    I think the running starts help the gas cars to get to their top end speeds at the end.
    If you both did a stationary start, I think the Tesla would win every time because of the super acceleration off the line. The Tesla had no more acceleration at the end and you usually turn speeds around 150-152 mph.
    Good race and thanks for the video. Still the Tesla Plaid EV's are awesome.

    • @TeslaPlaidChannel
      @TeslaPlaidChannel  ปีที่แล้ว

      The main benefit is for “traction limited” cars. Instead of spinning their tires at the starting line, they are doing 30-40MPH and are less likely to spin. But in the end, the top speed at the finish line is only 1-3MPH different versus a regular start from the tree, regardless of the car.

  • @L3x4Pr0ne

    The most impressive thing about the Tesla is its ability to consistently run great numbers over continued beatings. You’ve “beaten” all of your cars with hundreds of runs and they just continue to perform with no drop off, as designed.
    Don’t get me wrong, I love ICE cars too (multiple foxbody owner here), but we build up our cars and it seems like so much can go wrong…and the more we build them up, the more risk - like this poor GTR owner today.
    These electric cars just perform so damn well. This is also testimony to the engineers that designed this thing. Just wow.

      @@TeslaPlaidChannel, having spent time on the pit crew of a fueler, I can tell you that you win every single race, because you go like holy Hell, you don't fry your tires, you don't spin out, you don't crash, you don't blow up, you don't spend all week preparing the car for a couple of hours of racing, and it probably costs you under $10 for 'fuel' for a night of drag racing against vehicles that cost far more than yours, sometimes ridiculously more, and you still beat most of them to the traps while consistently turning close to 9 second quarters. Regarding that "factory stock" point (RC), I've seen a number of factory stock Hellcats/Redeyes/Demons that don't post consistent times, mostly due to traction issues. Even on Drag Radials, not always super-consistent. Some Hellcat/Redeye guys (Mike and Doug on this Channel for example) are quite consistent, but also not nearly "factory stock". My point is just that "factory stock" doesn't necessarily mean "works the same every time".

    • @nighthawk0077
      @nighthawk0077 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@L3x4Pr0ne For sure, but you have to remember this is the Plaids playground. It's the ideal environment for any performance electric vehicle. Having near max torque at zero RPM, plus only requiring a full power burst of less than 10 seconds all play to it's favor. The only thing going against it is weight, but when you have over 1000hp, you can still run very fast times.

    • @nighthawk0077

Only problem is it might be hard to get a race as some won't run it.

I do enjoy seeing these races with the big boys because it is a true challenge, and it is still exciting to see, regardless of who wins. It is sad that the blue GT-R blew it's engine, but these are heavily modified race cars. You should try to convince the track to install a couple of 48amp or better yet 64amp EVSEs, or Level 2 chargers, like the Clipper Creek. You are showing up to the track fully charged anyway, so an expensive DCFC wouldn't be that fast anyway. You could add 1% every 5 minutes with one of those, and the 64amp wouldn't help you, but it would help a Lightning or a Hummer. The Taycan can be ordered with a faster onboard charger now. The Clipper Creek is $1,066 on Amazon before shipping and paying the electrician.

    Only the Nevera can really take on the Plaid as both being stock cars, but considering the Nevera is $2.4 M vs the Plaid “just” around $140K, in reality, the Plaid is the fastest street legal factory stock car in the world. The Nevera is more like an exotic car that almost nobody can afford anyways.
    But everything might change when the Tesla Roadster comes out next year (2023). We will have to wait and see what the final version will be able to do, and if Elon is able to produce a SoaceX rocket powered Roadster like he claimed some time ago (I really doubt it but anything is possible from him so we will have to wait and see). Heavily modifying super cars like the GT-R is fun, but is also almost pointless now with EVs all around and will be completely pointless to do that in a few tears when the EV “explosion” really happens.
    For now, I am happy to be driving my modest and humble Model 3 Performance that cannot compete with all these monsters, but that still can go 0-60 MPH in 3.1 seconds making it one of the fastest everyday drive vehicles out there. Cheers

      The rear seat warning is still there. I’ve heard if possible solutions (fake a wiring harness, resistors, etc), but not currently worth the effort.
      The front seat is still in place due to locktite, but may just leave it. These ETs currently make it possible to beat most of the 9-second cars I’ve been encountering at my local tracks. A good reaction time and it can beat high 8-second cars. (Note the 0.367 RT difference on that last race, he could have run 8.800 and the Plaid still would have won 😃)

    What is the max mph can the Tesla Plaid do after the latest update for performance?

    • @TeslaPlaidChannel
      @TeslaPlaidChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve gone 163MPH right after the 1/4 mile traps but the runoff is not long enough to go higher, and the dragstrips (rightfully) get mad if you stay on the throttle past the finish line. With Tesla’s upcoming new brake kit, they up the speed to 200MPH AFTER that hardware is installed.
      I won’t be getting it, as it requires the heavier 21” wheels that are slower for drag racing. And there are no dragstrips longer than 1/4 mile in Florida, so entirely no reason to get it here.

    • @TeslaPlaidChannel
      @TeslaPlaidChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      On slicks, that 9.16ET pass would have been right around 9.20 to 9.25. (The Pirellis already hooked up perfectly on this well-prepped track, so the higher rolling resistance of the slicks would have slowed it down.). Proven dozens of times with the Nittos that I’ve tested so many nights since last year.
