Temperance is the virtue that forms or shapes a person's character so that the person uses pleasurable things in the right amounts at the right times, in the right way, and for the right reasons.
When St. Thomas talks about temperance, he is not only talking about moderating in ways that serve personal and public health, rather, he has in mind the supernatural forms of these virtues. He is talking about temperance that leads to holiness, union with God, and eternal life.
Temperance (Aquinas 101) - Fr. James Brent, O.P.

I've temperance almost mastered. I love being at home now more and because it's winter here in Australia I find great comfort in being in my little abode. I go to Mass every day and I say the Rosary prayer with the parishioners before Mass and I will continue to do this for the rest of my life. I do love my Vienna coffees and my once a day piece of chocolate. I gave up cafes and food courts recently and ordering take away Chinese on Friday nights. I will save a packet by doing so and also I love eating and cooking at home now. I just have to watch myself when it comes to my temper. I move away quickly from the thing which provokes it now or sometimes I don't venture to places where I get stressed. This is where stoic fortitude needs to be practised. I am making progress. 📿😇

modesty; unknown to american women; such that to suggest modesty is now chastized. thank you for reminding me of this timeless virtue in what is the real tradition of western civilization; and not the confusing depravity we witness daily in america now.

This was such a good explanation. I never understand that temperance was related to moderating pleasure. Admittedly I have struggled with pornographic pleasures for 47 years, ever since I found my father's adult magazines in my father's closet when I was about 7 years old.

Surprisingly, kids love brocolli. All four of mine love brocolli, including the baby. I teach, and when I mentioned to my high schoolers that I hate brocolli, they overwhelmingly stated that they love it. Totally boggles my mind!
Not a knock on you guys at all. I just can't believe how many people young and old like brocolli so much. God bless!

The desire for sex is actually easier to deal with than the love of food. You can stop having sex, but you will always have to eat.

Exceptional video as all of these have been significantly beneficial for anyone to gain knowledge by and lead an improved life as a result and blessing.
I appreciated reviewing the ancient ways we all can access and put to work in us and hone all our virtues with these teachings.
I find these instructions are a relic of lessons that remain ever baroque as they are priceless.

It's survival. Our ancestors sought out sweet fat and salty things because they had the most calories. But now, with an overabundance of it and high concentration, we have to control ourselves.

People have used sex to connect with the divine. Not for the lust but for the communion of two bodies and the spirit. Alcohol and other substances have also been used in rituals.
