      Sleep! Being well rested helps a lot with getting things done and thinking clearly enough to organize my time. When I'm sleepy during the day, I find myself floundering and fighting off sleep.

    • @dianeo
      @dianeo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am not a morning person so I try to do things the night before to save time in the morning such as: Pick out clothes/jewelry to wear, pack a lunch, etc. so I'm not wasting time trying to make decisions in a grumpy, morning fog.

      @@dianeo yes!!! I'd rather sleep enough and get up later than forcing myself to get up super early while bot having enough sleep. My productivity goes downhill with not enough sleep 😂

    I always carry a small sketch book with me when I'm out, so if I am waiting for an appointment, or waiting for food, I can pull it out and I just sketch something that's near me "this cute lil doughnut needs to be drawn".

    My problem is..i have too much to do in a day atleast too much for my capability. Sometimes i get time but energy is just all gone. Managing college, my mental health, my art, the 100 chores at home (because in my household no one really does help with ANY work at all besides me and my mom), my stretching&exercises, sleeping properly, taking care of my lovely cat, praying, my meditation, and my love for reading is so strong i just have to read something in a day. Journaling, keeping up with my friends, practicing my piano and guitar skills and lastly, a part time job i need to start by next month. Fitting all these things in a day and some days being worse and busier than the others?😂yeah i.. don’t even know how to manage them anymore it’s too exhausting and at the end of the day i don’t even get enough time to sleep. I wish i lived with a family that was appreciative and supportive, not one i had to carry on my shoulders and watch them call me useless and good for nothing, or could live alone.

    i realised recently that writing a todo list is really important for me, im in school and normally i would just look in my bujo to see when the assignments are due and then decide if im gonna work on it. i am a really big procrastinator so i always get really stressed in the end. now i started writing todo lists for the week and add throughout it things. i also have a daily todo list consisting of things on the list. because i have both lists i see that if i don’t do sth today i won’t be able to do it tomorrow because of other things i have to do.

    I like your channel. It really helps to get clear vision of what I want to do and how to achieve it. All suggestions are great: prioritization, cutting off time consuming not important things. I think that not rushing up, doing your best every day knowing your limits, preserving enough time for sleep. As it is said for any domain we are growing during our sleep time. Growing means getting progress for me in a chosen domain of activity.

    Time Theming really clicked for me because sometimes I feel guilty that I can't "juggle" all my hobbies at the same time. But if I dedicate one day exclusively to reading, it's guilt-free, I'm only reading that day and tomorrow I'll do something else. It's brilliant.

      Yes!! Don't forget to actually schedule time to relax! If you only work, it's normal to feel distracted at some point and at the end burned out! So what I found is I'd rather focus on something for 2 hours for example and then I take a break. So I don't work non stop while my attention span and productivity decreases. That's why deep work + time to relax is key!

    What an awesome pep talk! I keep having to deal with big household projects that cut into my time to paint, and I often end up with no time or energy left for watercolors. On the other hand, I feel like I’d be irresponsible if I didn’t complete a room makeover, preparing for the holidays, or something basic like getting the vacuuming done because I was indulging a hobby. Still, most days I do make it a priority to do something watercolor-related as soon as I come home, BEFORE I get involved with the other stuff. 😸

    It’s very difficult to say no.......
    It’s also difficult finding commission work I find if you are a self taught artist as people look for the qualification and not the art.
    I prioritize my art 100% but yes, it’s difficult when things crop up - it’s hard to say, “ok I’ve got to go as I’d rather be drawing than talking with you” 😃😁😁😁
    Good tip about google calendar and keeping distractions away from you.
    I love your videos Mako 😊👍

    • @Makoccino
      @Makoccino  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think it's more difficult to find commission work especially now with social media! As long as you have a portfolio of things that you produced over the time, you work will speak louder than your qualification on paper!
      You don't have to say that you leave because you'd rather be doing something else 🙈 You can simply say that it was nice to seeing / talking to the person but you gotta go. You don't have to explain yourself! If they do, you can say you have some work to do that needs to get finished today, but you'd love to meet up/talk/etc soon again. I think as long as you value your own time, others will value your time as well! I think they will rather admire your ambition and how disciplined you are and be happy to support you!

    • @ArtistRebeccaLS

      makoccino I think I need you as my mentor 😍😍😍
      It’s very difficult for me to find commission work due to being self taught........ every website I tried joining is no good (upwork, guru,) all want qualifications....... 😖
      I am aiming for good quality clients, but it’s a catch 22, good clients are on good websites requiring art qualifications.
      Maybe I must just stick to growing my art TH-cam channel and see if I can get interest that way
      Thanks so much for replying 😍👍

    I have noticed that when it comes to art and time management, it also depends if I have inspiration or right set of mind to be creative.. and sometimes when I make time for art I just do not feel inspired.. but then inspiration just comes while I am busy with something else.. 🤣

    • @Makoccino
      @Makoccino  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah I totally get it! That's why relying on inspiration or motivation isn't always helpful! If you have deadlines for example you can't just sit and wait inspiration. Sometimes you actually have to sit down and start creating something! In those moments your ideas can actually start flowing! And if you have ideas that come when you do other things, that's great too! Write them down and then go work on them when you planned on working on your ideas!

  • @Itzbaddieclara

    Hi Mako! Two videos back(the video where you talked about how to stop watercolour paper from buckling) I commented saying that I wanted to use dry brushing to create a simple background because I didn't want to waste a lot of time creating an amazing, ''out of the crowd'', "never seen before" kind of backgrounds in one of my GCSE Art pages and you suggested saying that dry brushing would be better to use to create things like grass, so I could try out other cool techniques like salt and plastic wrap. I tried the salt technique following your video showing how you could use salt to create an interesting effect and I completely messed it up(and YES I tried it on another piece of paper, but I couldn't get the required results because I don't have any watercolour paper or mixed media paper). Now I completely regret this decision and the completely white background looked so much better and I absolutely don't know what I'm going to do with it. So I watched the video you made a while back on how to fix mistakes with watercolours. You said to use the 'magic eraser'. I want to take immediate action on removing the watercolour completely because everytime I open my sketchbook to work on something that page just gets me, it is so disgusting to look at, so I want to ask you if I can use a tissue and a damp brush and rub both of them at the same time in a circular motion in the same area( cause apparently you can do that according to Google, but I want a confirmation from a pro, so that's why I'm asking you.) It would be so amazing if could please help me out with this messy situation. I want to get this over with!😠😠😠😠 Love you Mako!💙💙

    • @Makoccino
      @Makoccino  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aww I'm sorry it didn't work out the way you want it! What some artists actually do they cut out a piece of paper and tape it on top of the area they don't like and then paint over it! Is this something that would work for you as well?

    • @Itzbaddieclara
      @Itzbaddieclara 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, the thing is yeah that I had already done all my drawings and annotations and my teacher said I have a lot of white going on in the background and in Art we try and avoid all that white space, so she told me to go in with watercolour and add some colour to it and that's when I asked you what I could do. So the paint is all over the page, its not just in one or two sections and I don't think I would be able to use the method you said to remove it. Anyways thanks for the idea though. I might be able to use it in the future(who knows what the future is holding for us?) Love you Mako!!💙💙

      I'm glad you liked it! Yes I totally get that! I sometimes plan out things but they take way too long or something important happens that you couldn't plan for that. So that's why it isn't that helpful to micromanage your time where you have one task after another without any space in between for whenever something comes up or takes longer!
      Sometimes we are also not realistic about how long something takes and fall behind with our todo list. So this is something that needs to be tracked as well and then planed accordingly.
      It's also great to have some goals for the week. So you could have 3 goals that you need to focus on for the whole week.
      And then you can break them down into smaller tasks, block out time for them during the week and be disciplined about focusing on them. When something very important pops up, of course you would need to focus on that instead. But having a time frame where you know you should be working on xy, helps to stay on track and focused.
      If you only know you should be doing something that day without a clear plan or time frame, it's a lot easier to waste time, get distracted and just lose sight of where you're actually going with all of that! I hope this helps!
      This topic is very broad so I couldn't cover everything plus I learn what works best for me, but in general showing up and doing the work is the most important thing at the end of the day!

    • @WhattheBeck
      @WhattheBeck 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Chris With Luv you could try having a goal of drawing a certain number of sketches instead of making one really refined one. its more practice, and because you make lots of sketches, even if you dont like one enough to make it a full drawing it will have helped you practice

    • @Makoccino
      @Makoccino  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, having a goal can definitely help because then you wouldn't just stare at a blank page, but already have a plan on what you want to practice this day. You can also have a list of ideas you can refer to and just have fun practicing! No one creates something awesome at the first attempt so it's normal! Just keep going!

    Being partially disabled is a two-fold problem for doing art. 1. All I want to do is be left alone, sit and create. 2. It takes me FOREVER and a day to do housework so it's like as soon as I'm done, the whole house needs to be done again, so..what time? Where is there time to do art? I cannot consciously have fun when there are things to be done. It sucks.

    • @Makoccino
      @Makoccino  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know the feeling when there are things that need to be done before you can have fun! Have you thought about hiring someone who could help you with your housework? I'm sure there are a lot of people happy to help out and earn some extra money while you can focus on what brings you joy. Maybe there are ways how you could get some additional money to be able to pay for help? I don't know how the regulations are where you are, so these are just some of my ideas! I know some people who have support in their homes with different things, like cleaning, buying food, cooking, etc. Some people pay it themselves, and some others use payments that are covered by different institution!

    My problem really seems to be that learning to paint seems such a big thing to me that I'm worried about messing up so bad I don't have the heart to get started. So I keep putting it off with other things. It's something I've always wanted to do though. If that makes any sense at all.

    This has been bugging me since I watched this the other day. “Spend less time at the grocery store” and “spend less time making food” is some of the worst time management advice I have ever heard. It’s downright destructive. Artists and creative types already have a habit of not taking care of themselves. Please don’t encourage deepening this behavior. Art requires sacrifice, like not hanging out with friends every day. It does not mean neglecting the care of one’s self.

    • @Makoccino
      @Makoccino  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Oh, I'm sorry it came off the wrong way! What I was trying to say is that because sometimes it can take a lot of time to cook and you don't have a plan on what you should eat, you rather go for something unhealthy because it's quick! And I'm all about taking care of my health by eating healthy and exercising! So what I found works best for me is to look into healthy recipes, get enough groceries in one go and precook for a few days in advance so whenever I'm hungry, I already have food that is waiting for me! The goal is to make sure you take care of yourself while being efficient with your time! That's why I said if it takes too long for you to cook but you would rather spend more time on something else, doing meal preps helps to eat healthy and to save time!

      makoccino I totally agree! My main hot meal is lunch, not dinner, so I prepare my meals for the week on Sunday and spend zero time M-F wondering what I’ll have for lunch each day. Makes the morning routine much easier, too!
