- I tuned my F85 BMW X5M with Protuning Freaks, Bootmod3 Stage 1 91 Octane OTS software.
The driveability was great. Smooth around town and aggressive when you need the power. I can feel the torque being delivered beyond 4,000 rpms and it shoves you through the seat. I feel like it should've came from the factory this way!

Just built a 2021 X5M, 600hp, 558lbs torque, running 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds, 11.9 seconds quarter mile, no tune at all. Straight from the SC factory with those stats. Absolutely beast of an amazing SAV.
They are amazing SUVs. Also keep in mind I’m on 91 octane. With 93 fuel it should be even faster!
So running 93 octane allows more HP. What about fuel additives?
@@roberthoward9482 fuel additives won’t increase HP, but rather keep your injection system cleaner. There is even higher octane fuel by VP in the states, but at $7 a gallon, you have to be careful when to utilize it or it will cost you. I’m running 93 octane recommended by BMW, especially for M cars.
Need to try brake boosting/launch control. Hold the brake apply the gas raise the rpm release brake while smashing the gas and let’s see what it can really do
Interesting video as usual. The factory numbers are 3.8 and 12.2 for the F85 but I have not hit that. 4.1 0-60 is the quickest I have hit with mine. Mine is completely stock.
How did you measure your 0-60? Dragy?

He's a pilot and upstairs he had this insane simulator setup as well. Even your cadence of speech is similar. Anyway, just the week ago actually not even a week ago I just picked up a new to me 2015 x drive 50i M Package. Almost every option, Executive Package, Cold Weather Package, Driver Assistance Plus Package, B&O Sound, HUD, and more. Absolutely love this vehicle. Getting it tuned this month. Was going to go with DME Tuning, Then found a tuner that will sell me BM3 Stage 2 complete with cable down pipes and everything for less than the price of a stage 1 DME! I had to do it 👌🏾👍🏾 I'm up here in Sacramento, I look forward to catching up with you. First round is on me, or if you don't drink whatever you drink is on me. The best part is, my beautiful Dutch, Irish, Jewish Redheaded Queen(wife), completely supports my addiction to cars and speed and tuning. In my driveway I have an X5 and also a Porsche Cayenne Turbo! I picked up my car last Friday and the 21’s staggered Front 285/35 R21 Rear 325/30 R21 plus the M Performance Exhaust is sick! LMAO!!! I’m loving it all around and am thinking other mods to upgrade it too! 1st on my list is more HP. I see a lot about performance chips and need to research more. I’m going to watch this video again with you tuning your X5. I’m also looking for the module that allows me to change the functionality with my BMW’s. Just bought my son a 328i for his 19th birthday!
Is M Performance exhaust standard on these or was it an option?
Thanks for another great video! I’ve got an F86 X6M (in Daytona Grey as well), running Stage 1 Bootmod3 and downpipes - absolute beast now and it completely transformed the car and sound. Are you planning downpipes or stage 2 or anything on yours?
Thank you! I would like downpipes but the problem is California. Strict emissions.

Nice test, I did mine with bm3 stage2 and high flow down pipe and intake. Pgear show about the same around 3.8 for 0-60.

I believe with the tune limits the boost in the first 3 gears so it doesn’t cause extra wear to your drive train

Hey Ed enjoy your videos....I have a 2015 BMW 750li with a bootmod3 tune and now I'm thinking about going with a lower temperature thermostat , do you think that will affect my tune anyway?

I had Bootmod3 on my F80 M3 and I liked the ease of use and the fact I could flash with my phone. Get a custom tune if I wanted. Data log.
Boost by gear. Etc
I decided to give it a try because the price was also good
I looked into Dinan first because they advertise 700hp but I realized the F85/86 are underrated at 650hp anyway. So you’re always getting around 50-60hp with any tune. Bootmod3 also has a 30 day money back, so If I getdidn’t like it I could get a refund.
Also like Dinan, JB4 are piggybacks. I know they work for some people but I did blow my engine with a piggyback on a different vehicle years ago.
I overall prefer flash tunes.
@@eddiemcars Ahh I see. Thanks for the detailed response. I'm actually in talks with a guy here in Florida about buying his '15 Laguna Blue X5M. It's in great shape. I just had BMW do the PPI and they only noted the brakes and rotors need to be replaced. Of course, they're not cheap to replace but I'm going to use that to bargain down the price. It has 45Kmi. Have you had experience with other rotor brands besides OEM BMW?

Hmm, that's kind of disappointing. I ran very close to your Stage 1 in my stock 21 X50i and 3.8 with the Racechip. This was when the weather was in the low 30s, so even traction was an issue. I would expect you to be mid 3s 0-60 and closer to mid 7s in the 1/8 and mid 11s in the 1/4.
@@88JAE88 Absolutely. I was just pointing out that I think his car should be faster and something may not be right with the tune.
I was impressed from where it came from. Also keep in mind. I’m on 91 octane and California grade fuel at that. Also, could be my driving 😂
I may do another one since I’ve put a few hundred miles on the tune and try out launch control!
@@eddiemcars Definitely try it with launch control! I'm sure it's going to put you in your seat even more. My 2016 X5 50i does 3.7s 0-60 with a JB4 piggy back on base map 1 & 91 oct.

@@eddiemcars Nice, I have no doubts that this is a mid 3 second car with a tune. Also, a good performance measure would be 60-130. I noticed you stopped just shy of 130 when you did the stock run. That would have been really useful to see how much power you gained taking the launch out of the equation.
I know we try not to put too much stress on the drivetrain constantly and doing launch control runs for TH-cam guys is not always fun.

It’s crazy how much the gas rating affects these cars so much. I got an 16 50i 93 stage 2 with catless dp. Ran about 3.6 to 60 without launch control.
They are sensitive to fuel

I would highly recommend Bootmod3. Very smooth power delivery! Drives like stock but with more!
Subbed! 2017 X5M here... just got it 2 weeks ago. Wanting to tune. Do you still run the Stage 1? How is the low end power boost? Looking to get into a tune that won’t cause extra wear... but will give me some more 🤯
You’ll love this tune then! It doesn’t launch crazy hard in first gear where I feel like I’m going to break stuff. However, once it gets into 2nd gear, you can feel the power significantly increased very linear feel. Overall, it feels like stock power with but with more mid/top power! During regular drives around town or cruising on the highway, you’d hardly know it’s there.
@@eddiemcars, thanks for the reply! That sounds great. I find the vehicle in general doesn’t like first gear. I try to not hammer first in any vehicle of mine over my days. Thanks for the tip! On FB a bunch of people have said have a custom tune done. Not so sure about that!
@@TheLemps2012 I’ve been content with my stage OTS stage 1 91. I think this tune somewhat mild, I know there’s more power on the table which I believe a custom tune should be able help. I heard Halim does great custom tuning and I may do that later down the road just to see if he could improve it even more.

Does this tune give option to get more burble? And after tuning do u have to change the plugs and oxygen sensors every so often?
There isn’t an option to customize burble like on the S55 and N55 engines
However there’s two stage two options. One with mild burble and the other with aggressive burble.
I listen closely and I don't know if I heard you say it or not in either videos but does this void the warranty? I have a 50i and want to do this as a local garage charges $500. I am a little weary on doing it myself but I also don't want to void the warranty.
A dealer cannot void your warranty based on just having the tune.
You only risk the powertrain being voided if blow a turbo or crack a piston. The dealer can blame the tune and void it.
If you brought it in because the tailgate wasn’t closing or something unrelated to the engine, they still have to honor it because a engine tune doesn’t affect that.
Damn did that say it dropped a half second off your quarter mile? Did I see that right? For a out the box tube that’s great
I later got a 3.5 second 0-60 (with 1ft roll out)

Thank you! I feel the additional cooling in Sport + mode does really well at keeping the temps down.
@@eddiemcars okay thanks man ill look into it! so whats your thoughts on cold start/warming up these engines? is it a myth? (obviously no redlining before its warm)
I wait 30 seconds. When the cold start is over and the rpms level, that’s my cue to shift it into gear and drive away. I keep the load/rpms low and gently bring it up to temp. Usually after 5 minutes good. Idling to warm up the engine for 10 min takes longer and can cause more wear and tear.
@@eddiemcars omg thank you so so much! so it actually is true with these new v8tt’s to not let them warm up too much, i just thought it took unsually long to warm up to normal temps when its idling from cold start.
Do you have that same issue? my other cars arent v8tt and doesnt take as long so i thought maybe its just a bigger engine and takes longer etc
@@addyb4337 yes it’s the larger engine. My 4 banger Civic is up to temp way before the X5 is!
Did you have to anything to unlock the DME, or check with PTF first that the DME was accessible? I've not found clear confirmation that the DME is always accessible/unlocked and if it is, what that entails. Did PTF have any insight here or was it just plug in and off you go, no DME issues?
No. Both the F80 and F85 didn’t require a bench unlock. The app was able to unlock it without a problem.
EM How many HP & Torque are you pushing with Stage 2 BootMod? What do you think about the chips that “allegedly” give you anywhere from 25-60HP.
I’m not sure. Bootmod3 gives a range estimate. I think 650hp is a conservative assumption.
Ed, could you tell me what your sport displays are showing now? I believe the stock ones show 640 HP?
Yes my stock showed 640hp and 560 tq
Right now it’s showing 800hp and 800tq
@@eddiemcars thanks. My flash counter is off by 1….and the shop thought the 640 was showing higher than stock as another clue it MAY or may not be tuned.
Why didnt u do it in m mode?? . Agee with what others are saying launch control. Awesome them launch way harder...

2011 bmw X6m I have aftermarket exhaust “Meisterchaft” but I want more pops and burples any ideas
I would look into a Custom tune to give you more pops or the AGG tune
not sure if your still active but does this void warranty?
Yes. This will void any powertrain warranty claims. However, it doesn’t affect your other things such as a sunroof leaking or a tailgate not closing correctly as this power upgrade has no affect whatsoever.

I’m not sure if it’s on the video but I have reached a bear time of 3.6 seconds!
crazy how much slower this is compared to my m340i. I do 3.3 to 60 and 11.4 to 1/4 mile.
It is crazy because with those times, that makes your M340 faster than the M3/M4 too.
Keep in mind though this SUV weighs more. My best time in this X5 M is 3.6 seconds to 60mph
1/4 mile 11.8 seconds.

Absolutely! I don’t think they do diesel but if it’s a gasoline engine like xDrive35i (N55) or xDrive50i (N63) you can. Make sure you purchase the one related to your engine code.

A few questions, will this work on a regular x5 and does this tune void the warranty?
bootmod3 works 35i and 50i as well, almost every tune void warranty except some that are approved by bmw, what I know Noelle does not void warranty.

You are correct.
However, that was with launch control and 93 octane. I’m on California grade fuel which is horrible. 91 octane is lower than most states which is closer to 89 than 91.

Hello , so how much was this tune with cables and accessories. What is the horsepower and torque ?
When I got mine tuned I asked the tuner about jb4 and bootmode...and his cringe face said it all. It's a beta app that anyone can change values to...unless you really know what you're doing I'd seriously just go see a good bmw tuner and get them to personalize a file just for your car.

@EM Cars I've done both kinds now...the custom tune through the obd and the second time (bmw erased my tune during service) I got the ecu removed and flashed on the bench. Now that I have intake and exhaust done I'll be going back in for a revision of the tune and to get my transmission tuned....I wasn't aware that we have the same trans and software as the F85......I love my tune...better fuel milage, better sound (pops and bangs) and I surprise alot of unsuspecting folks
