like that Ceracell Mite Test kit - I'm not a fan of the leaking either. You can also put 4-5 tablespoons of Dawn Ultra in a gallon pump sprayer if you need some wasp or insect killer. Works great and much safer that the spray can.

    Thank you Kamon - I did an alcohol wash roughly 3 weeks ago on one hive with a result of 2 mites, Saturday I tested a different hive within 5 feet of the previous hive with Dawn and am looking at like 20+ mites... Truly that big a difference in a hive that close or a faulty test?
    Planning to treat all my hives with OA every 3 days for 2 weeks then follow up with Api-gaurd, and test again and hope I'm not too late!

    • @kamonreynolds
      @kamonreynolds  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that can happen I washed 3s, 1s, and zeros and had a hive with a 33 in the same yard. Got to get those mite loads down so they won't reinfect the rest!

    • @kamonreynolds

      I have it is not near as accurate and you nearly kill the bees beating them to death in the jar. Tests have shown it severely shortens their lifespan so I just euthanize them quickly

    I watched a video..central Maryland beekeepers assoc...where he mixed oxalic acid for 1 hive. I've seen not to mix for less then 5. Guess he's been doing this for years w success. I only have 1 dbl deep hive. What's your opinion on the small ratio of ing. please?

    I like the easy check it's worked great for me and it doesn't leak if it's used right and I have never had a mite get stuck in the basket. I don't think your giving them a good review. 🤨

    • @kamonreynolds
      @kamonreynolds  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Easy check does work and worked good enough for me for years but it isn't as good as this one. There are tons of beekeepers on here , amazon, facebook and others who constantly have leak problems with the easy check. Very common problem. I have 3 of them. They all leak. I have seen the rare mite get stuck in the holes before. Everyone has their opinion, mine is based on a lot of experience and a lot of pro beekeepers with the same experience.
      I disagree with your opinion on my review.

    Hi Kamon, is there something specific to the Dawn detergent that makes it better than other brands or will any concentrated detergent do the job?
    I’m asking because I’ve not seen that brand on the shelf in the UK.

    • @kamonreynolds
      @kamonreynolds  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it is just how concentrated it is. I have no doubt there are comparable dish liquids under different names. But they have been tested so maybe you should find a UK one and let me know!

    • @kimberesford2444
      @kimberesford2444 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kamonreynolds that was my hunch too.
      I’ll try a couple of UK brands alongside an alcohol wash and see how they stack up.
      My wife has just run search on the Dawn product and it is available from Amazon but the price is a little tasty over here 😖
      The marketing jargon claims that it is good for killing fleas so it may contain some active ingredient.

      When you find a hive with very low mite counts, do you select that queen for breeding new queens and growing lots of drones? I think that might help develop mite resistant bees in this country.
