    I'm serious when I say that this is the best video I've ever seen about business! And I've watched many videos, and read many books and articles about business but it's something about how you broke it down for us. I appreciate that. Thank you for your wisdom in the industry!

    Also any business expenses count as a tax write off, so even if you don't HAVE to pay taxes on your company, it might be worth it for the write offs if you find your spending a lot of money on your business.

    I set up my business a while ago. Never been more proud of myself, apart from other amazing achievements.
    My question is, How would I be able to publish my books online and in retail outlets, with my business name inside my books? So the consumers not only know I am the Author, but I am the business manager of the said company printed on the book!
    Thank you kindly for the video, Kristen.

    also brick and mortar stores prefer to deal with publishers rather than authors for putting books on a shelf. Also forming a publishing company after years of writing.

    Question if you can respond. Just published my 1st children picture book ' The Greener Pond' on Amazon. Surprise; the menial royalties will not even cover the cost of publishing the book over a long time. Does own publishing company give more control over sales, and isn't the same platform on which publishers sell book. How does a small publishing house sells books?

    So I'm a few steps away from filing the paperwork. Just wondering, how did you go about making your logo and did you have to copywright your logo separate from the name? Also, does createaspace allow you to put your publishing companies info on the book and is that extra? Thanks.

    • @AuthorKristenMartin
      @AuthorKristenMartin  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hi Adam,
      There are quite a few websites where you can create your own logo - Design Mantic is one of them. I did not have to copyright my logo separate from the name. And yes, CreateSpace does allow you to put your publishing company's information on the book at no extra charge. Hope that helps!

  • @adammarkk

    Kristen, I would like to start my own book publishing company, but not with my books having at least one or two authors. I want to only accept Horror genres, but be an traditional publish author with penguin random house or simon & schuster can I do that be a traditional publish author with penguin random house and then be a publisher on the side accepting other authors manuscripts of horror genres only?

    • @AuthorKristenMartin

    I am thinking about creating my own publishing company. I just don't want to give up so much of my profit. I'd rather get the book printed and ship them myself. What did you chose to do? Do you just use CreateSpace to print for books or do you use another company?

    Kristen went to the secretary of state to file. I also view the site to get the EIN number but I had to save and go back to it. My question to you is, They ask about how many members do you have. Do you have to have members to get the Ein number?

    • @AuthorKristenMartin

      Not if you file as a single-member LLC, which is what I did :) You'll get your EIN number right away.

    Hiii!! I've been binge-watching your videos since the beginning of this year and a bunch of them have randomly popped in my feed (though clearly not in chronological order) so I've looked at some from years ago like this one. Are you still using this publishing company you created and is it a service your provide to others or have you changed your MO since this video? Much Love :)

    • @AuthorKristenMartin

      Hi there! Thank you for the kind words and for watching my videos! To answer your question, I still use this publishing company for my books, but I do not offer publishing services through it to other authors. It's not something I plan to do in the future anymore (my business has taken a slightly different direction). 🙂

    Hi. You're so informative. I have a question. What made you go with self publishing instead of paying for a publisher? will a publisher assist you in marketing your book into book stores like amazon or to create a buzz about your book?

    • @AuthorKristenMartin
      @AuthorKristenMartin  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you :) I originally did want to go the traditional publishing route and was even talking with a couple of agents, but in the end, I did my research and self-publishing was a better option for me and my personal goals at that point in my life. Publishers can assist you in marketing your book, but nowadays, a lot of the marketing and promotion is up to the authors themselves, whether they are traditionally or self-published.

    • @HEALTHNHAPPINESS

      Kristen Martin Thank you very much. I think I will do it myself. Plus the pride of doing it myself will be greater.

    and you just used create a space to make your hard copy books and e-books as well?

    • @AuthorKristenMartin
      @AuthorKristenMartin  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, you can only get paperback copies through CreateSpace. If you want hardcover, you have to go through IngramSpark. For e-book, you have to choose a platform like KDP Select, Kobo, etc. I went with KDP Select (which is another Amazon owned company) and I am very happy with them!

    So the sos.gov sites only give company names in you state so other companies in other states would be able to have the same name?

    • @AuthorKristenMartin
      @AuthorKristenMartin  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since business names are registered on a state-by-state basis, yes it is possible for companies in other states to have the same name. However, domain names are not on a state-by-state basis, and almost every company needs a website nowadays. So if you register yourwebsite.com, .net, .org, and .info , then whoever else has your same company name is out of luck and will have to come up with a different domain name. The best way to avoid this is to search the sos.gov site and then Google it. If nothing comes up, then most likely, your company name is unique and not being used in another state.

    • @sozanerdified2643
      @sozanerdified2643 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kristen Martin ah, thanks a lot. I've been debating between self publishing and I feel like if I do choose it this would be the best way to go about it. I learned slot thanks!

    How did I land over here when searching for AppNana hacks? Anyway, Visual Mind (not that the name is going to help much, because they are hard to find in Google) will set up a really nice publishing environment for what Kristen mentions in her video. I came across their ad on WordBotic site. So maybe try Googling that if you don't have any luck with their name. Just my two cents. Back to the other side of Google. lol

    • @joshteale5976
      @joshteale5976 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was bugging me not remembering the site. I Google'd Wordbotic and found Wordbotic and Beyond site. I actually got both names wrong. Smh. It's Visible Mind, not visual. And, I managed to find the ad which is still there. I grabbed the link to the Visible Mind people for you: goo.gl/ciWbq3 (I guess I couldn't post the raw url on here. Oh well, there's the Google short url for it.) Hope that helps. I'm out.
