"The spirit renders a man meek by removing from him all possible obstacles to justice and piety. The meek one remains ever ready to act in the pursuit of justice. Meekness is the mark of a man who has been justified by God."
    -ST I-II Q. 69 a 3.
Justice (Aquinas 101) - Fr. Aquinas Guilbeau, O.P.

To follow the worldly definition of meekness means that you’ll be a doormat or a pushover. I couldn’t understand why it was a virtue.
    -
Now, pairing meekness with justice and piety, I can better understand why God had said that the ‘meek shall inherit the earth’.
    -
Thanks for clarifying that the worldly definition of meekness it different from the beatitude of meekness.

    Wonderful video!
Could you make a video tackling Just War Theory, synthesising a Biblical/Philosophical Perspective.
    Many Thanks

We don't have immediate plans for a Just War video, but you might look into the writings of the Thomist from the Salamanca school, Francisco de Vitoria, O.P.

Is there anywhere where the Aquinas 101 videos are available in transcript or written form? Thanks

At the moment, the transcripts are not published anywhere online. We may look into doing so if it would be helpful. The recommended reading for each video, however, is available at Aquinas101.com.

If you click on the 3 dots under the video there is a "Show Transcript" button. It has time stamps and might not be totally accurate but could easily be copied and corrected!

Thank you for your videos very informative.
I noticed a video The Second Coming Thursday this week.
Since the 1st century Christians have thought the Second Coming was soon; then the Black Death then WW 1 and WW 2 all thought the end of the world plus other world events.
It goes without saying everyone thinks the Second Coming is soon even in our times.....
My question do you think present day Lawlessness; revolt; rebellion and rage as St.Paul's description of the Man of Lawlessness final anti Christ could be on the scene in the coming days or at least setting the stage for the coming of the Son of Perdition.
The reason I say this there seems to be a great falling away from the true catholic faith or a great apostasy.

You should watch Fr. Richard Ounsworth's lecture, if you haven't! I don't know what to expect next, but we Dominicans have always tried to prevent any great fallings away through preaching and study. Remember us in your prayers.

Benedicite Dominus. Any insights on why II-II, q. 79 is "quasi-integral"? What is the difference between a part, an integral part, and a quasi-integral part?

I saw a book called Summa of the Summa. Is that a good place for a lay person to start reading Aquinas?

I would suggest Edward Feser's book called "Aquinas: For Beginners." It's simple, clear, and straight forward. A read for levels of all kind.

Both Kreeft (Summa of the Summa) and Feser's (Aquinas: A Beginner's Guide) books are great starting points. Together with Aquinas 101, you will be able to develop a solid foundation in Thomistic thought.

Hi @thomisticinstitute, I am having trouble locating in the Summa your quote about meekness, justice and piety. Meekness as the mark of a man justified by God doesn't seem to be in I-II q.69, a3. Could you point me to the reference please?
