Why would have been? It was expensive, but only if you had it made specially for you, some pieces could have been stolen from battlefield and sold afterwards. It wasnt so expensive then
Not going to lie. I skipped right to the end and was greeted with a rather hilarious 3-5 minutes of pure silence as you stoically hammered away at your hand with a mace and nodded at your own work. Absolutely Legendary!
at 50 seconds in there's a sort of rough draft gauntlet last you've made, could you tell us more about how you put that together? some kind of plaster construction?
I recently saw an Adam Savage video where he toured the armor shop at a New York museum. He was delighted, shocked, and amazed to see the thumbnails shaped in the gauntlets there. You should try that detail then get all your subscribers to tweet the video to Adam Savage.
Hi, that was a fantastic video to watch mate, the way you made that out of sheet metal and brought it to life with using all the tools available, i was defiantly watching a master of his craft at work! Just fantastic work mate! I would love to make one my self one day, love doing that type of work!! How did that feel when you put it on for the first time? And I bet it was a bit heavy? What is the weight on that in kg's? no thanks mate, ill refuse the fist bump this time, but thanks for asking! lol take care and have a great day!
There really is none. Go search for how a hammer blow moves metal, the types of anvils that exists (or that you want to make). Learn how a forge works, the difference between hot and cold forging. Quenching. Look up general blacksmithing too. That way you get introduced on how to make your own hammers and tools, and smaller projects that will build the skills needed for and prepare you for the complex forming of armour (at least if you want authentic historical armour that intentionally vary in thickness to save weight but still have the thickness where it is most needed. If you want armour to wield in hema and or sca heavy fighting you then just need thick plating to withstand the test of constant wear)
Автор хорошая работа. Для тех кто любит зантматься с железяками...хотел спросить как вы там позолотили металл. Нагрели слегка и шуруповертом накручивали.
At this level of artisanship I know there are no patterns involved. They study the design and make it fit roughly with boardpaper. It is all about feel and experience.
Plot twist: the video isn't sped up, the dude's been sniffing borax. EDIT: On a serious note, I was scouring YT looking for a way to make full fingertip plates and I completely forgot this vid existed :P
The first way he did it was the historically correct way they did it in the Middle Ages. Most historically accurate pieces don't have the steel finger loops because they would rivet a leather backing on the inside of the gauntlet, then a well fitted leather glove would be sewn onto that leather backing. Putting plates or mail on the inside of the hand would compromise the grip on your weapon and make it harder to feel anything. The hand is already protected when the fist is closed, so its not much of a compromise.

А в чём заключается расизм?,украинцы это отдельная расса?
And this is why plate armour would have been incredibly expensive in medieval times. The time and skill involved in making it is extraordinary
Still is expensive, what you mean,
Dude it only took him 21 minutes. And he used magic. Not THAT hard. Sheesh.
Why would have been? It was expensive, but only if you had it made specially for you, some pieces could have been stolen from battlefield and sold afterwards. It wasnt so expensive then
Except that historically time/labour was super cheap, the materials were what made it expensive
Not to mention the video equipment expense

and also truly superb editing, thoroughly enjoyed every second of this build.
I love the pre-polish stage. It looks like armor that has been unearthed from the medieval days.
Never seen such beautifully edited transitions , brilliant job

Would you recommend any literature to start armour crafting for someone who may be considered a hobbyist?

Is pressing the steel in the press similar to dishing? In that the metal is thinned in the middle? Or is it similar to rasing?
You gonna build the other gauntlet next then the rest of the armor?
How or where did you learn this craft?
16:06 I'm pretty sure your insurance company just shit themselves. Jokes aside another amazing build, takes some serious care and patience this.
I turned on the lowest speed of my grinder. And polished gently with a soft wheel. In general, it's pretty safe if you have a job history :)

Did you purposely make the fingers wrong the first time JUST to illustrate why they need the loops?
The first way he did it was the historically correct way they did it in the Middle Ages.
