So many people talk diversity but when you SHOW it in who you collaborate with and what projects you undertake it speaks volumes. Impressive women and company!
We completely agree, there has been a lot of talk on this issue and sadly not enough action, though the industry is beginning to take action bit by bit. Valerie is a real believer in making things happen, we all are. Thanks for your comment!

Oh wow! I've been looking at The Book of Harlan and keep thinking that I want to buy it. Now I want it even more! What a great video! I'm going to love this series.
I'm really looking forward to the rest of this video series. I study publishing at university and I just love seeing how the industry works from the inside. The Book of Harlan sounds so great, I'm definitely pre-ordering it!
Good luck with your publishing degree it is definitely useful to get some insight behind the scenes. University can provide some great opportunities for networking, internships etc so it is worth checking out what is available to you. So glad you will be reading The Book of Harlan, hope to hear what you think!

Wow, what a thoughtful video! So interesting to see this side of the industry. From Pasta to Pigfoot sounds really relevant.
It reminds me, have you read any of Sandra Kasturi's poems? She started her own publishing company with her husband in Canada (they're both authors and editors too) and her poems seem like they would be JUST up your street, Jen! Her first collection was introduced by Neil Gaiman. Mythical and dark and political and their publishing company focuses on anything "too weird for big publishers."

I am desperately looking for a publishing company / literary agent for my book (which is based in South Africa) but I need the right one.. everyone of them is so different and I want to make sure mine gets to who I really want it to. Have such a lot of research to do! But Jacaranda sound great and look like a wonderful group of people.... fingers crossed!

Hi Jacaranda, I have had a look on your website and have the details for submitting which I am very excited to do. I have been having some computer problems and lost my detailed synopsis so I need to take some time to rewrite that and make sure it's good enough to send with the first 2 chapters then you'll be hearing from me :) How long / detailed would you prefer the synopsis as I previously had a short one paragraph synopsis and a 3 page one too. I do like that you like Africa as a subject as my book in based in South Africa, in a small coastal town in the Garden Route. I've worked so hard on it since 2012 and cannot wait to get it out there. Hi CE, our books are available on a number of online sites internationally and the majority are available throughout the world and we have specific distribution to most bookstores in the US, UK, Europe and Africa. Jen is right, if you try any English language bookshops they should be able to order in our books, and the Book Depository link she has used is great for International orders. If in doubt, feel free to contact us by email or social media.
