      Hey doctor I'm from New York and I just have a quick question I have bells palsy and I wanted to know if bells palsy does it have to do with herpes

    • @DrBretPalmer
      @DrBretPalmer  ปีที่แล้ว

      @oliverrando6463 Sometimes bells palsy can be caused by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), which is also know as Human Herpes Virus 4.
      So Herpes is not a common cause for it, but can cause it, EBV is more likely.
      I hope this helps.

    Free testosterone is usually a calculated value, worked out from total testosterone and SHBG levels. So why would a doctor test SHBG if free testosterone is low? They would already have the SHBG value.

    • @DrBretPalmer
      @DrBretPalmer  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi David, great question.
      To my knowledge approximately 98% of the testosterone the body produces is bound to either sex-hormone binding globulin (SHBG), or albumin. This is referred to as “bound testosterone.” The 2% that's left is known as “free testosterone.” I don't know if someone albumin is high or low or how much it may affect the free testosterone. Either way, good to have all the levels so you have a more fuller picture.
      I hope this is useful. Kind regards

      @@DrBretPalmer Thanks. The point I was trying to make was that the SHBG result is used to calculate free testosterone, so your statement at 3:02 makes no sense - 'the next test your doctor can do is to measure your SHBG' - that test would have already been done.

    • @DrBretPalmer

      @davidwade2565 hi David, that is true. In the UK if you order a testosterone test you will only get this reported and the SHBG won't be automatically reported.
      I know this as that's what I ordered for a patient a while ago and asked why the SHBG wasn't reported.... I thought was a bit mad to be honest. Comes down to how your lab reports its results.

      @@DrBretPalmer Was it an NHS lab?

      @DrBretPalmer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @davidwade2565 yeap.
      But most NHS lab are privately run, so do this to charge twice maybe?
      Before privatisation of the labs this BS didn't happen so much.

      @@DrBretPalmer I don't believe you need props or that kind of thumbnail to legitimise the information. If it's factual, it can stand on it own merits.

      Thank you for the feedback.
      The thumbnail is designed to get people to click on it. But my thumbnail style hasn't quite settled down yet as still haven't decided whether to use photo of me or another type of photo.

      @@DrBretPalmer I understand your choice in thumbnail, but in my humble and utterly worthless opinion, it cheapens the presentation.
      I clicked because of the title not the thumbnail.
      But hey, good luck with your channel. If you continually produce accurate, well presented, up to date and proven information, you'll find a regular audience here.
