    Ah, the classic med student overachiever who has plans to be a very specialized surgeon before even first class of anatomy and knowing the difference between sagittal and coronal planes, and who makes you feel bad because you have not already decided on your subspecialization on the first month of med school.
    Yeah, no. I don't miss that.

      I’m still in the beginning of my second year and I still have no idea what I want to…I just know I like interpreting imaging lol don’t know how I could’ve been dead set on specialized surgeries before entering an OR

      I wanted to be a plastic surgeon in America
      Now I'm training to be a family doctor in England. Lol

    This kid knows the field in which he needs to sub specialise, meanwhile when a consultant asked us what speciality we wanted to go in.. I was like... Just Complete Medical School alive 😅

    Didn’t go into surgery, but that transplant rotation was pretty cool, watching that kidney light up like that…6+ hours was a bit much though

      Like i know weve been transplanting organs for a while now, but it stills blows my mind we can remove someones failing organ and replace it with someone elses healthy organ

    A friend of mine (we’re both family medicine residents on our last hospital rotations before permanent clinic duty) met an intern in her current department who has a pre-grad degree from imperial college london in biochem research and wants to be in both ophthalmology and anesthesiology. In reply my friend looked at the intern with her 3 years of 28-hour-shift eyebags and said, sure. You do you.

    I do remember the ortho surgeon mentioning the possible need for cadaver ligaments when my son had his elbow surgery.
    Fortunately, that wasn’t necessary.

    As an organ preservationist, this actually made me laugh a bit. Don't forget about the thoracics though, they are my favorite (way less dissection time).

    Yes, cadaver ligament and tendon repairs are pretty common.

    I had a cadaver ligament “transplanted” after my knee was destroyed by 150lb Great Dane ran into me at the dog park. It was a 7 hour surgery.
    I was even given a form to write a letter to the donor’s family. I’m surprised you don’t know that.

      Looks like a zombie. High on energy drinks & no sleep after studying all night at campus most days of the week. Deathly silent or rattling on about whatever amazing thing he's just studied/heard of.
      (Just a guess based on more normal med students I knew.)
