    About Tyler Childers:
Nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Kentucky is a little town called, Paintsville, where the economy is dependent on the dying coal industry and a tradition of music thrives with the US 23 Country Music Highway Museum and Butcher Hollow. Carrying on the music tradition is native son and current Lexington, Kentucky resident, Tyler Childers.
Paintsville is located in the Big Sandy River Valley of Johnson County in Eastern Kentucky made famous for its lawlessness, religion, and booze, and a song about a horse thief, a rambling man, and an attempt to gain some good ol' Appalachian self-justice is what "William Hill" is all about. Following his "Papaw" around to the Kentucky social institutions - church events and barber shops to name a few- as well as a lot of coon hunting with his dad, Tyler has heard a tale or two about the misadventures of a few good ol' boys and he gives his own spin of these accounts behind a whisky-soaked voice well beyond his young age.

    Lyrics:
Back before these calloused hands did all this work
We used to sit up at the flats
    Acting like we'd live forever
    ADVERTISING
    Getting high and skipping class
    I reckon we were heathens
But in her eyes we were saints
Now you're calling all the boys home
As heavens angels carry her away
I will follow you to Virgie
    Although it hurts me so
To lay to rest this mountain beauty
    That the Lord's called home
Can't you see her up in glory
I can see her through the pines
Back when all us boys were trying
To make sense of all these strings
I can see her in the corner
Singing along to all our crazy dreams
I will follow you to Virgie
    Although it hurts me so
To lay to rest this mountain beauty
    That the Lord's called home
Can't you see her up in glory
I can see her through the pines
I will follow you to Virgie
    Although it hurts me so
To lay to rest this mountain beauty
    That the Lord's called home
Can't you see her up there, Cody?
I can see her through the pines
    Saying boys be good

I’m from Virgie, Ky, and I went to church with the old lady this was written about. My dad had his funeral at the same place in Virgie. This song means more to me than anything. Not only does Tyler Childers make me proud to be from One of the smallest towns in Kentucky. He makes us all proud to be Kentuckians! He’s a wonderful storyteller, and as a musician myself he’s everything I aspire to be! Still watching this faithfully years later and it never gets old.

She's been gone almost 10 years now and this song just broke me in a way I hadn't felt since that day she died. I needed it though. Definitely going to be checking out the rest of Tyler's music now.

My wife after many years of battling with depression decide to end things on her own terms 2 days ago. This was one of her favorite songs. These words ring so true now, and I take comfort knowing that I can speak to her when ever I need to now and see her up there in glory with every sunset, beautiful tree, and sky. Chessie I love you and while I will never fully understand why you made the decision that you did, know that I’ll love you forever and that god called home his West Virginia mountain beauty, this is Gods plan and his plan is perfect.
If you are reading this and contemplating the unthinkable please reach out to those who love you or call the hotline. Nobody should ever have to feel this pain that her loved ones and I are going through.

I swear with her, there was no worries in the world and I never felt more complete and whole by her side.I’ve grown and I’m proud of the man I’m becoming. I carry her with me everywhere I go. I have always been proud of my Appalachian heritage, but he takes my pride to another level. The first time I saw him in concert was fourteen days ago at Freedom Hall, and I bought tickets to Red Rocks and Charleston, SC, scheduled for this year. It was an amazing spiritual experience, where his voice takes you. My daddy was also a coal miner; I come from eight generations. The mountain roots run deep. The Lord was right there with us at the concert; I could feel it. If you get the chance to see him, go.

There are no more ties to family. If the last 2-3 yrs have taught me anything it’s that you can’t count on anyone but yourself, not even family.
When the chips are down they’ll act against your best interests, they’ll comply with tyranny and hand you over if they perceive it as the right thing to do or something that’ll make their lives easier.
In the very least they’re the ones giving the tyrants power and legitimacy with their compliance making it that much harder for the rest of us who are unwavering in our noncompliance

My great grandmother died this past sunday at the great age of 93. She was one of the most wonderful and kind people you’d ever meet, she was completely sober. No alcohol, tobacco, nicotine. No drugs, not even Grass. She was the purest of the pure. A wonderful and delightful christian woman. I was extremely close with her, as far back as the days where I was in diapers and only knew a few words. im 18 now. A week before she passed, i went up and visited her. She was weak, weary, her health was clearly on the ropes. I told her “I’ll come back up as soon as I can to see you Grandma.”. And then i get a call from my dad this past Monday telling me she passed. On the way to her funeral yesterday, my dad played this song. And it left me in tears. Betty Queen, I’ll see you again someday. 🩷

I had my headset connected to my laptop, I let the videos play while I mow. As I am mowing today, this came on. As I listened to the words I found myself weeping.....Idk know who this lady is, but she should like one loved soul that was laid to rest in Virgie. If rural music is to be saved, Tyler can do it.
