Beginning with dry lake beds and abandoned airport runways, the sport of NHRA Drag Racing has since grown to include a worldwide network of nearly 150 member tracks. Your Plaid is still fully covered by warranty, amirite? Amazing how at least one of the competion's vehicle voids the warranty when you put it into launch mode because they know the transmission life will be ruined.I've never heard of a Tesla breaking down racing.
For this Plaid, I’d put it all back together whenever it needs to go into a Tesla Service Center. Tesla has never showed concern (to me) about racing. I’ve mentioned the 1000+ dragstrip runs (in these last two Teslas) to various Tesla employees and they’ve only given a thumbs up kind of reaction. Even technicians in the service center don’t show concern. No problem at all 👍

The trap speeds (MPH at both points) at this track often seem a bit different than other tracks, so maybe a grain of salt on that stat. Otherwise I believe the tires were right at 40 PSI on this night.

Several videos on TH-cam with Plaids going from 8.99 to 9.1x with the best 1/8 mile I saw at a 5.86! Still think, now that you got serious about lightening the car. HELIUM filled tires should calculate between a 40-60 pound weight reduction. And should not be that expensive....think party balloons! Ever think of RACER tape over front openings on the Plaid, possible small gain with little money. Your brakes should be fine at lighter weight, and have you experimented with the weight bias option with say 70% on the rear wheels just from the acceleration force? Get REALLY serious fiberglass panels are interesting as carbon fiber still too damn expensive. Great show with that 9.15 run!
Hey Andrew. So happy for you 😀👍 Congratulations 🎉 on the PBs. It is the best feeling when you see a time you have been chasing. I am chasing a low 12 in my car. It is being naughty 🤣😂 but I will persist.

OK, point proven, the correct-size electric motors are better for acceleration, so at this stage, unless you can run low 9s or high 8s, why would you race the Plaid? Unless it's a test-and-tune thing, where you line up against anyone.

Trying for 12.5 on readings. That and some decent air should put me in 9.8-9.9 zone. (740 hp) at the crank through a factory 4-bolt. block.
Do the side view mirrors create a lot of drag? Might pick up some mph with those removed.
Now those were some interesting races. I thought that you might gut your car, because like you said, I didn't see any reason not to. Cool video.
Those races with you and Blake seem to play out that the one with the quicker reaction time wins. Comparing time slips is the best way.
You caught him sleeping on the first 2 runs.
Thats great Andrew you can hear more whine from the rear motor the which I really love. if you like to save on some unsprang weight check out the Mountain pass Performance 2 piece front and rear rotors you can retain the tesla calipers and its save me a good 10 lbs on front and it brakes better at the track, You are one hell of a driver cutting the light on Blake Plaid
Interesting to watch the Plaid after the diet. I didn't notice Blakes steering wheel last time, it that from Tesla or after market?
👍Blake’s aftermarket wheel was very briefly mentioned in our previous race video, although I don’t know which brand he installed. (There are now MANY brands to choose from, and I’ve even been offered a free one if I install it and show on my Channel. Pass)
Absolutely awesome iy💙💙💙
Sounds incredible, really odd but I prefer that to a V8
It looks like you got inspired to lose some weight in the Plaid, and it really paid off. Shaving weight without losing stock status, drivability, road legality, or even driver comfort is a win-win for racing. That extra edge, combined with having a good R/T, will no doubt make a difference moving forward. Congratulations for the amazing acceleration times! Getting a 5.94 in the 1/8th looks so much quicker than low 6s do. And it is keeping that lead and speed all the way through the 1/4 mile. 😎
Cool! Orange crush let off way before eighth tho.
We’ve raced the Crush a dozen times now, and the result is always the same… (unless we give it a head start)
@@TeslaPlaidChannel OK, that car looked faster than a 7.5 sec at 70mph that was on the time slip. Your car was screaming that day tho.
@@patrickterry779 Indeed, the Orange Crush runs high 6s, like the two races we had against it on this night: th-cam.com/video/CHoAFEqGG_E/w-d-xo.html
Great job sir!
12:14 passed that Z06 mid track like ot was standing still! ⚡️💨💨
Great Channel :D The acceleration looks total sureal. Did you ever thought about replacing the glass roof or even the hood with a carbon fiber part?
Maybe there is a local manufacturer who would make them for free in exchange for a little advertising on the part itself? ;)
👍The hood and outer panels are aluminum (not a ton to be saved), and I believe the glass roof to be structural. If the right parts come along, I’d definitely entertain them 😃
26:25 a nice run for sure!
So you might run eights if you take the passenger seat out and reduce your unspung mass in your wheels. New lightweight rims, carbon brake rotors and I think you're in the 8.90-8.95s. Does the NHRA rules allow for brake modifications?
NHRA rules require a full roll cage for any Plaid faster than 9.0. The weight of that roll cage will cost it almost two tenths and put it back into the 9s. (We have the Level 6 license as required below)
The new NHRA Rules that apply to the Plaid:
From its formation in 1951, the National Hot Rod Association has worked tirelessly to eliminate the illegal and dangerous practice of street racing, and to this day, that continues to be one of the association’s primary missions.
Since 1951, NHRA has worked in conjunction with local law- enforcement agencies, city planners, schools, and other parties to educate and persuade would-be racers to participate in organized events held in a controlled environment. Beginning with dry lake beds and abandoned airport runways, the sport of NHRA Drag Racing has since grown to include a worldwide network of nearly 150 member tracks.
NHRA’s efforts to combat illegal street racing continue to this day with the NHRA Street Legal Racing program at the forefront of the movement. One of the most effective tools in the fight against illegal street racing is the establishment of Street Legal events held regularly at NHRA member tracks.
The Street Legal category is reserved for foreign and domestic OEM production type automobiles and trucks. All vehicles must be street driven and drivers must carry a state-issued proof of registration and valid insurance information. All vehicles must also display a valid license plate(s).
Vehicles participating in Street Legal events must be able to pass all state highway safety requirements for the state in which the vehicle is registered and retain all OEM safety features.
Additionally, requirements and specifications for Street Legal competitors and other local NHRA member track events are the same as those for the Summit E.T. Racing Series with the following exceptions:

@@TeslaPlaidChannel thanks for the info! I noticed it doesn't mention gloves. Is that a personal preference then?
@@Inimbrium This section that I copied only covers the *car*. Driver safety is covered elsewhere. At the ET and trap speed that the Plaid runs, specific gloves are required, as well as fire resistant jacket, pants, and shoes. (Helmet too) There are specifics for how many minutes they all must resist fire…
@@TeslaPlaidChannel cool. Good to know. I'm a massive Tesla fan and I hope to one day afford a Plaid myself! Meanwhile I shall enjoy how you destroy all those ICE dinosaurs! I think the Plaid was mady by Elon with he specific purpose to show the inherent superiority of the electric motor. It's not just the future, it's the present! Keep up the good work!
how many runs vs remaining charge?
About 3% per 1/4 mile pass. That’s over 30 runs. We’ve personally made 20 before, but never seen another 9-second car make more than 5, since they need to “cool down” between runs…
The Tesla Model 3 has some good reinforced center roof column, if you can remove all the stock seats and replace all the glass with plastic including that front windshield and front glass piece with plastic, that part weights a lot and don't forget the door panels.
Blake said that after they removed all possible weight from their hillclimb Model 3 Performance, it didn’t accelerate any faster. Apparently it’s governed…
@@TeslaPlaidChannel too many sensors and sensitivity software
Congrats on the 9.154.
Ooh baby that's flyin!
I love this station 😍😍🙈🙉🙊❤❤🤣🤣🤣😂😂
👍 Over a thousand Tesla races are posted here to choose from 😃
What year is ya Tesla plaid s here ya racing in.
2021…delivered in August and raced about 400 times since then…
Yeahhh! 😂 esa primer pasada fue genial..
👍 But pass # 6 was even better! 😃
Glad to have you back Andrew! Shedding the weight with yourself and the car does seem to make a difference. What are your thoughts on that? Good racing and reaction time btw.
BP
The first bit of weight is easier, then it gets a whole lot harder to shed any.
That goes for both car and driver. I’m 6’4” and doc says this is the right weight to be 😃
@@TeslaPlaidChannel I am glad you are in a good place with yourself, the S-Plaid, and racing 🏁 endeavors. We definitely appreciate your professionalism and skills. Not to mention the hours of video and editing you do to bring races right into our living rooms. Much appreciated! 6' 4" wow that is tall.
You can get rid of all that sound-deadening material as well. That stuff is pretty heavy.
👍Most of the heavy foam is out already, hence why the road noise is now so loud in this video…
Wow your time is nuts!! Awesome!!
Andrew do you know anyone with a Dyno I still what to know what happens with the safe guards off to the power put down while I agree that trying that in the real world is down right not safe if we had some figure off a Dyno for the mapped range and the broken mode we could see how much more is in the car they will not let you use.
PS glad you are feeling better
No problem at all 👍
@@TeslaPlaidChannel These drag races sell thousands of their cars! Thumbs up, of course.
I was gonna suggest that you take that out
I'm surprised you gutted it
Wasn’t the easiest decision, but so far so good 👍🏻
What was your tire pressure at for the 9.154s 1/4mi? and I saw 1/8 was 118mph? I've ran a 121mph and 6.1 for 1/8mi before, nuts! need a 9.09s 1/4mi run next!
The trap speeds (MPH at both points) at this track often seem a bit different than other tracks, so maybe a grain of salt on that stat.
Otherwise I believe the tires were right at 40 PSI on this night.
plaidtastic
I told you to take the seats out! 👍🏾
so good ! congrats ! God Bless u !
Do you really need that front passenger seat?
Sometimes my wife comes to the track and shoots grandstand footage…
I want a plaid so badly 😢
You're car is now ~4,650 lb from 4,800 lb.
150lbs ~ .15s
BTW what's your weight ?
I’m around 195 (just right for 6’4”, the doctor tells me)
@@TeslaPlaidChannel I’m around 144, 5.9. Wow. I will have a nice numbers. Need check it.
Andrew, curious, you haven't posted much after the initial scare on the Model X Plaid and the tramlining etc. What did you do and can we expect some more runs from the Model X?? No one is posting much on the X Plaid and I'd love to see some content.
We actually sold the Model x in April (as mentioned at the end of that last Model X video, we waited for the sale before posting that video of the trip to the dragstrip).
Not missing it at all, but as admitted at the onset of the video, I’ve never been an SUV fan. I prefer being lower to the ground…
@@TeslaPlaidChannel Yours is the only one that reported to have tramlining issues and I was curious if that was resolved?? Thanks for the reply.
@@alexnutcasio936 I believe it was a combination of this dragstrip surface with those tires (which are unique to the 20” wheels, where many other TH-camrs went with the 22”s)
@@TeslaPlaidChannel It would be interesting to see how the 20s would do with higher performance tires, like Pilot Sport 4S or something akin to those on the 22s, just smaller??

Haven't seen many do it yet! But let me know when you do
What happened with that car ya race it just stayed in da block ya got 9.202 1/14 miles run wow . Da orange Monte Carlo run is crazy fast too .
Big CONGRADS. Andrew! THAT VIDEO was your most informative to date! Any serious Plaid racers should be all over it!
Several videos of plaid doing 8s ? 🤔 i want to see one of those videos.
@@d.cuesta7118 put in TH-cam search Plaid runs 8's.... and a GIRL is the driver!
Helium won't help as it doesn’t reduce mass.
@@mmark300 if volume is 7x less than O, it should reduce weight considerably

Hey Andrew. So happy for you 😀👍
Congratulations 🎉 on the PBs. It is the best feeling when you see a time you have been chasing.
I am chasing a low 12 in my car. It is being naughty 🤣😂 but I will persist.
Question: Have you ever Ran with the AC on? What was the ET with the AC on and off?
Never ever ran with the AC on. That’s a huge no-no. It drips condensation water on the track and will get a driver reprimanded or (rightfully) kicked out.
@@TeslaPlaidChannel Thank you for taking the time to answer the Question!
Great content. Seeing another plaid go 9.1 is inspiring. Just don't go crazy 😧
It doesn’t count as a record cause it wasn’t stock?
Just personal best here. Lighter ones with lighter drivers go even faster. 👍
oo I'm happy about the lightweighting.
It sounds great, too

Track mode gives you a Higher Top speed
did you ever tried it 🤔
We tested Track Mode in January, but it wasn't any faster: th-cam.com/video/k4wLKmyrcfA/w-d-xo.html
are you going to Autocross that thing? Move the joy stick or just floor board it? I want to see that!
OK, point proven, the correct-size electric motors are better for acceleration, so at this stage, unless you can run low 9s or high 8s, why would you race the Plaid? Unless it's a test-and-tune thing, where you line up against anyone.
New personal bests!
You are still shutting them down Drew.
