When a surgeon says, "This is absolutely brutal to watch" you know it is brutal, and you had every right to cringe and for your stomach to do flip flops when you watched it.
The video has only just started, but I already know you definitely mean 127 Hours. Everyone I've spoke to has said the same, that it's an ordeal to watch.
I've had the pleasure of meeting Dr Lee in person and have witnessed first hand his professionalism and demeanor to someone he operated on. We need more people like him on this than celebrities in my opinion.
Notice that he very rarely uses the word "never" to be absolute certain about something, instead he uses "rarely, usually, most likely" etc. He is a true scientist.
Gentlemen like Dr. Leonard Lee are the reason I listen to medical experts for advice instead of laypersons who spew nonsensical cures and misinformation on social media.
Man, 127 Hours is a nightmare. Things happening to the limbs and digits is the stuff that makes me shiver the most. Had I been in Aron's position, I think I would have just died. I do not think I could have been able to amputate my own arm, even to save my life.
An old high school acquaintance of mine had the unfortunate situation being part of the slim statistic of her body rejecting her first heart transplant. She's in her second transplant now, so far so good.
They did such a great job with 127 Hours! I listened to his book on Audible, then went back and watched the movie, it's practically word for word, and the part of him cutting his arm off was exactly the way he described it in the book. I could feel my own arm reacting to it. Was super creepy!
I actually had a freak accident where I broke my arm and the bone snapped so my bone was pressing against the nerve and I would describe the touching of the nerve the exact same as he did in the book (not sure about cutting the nerve as I never experienced that.)
Finally a surgeon (even better, a cardiac surgeon) who's not self-absorbed and idiotic. He actually takes the time to explain the scenes and treats us a capable audience. Simply amazing.
My mother had her gall bladder removed in 1979. For a couple of weeks afterwards she would cry in her sleep and we would have to gently awaken her. She was dreaming that people were standing around her laughing while she slept and that she couldn't wake up. I believe she must have had some degree of awareness during her surgery that she afterwards forgot.
The Movie Awake scared me because the guy was freaking out and was aware when he was supposed to be under anesthesia. When I had to have emergency surgery that’s all I could think about.
I love the way he describes very complicated procedures and terminology, in a way that anyone can understand. He talks in a clear, calm, and precise manner. He exudes professionalism.
My father straight up woke up in the middle of surgery not that long ago to people literally panicking and running around and shouting at each other he then fell back asleep, he's ok also.
my mother had surgery on her back that she was awake for - she screamed that she could feel it but they said she was lying and continued the surgery. it was one of the most traumatic things my mother has been through. and after the surgery they realised that she did in fact feel it and their resposne was "sorry"
My first surgery was done with a Da Vinci, a 6 hour Nissen Fundoplication. Just 5 small scars, then I have had 3 more since then with more surgeries coming in the future.

Great video overall, but I would just like to point out the fact that the consensus has changed over the past few years, and that the appendix is no longer generally classed as a vestigial organ (in my experience). It serves as a reservoir for gut flora.
My sister had her appendix removed after it was infected and actually tore. Her digestion has changed, she said. More gas is produced. But otherwise she's okay, luckily.
More, more; we want more 😀! This presenter is excellent: conveying targeted information and reasoned judgments, with a calm and collegial manner. Good for him! I wish him and his family all success and peaceful and serene lives. ❤️
Fun fact DaVinci also makes reading equipment for seniors and people with bad vision. Good luck with customer support though you might as well call me.
Surgery is still extremly painful, painkillers and opiates just reduces the pain a bit, I had abdominal surgery and I had 10/10 pain for 3 days after the surgery
The Dr is wrong about the appendix. The appendix isn't *useless*, it's *vestigial.* Vestigiality is what occurs when a structure is no longer needed, and thus there's no evolutionary pressure for it to develop, so over time it has a tendency to atrophy - as it costs energy and nutrients to maintain it, so it becomes an evolutionary advantage for it to shrink. However, vestigial structures can take on new functions. The appendix is a great example of this; its original function is lost, but it has a new function now as a reservoir of gut bacteria, to help repopulate the gut with the necessary bacteria to allow for digestion in the case that something happens to the bacteria in our intestines.
2:21 I woke up during my ACL operation and asked the person standing next to me why do I feel there is a washing machine on my left thigh? (I remember using those words). He was a bit surprised and said it's torniquet. Then I saw a screen to my left where they were drilling a bone, I felt a weird vibration, my teeth made a sound like I would have had cold. At that point I realised that's me, my bone what they are drilling. Also the "washing machine" on my thigh started to hurt too much so I asked for some soothening, the dude next to me placed a mask on my nose and mouth... and more I don't remember...
I woke up during a knee surgery. I remember waking up shivering and wiggling around saying "Im cold Im cold" then the doctor saying "stop moving its gonna be okay" then I guess he dosed me some more cause thats all I remember
