Because that’s what real men do! I’ve been to combat and this hits my heart! I’m from this area and my grandmother was from Virgie! This is real music.
My grandma's name was Virginia and we called her Gramma Virgie. She passed away while I was in the ICU following open heart surgery. I was 17 and the only thing I could think or talk about back then was being a cattle rancher. She'd smile and tell me about granddad and his big herd. Well, I've got my herd now and I'm raising show cattle on the farm she and granddad built together. I must not have grieved properly when she passed because this came on one day while clipping for a show and I broke down sobbing in front of the college kids I have working for me. It was so cathartic. Idk why I'm telling a bunch of strangers but this feels good too. Tyler may be a wild mountain man, but he's a good boy.
Kinda wierd....cause im cryin and smilin at same time...my mom passed away a couple yrs ago..her name is virgie..first time ive heard this song...momma this ones for u. Love and miss u badly...
I'm reading Hillbilly Elegy and it mentions how "holler" people called their grandparents Mamaw and Papaw only there. But Mamaw and Papaw was used in Texas too. Country people-ranchers. Never be the likes of them again.
@@tcm6756 not just Texas and mountain people. I think just country people in general. I'm from Mississippi and lots of people call their grandparents maw maw and paw paw. That's what we called my grandparents.

When he hits the last verse and talks about seeing her in the pines I cry - anytime, every time. Good bless US we’re so divided. If we could all listen to this and forget politics- snowflakes and boomers and just remember true love me might be able to save our nation

It's like this song was written for me and my brothers. We all played this song yesterday and no one had dry eyes. We were raised by a mountain beauty for sure, born in 1921. She seen us all as saints but the only saint was & still is her... great song!
This man stumbled over a couple of words in the improvised story lead up of this song and then delivers maybe one of the best live performances of a beautiful song.

My name is Cody. Lost my aunt and grandmother in the same year a few years back. Grandpa joined them a few months ago. I still catch little glimpses of them from time to time. Work and life have been hard lately. But then I heard this song for the first time today it came on a completely random country station. My cousins, who my aunt called "the boys" and I would hang out near my aunt's pond a lot, an area that we all called "the salt flats." Some of my best memories were there or at my grandmother's house that we all filled. When I heard the line "can't you see her up there Cody?" I completely broke down. This song means so much to me. A sign from them. Thank you
This song hits me really hard. I'm from Kentucky and my wife of 20 years left me for another man the day that I was told that I have cancer!! Hit me so hard that I have given up on life and everything. My world will never be the same without her. I'll always love you Chop McDaniels.
Amazing lyrics. This guy deserves to have the fame. I'm glad sturgill found him. This song resonates with almost everybody. If you can listen to this and not get a chill, or worst a thumbs down . You are not human, or have never loved anyone before.
Man this guy sings with a passion straight from his inner soul. I heard Whitehouse Road then found this and was speechless after hearing it. I still am after replaying it 10 times. I cant get enough of his music and his voice. Tyler you are an absolutely gifted singer, story teller and song writer. A Kentucky boy true to your roots with a truthful purity in your style. You are an amazing talent.
We all have people we lose over time. And some are sweet like Cody’s grandma and some run down a different path, but both hurt the exact same. I hope you guys can all find your Virgie and relate. I can see them up in glory every day
You know that feeling you get when you FINALLY get to hear your favorite musician singing LIVE, and you realize with a sinking heart that they can't actually play or sing...this is the exact opposite of that.
This was one of my fraternity brothers favorite songs. Unfortunately, He left this world last night at 11pm. I can relate to "calling all the boys home" because of losing a loved one. Fly High RMH
I remember the first time I introduced this young man on stage , he was doing cover songs mostly Bob Dylan stuff and then he done a original song. I knew that he had all the ability and just needed the break to make it. So proud to say I know him.
I know Virgie. Hello my Eastern Kentucky friend. Your song speaks to me. It speaks of home, unconditional love, and our mountain beauties that we are losing every day. RIP MOMMA! I can see you up in glory, I can see you through the pines ❤️ Thanks Tyler. It takes someone from our area to speak for our area in this way. You do it beautifully!

My Gram passed 5years ago, a week before Christmas. My Mom still struggles whenever she wants to go and call her, ask her what she's up to. We all miss Gram, but the heartbreak my Mom feels somehow is worse.
There are not but a handful of musicians that stop me from what I'm doing just to listen to their undeniable talent , but you Tyler are one of those artists. Thank you for sharing your music with us.
I'm living this song right now. Went to have a drink at a mountain bar to just get through my mountain beauty dying. This song came on the juke box never heard before but it caught me and my nieces attention. Next day played it for the family and actually heard the words. Brought us to our knees in tears. Amazing lyrics. This guy deserves to have the fame. I'm glad sturgill found him. This song resonates with almost everybody. If you can listen to this and not get a chill, or worst a thumbs down . You are not human, or have never loved anyone before.
I am addicted to Tyler Childers' voice and sound, as a whole. AMAZING artist!
See her up there Cody? Saying boys be good! Hands down one of the best I've heard ever
I can see them up in glory every day
This is just brilliant. Tyler more than any other exemplifies true country music. And takes it to places that it has never really been before.
You know that feeling you get when you FINALLY get to hear your favorite musician singing LIVE, and you realize with a sinking heart that they can't actually play or sing...this is the exact opposite of that.
nothing more beautiful and honest than a sad song.
some friends of mine from Alabama put me on to Mr. Childers. I am forever grateful. What a power song. RIP Grandma
Don't see many Frisbys, that's my dad's name man
Will you tell I said hello for me....I play this over and over.....my grandmother was Virginia
You can feel the emotion. Such a phenomenal song, and performed live in one take. Impressive.
I know Virgie. Hello my Eastern Kentucky friend. Your song speaks to me. It speaks of home, unconditional love, and our mountain beauties that we are losing every day. RIP MOMMA! I can see you up in glory, I can see you through the pines ❤️
Thanks Tyler. It takes someone from our area to speak for our area in this way. You do it beautifully!
Hello I really do appreciate you for being a big fan, thank you for your wonderful comments on my post,it really means a lot to me.I sincerely hope you never stop listenin to my music….Love ❤️
Hits me in the feels every time
I'm a grown man and this song brings me to tears. Could you imagine the way Cody felt the first time he heard it?
I cannot listen to this song without crying. All of your songs are awesome Tyler, but this one hits home; especially since my grandparents were from Carter County, KY.
Absolutely brilliant powerful song. I could feel the love in this song. Sorry for your loss, wonderful tribute. Thanks for sharing
I’m from the mountain tops of Colombia, South America, but moved to the states young. NC Appalachia in fact. It’d been tough to spend time with my grandmother countries away and I finally had to say goodbye to her a day ago. Thank you so much this beautiful song, she always loved the English music id show her when I visit and I’m sure she woulda loved this one the same❤️
My grandmother passed away a few years ago my dad still sometimes thinks to himself ''Oh I better go check up on mother'' then he gets quiet when he remembers
My Gram passed 5years ago, a week before Christmas. My Mom still struggles whenever she wants to go and call her, ask her what she's up to. We all miss Gram, but the heartbreak my Mom feels somehow is worse.
@@AmandaBurns14 I feel you man my grandmother died december 23rd so I understand exactly
There are not but a handful of musicians that stop me from what I'm doing just to listen to their undeniable talent , but you Tyler are one of those artists. Thank you for sharing your music with us.
It sucks I can only hit the like button once..... so good
You can hit it twice :)
(Joke I really like this song only press it once)
Amen brother
Your reply made me cry. I had a special one as well. Lost her at 16,I’m an old man now and still gladly welcome every sweet thought I have of her.
May Cody’s grandmother rest in piece. What a great friend, and song. Well played
My Grandma Noreen died this year and this song is exactly what I needed. Thank you 🙏 . See you in heaven.
This song reminds me of my grandma that is buried on Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashland Kentucky. RIP MAMA. I'LL SEE YOU AGAIN ONE DAY. LOVE YOU
What a beautiful song. The emotion in his voice gives me chills.
I know its 7 years old bit it still hits hard to this day he knows how to hit the heart strings and i love it
I'm living this song right now. Went to have a drink at a mountain bar to just get through my mountain beauty dying. This song came on the juke box never heard before but it caught me and my nieces attention. Next day played it for the family and actually heard the words. Brought us to our knees in tears. Tyler you are one of the most talented musicians I've ever heard. And thank you for the song for our mountain beauty.
This song reminds me of my dads. They both died in 2009, six weeks apart, after being together over 30 years. I miss them so much!
the story followed by the performance. 4.5 minutes right in the feels.
My grandmother passed just a few weeks ago. I cant get through this one without crying. Thank you Tyler!
Nathan Long god bless you!
Lord have mercy, this one brought the chills. Beautiful.
I started tearing before he even started singing. Great song, great artist.
This was one of my favorite songs of his before my grama passed, once the lord called her home the song became more than just a song to me.
I went to school in prestonsburg and I miss that part of Kentucky so much. Especially apple days. Ain't no feeling in the world like eastern Kentucky
Holy crap his voice goes right through me! I’m holding back tears over a song I’ve just heard for the first time
