This Westin is so storied on my end. I’ve stayed here 6 previous times dating all the way back to 2007, and my last four stays have dated to December 2014, where the hotel itself was renovated in early 2014. It looks WAYYYY better than it used to, especially the lobby and the rooms! I’m staying here again in April.
Cool video! Nice-looking hotel too! I definitely intend to visit that observation deck if I ever get to return to Atlanta after a 12 and a half year absence so far. I typed this comment in early February of 2021, and want to try to visit Atlanta in March of 2021 so I hope the pandemic didn't shut down the observation deck..
The Delta Flight museum is putting an Elevator in there future Boeing 747 exhibit it might be something cool to check out in the near future when it opens up in 2017
I should probably get back to Atlanta soon. I was here back in 2010 and this was where I stayed. It was cheap only because of the renovations and the tornado damage this building had at the time
When the one guy says that for a time the hotel was the tallest in the world he may be correct but only barely. There is an exact duplicate of the Peachtree in Detroit and their heights are virtually identical. The Peachtree may have edged the one in Detroit out due to which entrance was used. For example, the Sears Tower in Chicago used to list it's official height as 1,454 ft. However, the tower had entrances on multiple streets and they used the lowest street to add a few feet to the building's height. Now they use the main entrance to record the height and since that entrance is 4 feet higher than the lower one, the building's official height is now 1,450 ft. The same scenario occurred with the Peachtree in Atlanta.
I had a Thyssenkrupp tech take me up to the roof to see the machine room for these. These have Elevonic 411M controllers and 219HT machines that can go at the same speed as the main ones but they thought it was too fast.
So what was the main stadium they used during the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games? I'm just curious... You know; where they had the opening and closing ceremony at?
What I found really cool is how the Westin Peachtree compares to the central tower of the Renaissance Center in Detroit They share almost the exact same design They're both in the 720s in terms of feet high They're both hotels (One's a Westin, the others a Marriot) And they were built one year apart (Renaissance Center in 1977, Westin Peachtree in 1976 Here you can see what I mean: skyscraperpage.com/diagrams/?searchID=81912512&page=2

Awesome vantage point of the city, wow! Never been to ATL but obviously the Westin there shares some similarity to the Ren Cen here in Detroit.

+The Elevator Channel Haha, the most luxury hotel you can find, that's hotel industry at its finest
We originally thought about staying there tbh. But we found out what the price of this place was. I forgot what though it was 6 years ago
I know, right? lol
Exactly! It's such a nice hotel, you wanted 4 rooms just so you could see how freaking horrible it is!

Wow Beautiful
So the Atlanta streetcars share the road with cars like the McKinley Bridge did when it first opened?
So what was the main stadium they used during the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games? I'm just curious... You know; where they had the opening and closing ceremony at?
Turner Field
I was there in July 4 2002 ultimately awesome
The elevators at the time were Lexan!
at 5:20 i see a running track on top of a building. what is building called?
It's the Georgia Pacific building's parking deck
This must have been done during the winter with all the steam coming off the roofs of various buildings.
