  • Once upon a time, there was a young man who absolutely loved elevators. In 1988 the young man was in his classroom reading a magazine about the Marriott Marquis hotel in Atlanta. He then glanced at the cart and saw a video camera. Ever since then, he had a dream to go film the elevators in that hotel. In 1993 (exactly 30 years ago from today), that dream became a reality. He got to film not only film the Marriott, but also the Hilton and the Hyatt too. The young man would come up with a very unique concept called elevator photography. Today, he is known on TH-cam as ‪@DieselDucy‬ and within the next 30 years, he would be famous over the internet over his videos of elevators, not only by other people who loved elevators, but the elevator companies too. The young man and those other people who loved elevators would create a so called community. Many wanted to meet the young man, see the famous elevators of Roanoke, and his very own elevator museum. He became a role model for those on the autism spectrum, where a lot of those who loved elevators have just like the young man. As well to let them know just because you have autism, it doesn't mean you can't live a happy life. The young man never thought taking his love for elevators would make a huge impact on many people.
Andrew, you're a true inspiration to everyone who has loved elevators, and if it weren't for you, many people (including myself who also has autism) would not have made some of the bestest of friends they've ever had. I can’t thank you enough for it. I once thought I was the only one who loved elevators, but I was proved wrong many years ago. Congratulations on going 30 years of elevator photography.
Anyways I had a similar dreams to film these elevators at the Westin. I did have dreams to film the other three famous elevators in town as well, but that happened back in 2019. I could not get on the glass elevators in the Westin though. In 2023, I finally got to see those. They are only 500 fpm, but still 72 floor scenic elevators is something you don't see everyday. Those three hotels you see out the window is where it all started on June 5th, 1993.
