I’ve been designing and making strung beaded jewelry for many years and these tips really help take our work from amateur to professional. Thanks so much for sharing!
I love the way you present. I'm looking forward to finding more videos that "you" create. Thank you for your time and the care you put into teaching us long time crafters that are returning to beading \ jewelry making after over 40 yrs.
Thank you for this! I've beaded for several years now but have always had trouble with crimps and crimp covers. You have explained the technique exceptionally well.
What you didn't mention is that you need to separate the wire to each side before crimping. Both of the mistakes you showed had not been separated. This takes a little practice but it makes all the difference!
Easy to follow with good close up views to see what you are doing. Some useful tips on leaving a space for the crimp cover, which has caused me much grief on many occasions when trying to fit one over a crimp. I do have a question with the thin wire. Does the band round the spool that stops the wire unravelling have a trade name and can you get it in the UK?
Same here. I learnt through own mistakes, better to cut bit extra to finish a piece properly and leaving space so a piece doesn't snap under pressure. Mainly a bracelet.
Thanks for all the tips. I learned a lot. I wish there were links to all the products mentioned. What is the wrap holding the stringing spools together called?
Thanks for watching! The sparkling beads are faceted crystal rondelles. Here is a great selection of Crystal Passions rondelles: www.firemountaingems.com/shop/crystal-5040_brand_shape
You explained this very well, and I do understand it, BUT, I won’t be able to remember all of it. It would be helpful to me if I had something that I can refer to. Is there a downloadable chart that I can print out to keep with my Fire Mountain Gems catalog? It would help me be more accurate choosing and ordering the proper stringing materials? Thank You for sharing your expertise and for this very informative video.
Thanks for sharing!! When designing a size gradient necklace where the larger bead is focal and the beads decrease in size towards the closure, which bead size should dictate the type of string you would use?
If you are going to be using the same length of beading wire, you'll want to use one that will pass through all of the beads. So, you'll be using a beading wire that will pass through the smallest bead in your design.
Hi Nicole, you can shop our selection of crystal rondelles on our website by going to www.firemountaingems.com/ or by clicking the website link in the description above. Don't forget to check out our huge selection of other jewelry making supplies while you're there! Happy creating!
They say that you should fill the hole of the bead. So if I have a large hole bead and a small hole bead. Should I use beads where the holes are the same. Cuz that's hard to do sometimes.
It wasn't specified in the video, but we have a variety of options depending on your project. A common combination that we use would be a 2mm crimp and a 3 or 4mm crimp cover. We also carry them in a variety of materials and finishes: Crimps: www.firemountaingems.com/shop/crimp_beads Crimp Covers: www.firemountaingems.com/shop/crimp_bead_covers
How about stringing pearls with silk threads? Real pearls have really tiny holes. Do you have a tutorial /information/tips on how to make the knots in between each pearl and how to close the 2 ends? I find this very challenging to do correctly and still haven't mastered it. Thank you!

Hi Judy. We're sorry, we don't have a downloadable chart with this information. Sorry about that.

@Lawrenberg Hanson • I need to know the same thing.

@@FireMountainGems thanks!.
@@FireMountainGems I would think you'd want to use a beading wire that will pass through the largest bead in the design. ???
@@mariejmyrick No, The smaller the bead the smaller the hole.
This was a great video tutorial. Now what I really want to know is where can I get those large crystal Rondelles in those gorgeous colors.
