Making a Steel Plate Nazgul Gauntlet

  • One of the most adorned pieces of armor from the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Cold and spikey and therefore a pleasure to the Eye.
    In this video I guide you through the deathless process of making one. From steel plate to Gothic elegance. From the vambrace towards iron fingers that are made to grasp the One Ring.
    If you want to do this yourself, realise it will take time, deep cuts through the flesh and most of all: a lot of filing.
    I am planning on making the second (right) gauntlet and am looking forward to keep those of you, who are also fascinated by this object, updated.

      There will be more I promise. I just finished building a new workspace and I'm planning on making a new pair of gauntlets with improved mobility and knuckleriders made out of one piece.

    very interesting to see how you did the knucklerider, that gave me headaches for weeks. overall a very good result! well done!
    one small tip, if you place the rivet slots on an angle (higher towards the front) you get a little bit more movement around the wrist area

    • @poldermaskerarmory8198
      @poldermaskerarmory8198  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Interesting tip M4verick. I tried to grant the bearer of the gauntlets more flexibility around the wrist area by using wider rivetholes. What you say makes sense! Thanks :)

      Thank you Allen, remember for us everyday is Halloween :D I have practiced a lot and studied the design thoroughly. Now that I have made a pair and connected both gauntlets to gloves I am planning to make a video about how they are worn and their functionality. I am curious about what you made, perhaps it's much better than you think. For the maker they always look different than to the audience.

      @@poldermaskerarmory8198 i actually didn't finish the gauntlets. I got everything cut out but I ran into issues when it came to rivets. Couldn't figure out how to make nice clean one out of the materials I had. After time to learn and watching this video my confidence has grown. I havent posted it anywhere but if I finish it this year I'll post it somewhere. I was making a costume for my brother, I finished everything but those. I felt bad for letting him down, but he asked me to finish this year. If I post it it'll be on my Instagram allen_is_an_alien

    I'm making a steel Witch King set, and while I have most of it down, I don't have access to a grinder OR a good knuckle pattern. For the most part, the Adam Savage patterns work a treat, but the knuckle is where it really doesn't transfer to metal well. Would you be willing to develop a pattern NOT requiring welding, and would be accessible? Thanks!

    • @poldermaskerarmory8198
      @poldermaskerarmory8198  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Try the example that I show in this video as a blueprint, then connect the folded metal to an underlying plate by riveting. This way you overcome the need to weld. By thoroughly riveting the plates together the rivets themselves will be barely visible.
      You can also try to create the spiky gadlings out of one piece. This is a bit harder to do, especially for novels.
      Just start and have fun.

      This knucklerider took some brainstorming as well. Blueprints can be found on the Internet. Some of them are meant for 3D printers but the designs are similar to what I show in this video. Overall they need to fit. That is why you should design them yourself and test them beforehand with paper. This will save you a lot of steel. I will make a video on how to make designs. I'm currently working on one. I will let you know through this channel.

    • @m4verick6666

      the most accurate templet in my opinion has punished props / tested.com . the pattern was taken from a highly accurate movie replica of kropserkel. but as PoldermaskerArmory pointed out here, the knucklerider is a very complicated piece that you kind of have to figure out yourself. even the templetes online are not really working.

    • @mellie2003
      @mellie2003 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@m4verick6666 Indeed, they're not working for the knucklerider and it's not all templates. I do know for sure that the masters at Kropserkel TIG weld the spiky gadlings to knucklerider that is made out of one piece of hot rolled (1mm) steel. This knucklerider is made with great skill also I cannot comprehend. And there is seeing it for yourself. Once created, a pair of gauntlets that can be worn, allow you a feel. A feel which cannot be transfered via youtube.
