Europe has already figured out a solution to this, this is completely unnecessary. They developed a scanner that can quickly tell which eggs are male and which are female and can separate them, so the male eggs never hatch to begin with, they just stay un-incubated eggs. This is not just much more humane, but it is also much more cost-efficient because you don't have to incur costs for incubating, feeding, staffing, manually identifying chicken sex, incurring a 50% loss of eggs/chicks, etc. With this technology, even the greediest business owner has zero excuse to be inhumane. Europe shows a lot of leadership in animal rights, we need to learn from them.
Imagine coming out of an egg, as a male chick, breaking your way out, expecting a mother hen, but when you come out, suddenly bad smell and bright lights shine your eyes, blinding you. Then, you are suddenly tossed into a crate, then dropped into conveyor belt, with other chicks, and thinking you’ll go to your mom, until you are dropped in a circular conveyor belt, then some guy suddenly picks you up and carelessly throws you into a grinder and five stacked macerators. You think its just a maze, but when you fall, you suddenly get smashed everywhere, from the neck to the body, to the beak to the legs, down to the butthole, you feel pain for half a second, then suddenly everything blurs for one second then blackouts. And now you are in the male landfill, sometimes with a few female chicks, but many males, unable to turn your head, hear, smell, even move your mouth muscles a single nanometer, and only faintly seeing light come after the blackout, then while your eyelids are open, you blackout again, even though your eye was open! It then turns out you are missing a body, as that body was 3 meters away from you.

Recently, me and my grandma have stopped buying eggs from the market and instead get them from my mom who’s raising nine hens herself. The best part of this is that no chicks are killed during the process, but the second best part? Some of the eggs are blue, and we’re expecting pink and green ones soon! It’s good to know I’m no longer contributing to this horrid cycle, for the most part.
Even though I work as a butcher, this hurt me, I felt it tight in my chest. I refuse to eat eggs that are not from our chickens. I will also don't kill birds under one year old. Edit: we also have 19 roosters in our flock and they are so sweet and friendly.
I am shocked at this. I'm a chicken and quail farmer and I've never even heard of such a thing. my farm is in north Cyprus and we keep all our animals until they die naturally or until they are culled for meat. our male egg layer chicks are kept for 8 weeks then sold as breeders or meat. we have learnt to determine male from female by the egg shape and its very successful. so we need not do this inhumane culling of chicks.

I think one of the other ways to solve this is to shorten supply chains. Reduce demand yes, but if you keep your own chickens locally or know someone who does, the demand can be met much more humanely, and laying hens often lay WAY more than a single family can use. (Freezing also keeps them fresh for longer and makes no difference in baking.) Shopping locally at farmer's markets is a good idea in general, too. Industrial agriculture is one of the biggest problems for the planet, and egg substitutes just shift demand to another industry focused on profits through monoculture. It's a hard issue we have to tackle together with our neighbors. Good luck out there.
I agree, especially with that egg laying part. I’ve got five hens at the moment, only three are laying so far, and we’ve got at least four or so cartons of eggs in the fridge so far just from them this last month or so.

Yes, but you are not a chicken farmer for a high demand factory. I am vegan and even I know the difference between having 100 chickens and millions of chickens and the costs to keep all of them.
Okay I understand you incubated more chicks than you needed, or some baby chicks are not up to the best quality or you don't have enough demand for the market, then kill them at least in a humane way, or just sell them at the local market at a very low price.

OMG THEY’RE SO ADORABLE!!! 🥺 Why can’t people just put the baby males back in the wild where they belong instead of killing them for absolutely no reason?? This world is fucked up.
Hey Amelia. Egg laying chickens are bred commercially and would not be able to survive as wild animals. Millions of male chicks are killed every year as a waste product of the industry. What my father told me that they used to give out baby chicks to kids at Easter time and when people got tired of them they dumped them in my grandparent's yard because they had chickens. They kept them and when they started to crow they slaughtered and ate them.
Why not just let them grow up and make them have a painless death for food? This is actually sad to watch, I know It's normal to kill animals for food but this is just horrible.
I have no words that describe my thoughts of this and I can barely imagine our other so called food sources are brought to us and what those employees might feel about everything else in life. ....
Meanwhile I have 16 roosters roaming our property because I’ve been putting off culling them. They were hatched out of our last brood of egg layers. They all have different personalities. Eventually they’ll get it if they get mean. But for now they get to hang out and make a lot of noise for the neighbors. 🤣
My mom has about 20 hens she hatched and she gets about 12 eggs a day which is too much for us, we live in a small town of like 300 people 😅so everyone kinda just buys our eggs farm to fresh and no killing envolved, huge open pen and they roam free half the day 🤷🏼♂️ I suggest buying from local places like this maybe consider getting your own hens and maybe hatching eggs 🙏 it’s an amazing thing and is very good knowing no chickens will die!
I always find it incredible that some people who post comments can find humour in these vile and cruel acts. It is truly horrendous. I was not aware that this sort of thing went on.
Anything you buy from a supermarket is made with cruelty. Anything. Yes, that includes vegetables, too, and chocolate, and coffee, etc. Why is this news?
“Anything you buy from a supermarket is made with cruelty......”???? Really???? in that case let us all pray for all carrots and potatoes who have suffered. Of course wine, having been made by standing on and crushing grapes how cruel. Those poor doughnuts (injected with jam by force and without consent). It is news because little defenceless chicks are shredded to pieces rather than being allowed to live simply because they cannot produce eggs. The fact that this has to be explained to someone is very worrying. Ridiculous.
@@66Viscount have you ever seen how large scale vegetable producers operate? They kill wildlife around with poison, kill everything that lived in the soil. And, guess what the working conditions are for people who make a $1 head of lettuce possible. I am surprised this needs to be explained in this day and age when one can look that up. Nobody disputes that chicken farming is cruel. Large scale veggie farming is not much different. Heard of insect decline? Sure, bugs are not cute and fluffy, but they are more useful for the ecosystem than any chicks. So if you want no cruelty, never ever buy anything from a large-scale producer. If you do, but get teary-eyed because something cute and fluffy gets ground up (they can make fertilizer and pet food out of these, by the way) while ignoring everything else, it is a wrong attitude.

I agree that this is cruel, but why is the solution on all these videos to "just stop eating them" you could buy from local farms who grow all of their products ethically. Or you could do it yourself so you know where your food comes from and know that you did everything as humanely as possible.
@@ericpark8956 typically they are sold off or raised until butchering age not thrown in grinder but I am sure some farmers out there like to make ground chick for their dogs.
It's a wasteful practice because all those male chickens could be raised for food. But everyone is told that male chickens are not good to eat and for the egg farmers raising male chickens to eat is less profitable than selling eggs.

These creatures are purely innocent and don’t deserve this, we have to stop this
After all they are living, breathing, thinking beings that feel pain
I believe the only way to stop this is to spread the message and let the world know. Come on people spread the message save these animals
That is just sick and twisted animal cruelty. I could never imagine doing that to an animal or anything living for that matter.
Millions of plants are eaten alive everyday by animals.
So wasteful
Not even the smallest possible amount of respect for the chickens
I would be happier if they sold the unused chicks to smaller farmers but what do I know about anything
This can literally make me cry. These are concious creatures 😢
I feel worse for the hens that live a horrible life 24/7.
As an individual who raises chickens, I do not want to be associated with this industry, we don't kill our boy chicks, and all of our girls are spoiled rotten, don't worry about the boys they're all so spoiled and well-loved.

I’ll write a complaint to the devs, maybe a 1 week invincibility period before they’re able to take damage? idk, just a thought
Usually only psychopaths or sociopaths feel nothing when hurting animals to the point of death. Sadly they’re just seen as objects.
It's one thing to turn a blind eye, but it's another thing to be the one to actually carry this out...
It's the same thing

This is totally inhumane and we should be putting into and they should divide chicks out even if there’s too many
Yes, but you are not a chicken farmer for a high demand factory. I am vegan and even I know the difference between having 100 chickens and millions of chickens and the costs to keep all of them.
I bet you don't raise enough chickens to make demand.
Okay I understand you incubated more chicks than you needed, or some baby chicks are not up to the best quality or you don't have enough demand for the market, then kill them at least in a humane way, or just sell them at the local market at a very low price.
@@mohammadtahsinkamal5208 This is the most 'humane' way to kill them. What suggestion do you have that would be more humane? Btw, I am a vegan so clearly I am against this, I am just curious.
It would not be viable or possible for this many chicks to be rehomed or released. The only way we can stop this from happening is by not eating eggs. What my father told me that they used to give out baby chicks to kids at Easter time and when people got tired of them they dumped them in my grandparent's yard because they had chickens. They kept them and when they started to crow they slaughtered and ate them.
That's the nature. It's the brutal world we live in.
Me too I would get colored chicks, pink, blue, green , for Easter than they used to go to my Italian grandmother.
Why not just let them grow up and make them have a painless death for food? This is actually sad to watch, I know It's normal to kill animals for food but this is just horrible.
Because its not worth the cost because people like eating eggs.
@@epiclamp44 I guess
This is almost as brutal as the IRS
This is just sad. I wish the male chicks could go somewhere else instead of getting killed.
why not just sell it, there must be a lot of people who buy and maybe most of them are children...i m so sad they are innocent😭😭

Sick industry. Sick and disgusting
I have no words that describe my thoughts of this and I can barely imagine our other so called food sources are brought to us and what those employees might feel about everything else in life. ....
You dont need to imagine look up dominion. It's a documentary that goes over how each of our animals are farmed
She hatched 20 hens? Surely she has 20 roosters as well, right?
I'm a vegetarian and I'm soooooo proud of it.
If you ever were informed in this century instead of just hitting your head against a wall you will everything around today is automated and if you play close attention, you will see that the narrator is using fancier words and more formal lanquage is just to give you that felling, but in reality those shredded chicks benefit the dog food industry*sorry for the spelling mistakes im ukranian*

I agree that this is cruel, but why is the solution on all these videos to "just stop eating them" you could buy from local farms who grow all of their products ethically. Or you could do it yourself so you know where your food comes from and know that you did everything as humanely as possible.

This is why farm to table is very important and the age of factory farming needs to come to an end.
Exactly. Corporate food suppliers should cease to exist. They are evil and unnecessary.
Do you think those farmers spend money raising males? They cull them too.
@@ericpark8956 typically they are sold off or raised until butchering age not thrown in grinder but I am sure some farmers out there like to make ground chick for their dogs.
It's a wasteful practice because all those male chickens could be raised for food. But everyone is told that male chickens are not good to eat and for the egg farmers raising male chickens to eat is less profitable than selling eggs.
raise your own chickens, or become good friends with someone who does, and you know they’re being treated well, the eggs are also stronger and better tasting/cook better than the anemic eggs from the store.

WHO WANTS TO SAVE THOSE CHICKS??!!!
Switzerland outlawed the use of cages and mass batteries in 1992. the EU outlawed it in 2012. sadly, chick killing continued until 2023-24 as the new scanning tech became mandatory, which means they can tell by the 9th day if the chick in the egg is female or male, leaving the male eggs unincubated or discarded. @TychoBrahe has a good post.
