I love what you do. We're currently converting a Nissan Civilian and yours is my goto channel for equipment and installation ideas. Primarily because I know you do a lot of research before deciding what to go for, which saves me from doing it. 🙂 I also like the fact that you generally use quality items for your build and your tutorials are detailed and informative. I'm currently looking for water tanks, but I'm not sure I can find the ones that you installed in NZ, although I've just started my search, so I may yet find them. Failing that I'll just build brackets for them. Keep up the good work.
I agree with William. I would consider using carriage bolts on all and put the nuts on the underside. Also use lock nuts or a bit of Loctite on the nuts to keep them from coming loose. And with the low profile of the carriage bolt heads on top, your toes will thank you and will find the low clearance easier to build on.
Swap them around, you could use cup head style bolts that have rounded heads. You would have to enlarge the hole in your aluminum strip so the sit down properly
My first time watching your channel. Very nice job on this rebuild. A suggestion I would make, is to add some support straps under the tanks. They are quite heavy when water is added. When driving down the road and with the weight and sloshing around of the water it puts a lot of stress on the mounting of the tank. I learned this pulling my 5th wheel over the roads of the USA. I found my supports broke by accident. Had to reinforce the supports holding the tanks in the 5th wheel. After witnessing the problem that several people had, I emptied the tanks when possible. Again, nice job you're doing. Looking forward to seeing it finished.

A lot of people have these tanks in their rigs and I've never heard of anyone having problems with them. I will of course be keeping an eye on them and will add extra supports down the track if i have to, but I don't think they will be necessary :)
Hi, you have done an amazing job and i have been watching closley for ideas and tips. I want to ask about fitting the water tanks. Do you think it would be better to fit the tanks before adding the floor? So ypu would not have to drill through the floor?
With the tanks I have, I think it is best to put them in after the floor is done. Because they bolt up through the floor, and I can easily access the bolts if I want to remove the tanks at any stage. If you install them first and then build the floor on top, first of all, you would need to fabricate some sort of frame to attach the tanks to the chassis underneath, and then you would need to attach them some other way than just bolts, so you could get them down if needed. Lot of mucking around unnecessarily in my opinion. Only downside to having the bolts through the floor is that you can see them inside. But almost all of mine are being built over anyway, so that's not an issue for me.
Under the table a set of carriage bolts might do the trick. The dome top on a carriage bolt would stop any toe stubs and make it easier to clean vs a mop getting caught on a normal bolt. Plus it’s a lot lower profile.
@@AGirlADogandABus there is a type of carriage bolt that has screw thread all the way to the top instead of the small flat sides part on a normal carriage bolt. That may be more suitable. Also since the floor is wooden I think the aluminium is actually acting more like a washer. I’m not a tradie so take that with a grain of salt but I think it’s right aha.
The only issue i had with the tanks and RV Australia was the recommended breather and pick location. Now that ive actually fitted them and had to deal with making the breather i now know how to have the breather s and pick up. I put 2 x 60's between left door and left rear wheel, then 1 x 60 eother side of the bus behind the rear wheels 240lts is good for around 6 weeks with 2 dogs no shower or washing dishes
Not sure what you're talking about but in the video the measurements I give are correct - the larger tank is 600 x 330 x 330 and the smaller one is 600 x 300 x 300
Not sure yet. I don't think it will be an issue as a lot of people have these tanks in same location and don't seem to have problems, but I will definitely be keeping an eye on it and may end up putting some sort of heat shield between them.

I'm not sure they would work with the aluminium though? They are meant to dig into wood aren't they?

Will you add protection of some sort between the tank and the exhaust? Eg will the heat from the exhaust melt the tank?

Water tanks and plumbing do not need to be certified. (at least not where I am in Australia).
