    I'm so glad to see someone pickup on the aesthetic issue with the 650 cfm version. I swapped out my trusty 530 for a 650, but I was instantly struck by how harsh and unpleasant the 650 sounded. To my ear, it almost sounds like a toy instead of a piece of upmarket consumer equipment. If the 580 has a proportional trigger, then I think I'll be swapping back to that model.

    I believe the new (and existing 18v) Milwaukee will maintain performance through most of the discharge; some (maybe all) of the egos start to degrade performance immediately in the pack discharge curve.

    • @Reaper-Jim
      @Reaper-Jim 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Impossible. Lithium batteries are what cause the reduction in performance, not the machine they’re powering.
      Consider the corded versions of these blowers, none of them experience any interruptions of performance.
      If you have a good battery pack … which Ego and Milwaukee both have … you’ll still experience discharge dips, just not as frequent or as harsh.

    • @improvedgarage
      @improvedgarage 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      as someone who uses the milwaukee weekly, i can definitely notice and hear a difference in performance when installing a new battery. A fully charged lithium cell is just under 4.2v per cell, during most of its operating life it is somewhere around 3.7v, most manufacturers consider a cell "dead" at 3.4v. Given this the only way i can see to have perfectly consistent performance would be to have some circuitry to limit pack output voltage to a number near the 3.4v per cell through the entire discharge, I doubt any manufacturers will ever do this because it hurts specs by almost 20%

    • @heeltoe6845
      @heeltoe6845 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Reaper-Jimompletely incorrect. You can limit the motor speed so that it only decreases once the battery gets below a certain voltage. watch project farm’s video on blower performance. Milwaukee maintains exactly 600cfm for 90% of the discharge.

    Looks like plenty of sales out there on a couple of these. $150 for 615 with 2.5 amp or $200 for 650 with 5 amp. I have no other ego equip and don’t plan on. Only use for me would be to dry my cars. Like the idea of light wt of 2.5 amp battery which is probably plenty to do my 911. My Tacoma might require a little more and since batteries are so expensive it might be better to just do the 650 with 5amp, so I will always have enough juice.

    Would be cool to test other blowers. Ego really seems to have a great rep. That being said, I’m already deep in the DeWalt, Ryobi, Milwaukee (m12) and Worx platforms and I have a corded powerful leaf blower, the cheap Dewalt small blower and an air compressor, so buying a blower and diving into a different platform makes no sense. So I ended up buying the little light weight Worx 40v Nitro blower that is supposed to put out 630 CFM and 125 mph. The thing is so small and light weight, I’m not 100% sure that those measurements are accurate, but I’ve already got 4 Worx batteries and 10+ Dewalt batteries (and some DeWalt to Worx adaptor).

    Posting this again since I think TH-cam stripped my comment for some reason. I'll try it without the weblink. Anyway, Matt, I'm bringing this back from the dead since it looks like the blower market may be evolving, especially for detailing. Ryobi has a new unit that is truly hand-held and puts out 220CFM. Not sure if you've seen it. I would post the link again, but I think that's why TH-cam stripped my last post. 220 CFM, 140mph, $150 with the battery/charger, rubber tips, 3-year warranty, and about 90 dB according to some reviews and roughly 11 min continuous run time (full speed). I may pick one up to try out for $150. I know the "Ryobi" brand may get mixed feelings, but I've owned a few of their products over the years and I've never had a problem with them. Could be a viable option for people that don't want to hold a larger "leaf blower" to dry off their vehicle.

    1:16 and 1:55 - The 18650 Lithium-Ion cells are described as "18mm in diameter and 650mm long" which you would think is the case. But for some silly reason the "650" actually describes 6,500 micrometers or 65 millimeters but doesn't describe "650" of anything. It really is baffling. If you think about it, 30cm is about 12 inches and 30cm is 300mm so these cells would have to be well over 2 feet long to be 650 millimeters.
    The 21700 is the same story. There is an extra zero there for some silly reason.
    Luckily Tesla did something right with their 4680 cells. Finally we have one of these cells named properly. And since then we've also started to call the 21700 cells "2170" instead, which is another step in the right direction.
    Oh the fun of battery cell naming. -_-

    • @Reaper-Jim
      @Reaper-Jim 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No. Incorrect. There are 3 codes within all lithium batteries, the first is diameter, the second in height and the third is for shape (cylinder or non-cylinder).
      For an 18650, it reads as follows:
      18mm diameter
      65mm height
      0 = cylinder
      For a 21700, it reads as follows:
      21mm diameter
      70mm height
      0 = cylinder
      😊😊😊

    • @BenFenner
      @BenFenner 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Reaper-Jim Thank you for corroborating my thesis. It makes sense the final zero denotes the shape, and it also makes sense that the 4680 cell forgoes that shape digit because it is obnoxious.

    Leaf blowers are, literally, a dime a dozen. You can pick up ANY leaf blower and it will work excellent to dry a vehicle. They’re practical and cheap … comparatively. Trying to argue which one is best is nonsense and ultimately pointless. They’re all good. YOU have to decide which one works best for you; corded, cordless, heavy or light weight, quieter or super loud, high CFM or lower CFM, stubby or stock extensions. Ego make excellent blowers … ALL of them. But so do others … yeah … all of them. Get one that serves you best.
    Note: Dedicated vehicle dryers (heated and non-heated) are largely pointless unless you’re installing them in a wash bay (the big blowers). If you’re not using the auto wash type blowers, get a leaf blower.
