About Tyler Childers:
Nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Kentucky is a little town called, Paintsville, where the economy is dependent on the dying coal industry and a tradition of music thrives with the US 23 Country Music Highway Museum and Butcher Hollow. Carrying on the music tradition is native son and current Lexington, Kentucky resident, Tyler Childers.
Paintsville is located in the Big Sandy River Valley of Johnson County in Eastern Kentucky made famous for its lawlessness, religion, and booze, and a song about a horse thief, a rambling man, and an attempt to gain some good ol' Appalachian self-justice is what "William Hill" is all about. Following his "Papaw" around to the Kentucky social institutions - church events and barber shops to name a few- as well as a lot of coon hunting with his dad, Tyler has heard a tale or two about the misadventures of a few good ol' boys and he gives his own spin of these accounts behind a whisky-soaked voice well beyond his young age.

Lyrics:
Early in the morning when the sun does rise
Laying in the bed with blood shot eyes
Late in the evening when the sun sinks low
Well that's about time my rooster crows
I've got women up and down this creek
Where to keep me going and my engine clean
Run me ragged but I don't fret
Cause there ain't been nothing slow me down just yet
Get me drinking that moonshine
Get me higher than a grocery bill
Take my troubles to the high wall
Throw them in the river and get your fill
We been sniffing that cocaine
And no better feeling when the wind cuts cold
Lord its mighty hard living
But a damn good feeling to run these roads
I got people trying to tell me Red
Keep this living and you wind up dead
Cast your troubles on the lord of lords
Wind up lying on the cooling board
But I got buddies up at white house road
They keep me strutting when my feet hang low
Rot gut whiskey gonna ease my pain
And all this running gonna keep me sane
Get me drinking that moonshine
Get me higher than a grocery bill
Take my troubles to the high wall
Throw them in the river and get your fill
We been sniffing that cocaine
And no better feeling when the wind cuts cold
Lord its mighty hard living
But a damn good feeling to run these roads
Damn good feeling to run these roads
When they lay me in the cold hard clay
Singing them hymns while the banjo plays
Tell those ladies that they ought not frown
Cause there ain't been nothing ever held me down
Well the lawman, women or a shallow grave
Same old blues just a different day
Get me drinking that moonshine
Get me higher than a grocery bill
Take my troubles to the high wall
Throw them in the river and get your fill
We been sniffing that cocaine
And no better feeling when the wind cuts cold
Lord its mighty hard living
But a damn good feeling to run these roads
Damn good feeling to run these roads
Damn good feeling to run these roads
Damn good feeling to run these roads

Outlaw country deserves to make a comeback. These pop singers calling themselves country is a disgrace. Keep em coming.
OUT LAW COUNTRY (Cheryl-archer)
It is already happening, Andrew. Tyler is one good addition to the work. I literally hate the Nashville scene, though. Worst music in music history. Welcome to change, Tyler.
I saw David Allan Coe last month, he described where the term outlaw country came from. Great story!
Its alive and well.
True that
I don't always listen to Tyler Childers, but when I do, so do my neighbors.
You're a great neighbor.
Tyler Childers is so good and raw man. I am a huge fan. th-cam.com/video/nWpwnKcJzrY/w-d-xo.html I also dig this guy Brett McDaniel. He isn't well known and I think he plays out of The Alabama area. So good man. ahahah Aaron
@@OurVinyl yea, it’s high time I introduced Tyler Childers to my neighbors!
Our neighbors listen to him almost nightly. Lol
Hell yuh my guy!
Now I know how my Grandpa felt the first time he listened to Hank Sr.
Great artist i just got his record yes i said record not cd
Fucken a man he's our Hank that's for sure
Nice my man.
Tyler is cool but he is 100% nowhere not even close to Hank
Then there's this this guy. ^
Tyler's awesome that's all that needs to be said lol
I’m from North Carolina I’m African American and I love his music my friends look at me crazy when I play him in my truck I always tell them you don’t like it you can walk
Love from Milwaukee Wisconsin! Don't ever let them make you feel wrong for doin you!👌💯 Music is the heartbeat of the soul and it beats the same in all of us. Regardless of the genre, if it brings you peace or invokes some kind of emotion, you're doin it right. And thats all you need fam👍🤙
I'm Slavic, Eastern European green card dude that does about the same thing, just moved to TX too
They dont ever walk i guarantee ✊️
Us metalheads do the same haha. But right on man. Music is universal and an amazing experience that brings balance to the crazy ride we all call life. Much love from Texas.
yeeyee!
I really appreciate how he doesn’t fake the accent like most country singers do. THIS is what a country accent sounds like.
I’ve only known a few guys with this accent during my time in the service; all of them were from Kentucky, too.
@@OscarDeltaSierra100%. kentucky accent is supreme, and i say that as a southerner from another state lol
And what real Country music sounds like!!
I'm from a holler in southeastern ky and I listen to him because he reminds me of home. Nothing like a Appalachian accent it's one of the oldest English dialects in America still vastly unchanged since our people came here from across the pond
@@melissasmith8155check out the movie Songcatcher. It's about that same subject
Who else couldnt stop listening to Tyler after first hearing him. His voice is haunting in a beautiful way
We couldn't stop either, and we're not upset about it. His voice is one of a kind.
@Jerry Rowe Welcome, Jerry! Enjoy the discovery!
Never really listened to this genre of music, but I heard “Feathered Indians” and thought man this is good old country, turns out this guy is almost my age lol.
I like any type of music as long as it connects with the soul. Or as kids like to say these days...when that shit hits different.
@@diegobert4033 "...as long as it connects with the soul." Couldn't have said it better ourselves!
Realest country music around today
19 years free of the needle, so much loss back then and since, grateful for that experience, grateful I made it out.
Good on you! Me, I'm 5 years free of the bottle.
20 years off the needle. Know exactly what you mean brother. I can honestly say now that I am grateful of the experience. Sometimes I forget the gratitude of waking up with a needle in my arm. So close to not being here, every day is a blessing.
This is real country. Roots and all. I need me more of this.
I'm a underground miner/driller and this is our song as we are going down for our shift your bad ass man keep making awesome tunes from the the crew at tug underground mine
Very cool!
Thanks for the work you do, may the lord watch over you and your crew!!

This is SO much better than the album version.
Agreed
just him and his guitar
Live is always better!
Definitely!!
Feels more raw and Real doesnt it? My man!!!! Feed me More!
The reason Tyler isn’t taking over the country charts is what’s wrong in this country
Awesome song
is the problem individualism or anti-whiteness?
@@Wrightwing dawg wut
You would want this kind of talent mixed into the "COUNTRY POP" garbage that has taken over our airwaves? The top 40 pop music of the 80s with a pair of cowboy boots next to it? Yeah..the difference is that this artist is authentic, and plays great music that people of all genres, roots and influences can relate to, and deeply appreciate. And so many other musicians with songs of equal caliber... which there will never be a "chart" for. Excellence is independent of consensual recognition...
@@Wrightwingit’s our government kid.

I thought that was awesome also
22 million views and I still haven't heard the local "country" radio station play this or any of Tyler's music.
Because is a half assed cover of Steve Earl's Copperhead Road
@@easttnlocalmusic6313 copperhead road is a good jam. A bit played out. White House road is more compliant to today's times..
@@stephenfranco964 exactly my point a half assed cover. Just about any musician can take an awesome classic and change the lyrics. It's like taking free bird updating the music to today's times and calling it safe bird.
Because it says road in the title? The song content is nowhere near the same or reworked at all. Quit grasping a straws. Old stick in the mud attitudes like this don’t grow the genre at all

Saw his show 10/12/2018 in Boston at the Royale and he was phenomenal!!~!!!!!!!
I saw him yesterday at the Revolution Concert house in Garden city.
Jason Landeros I love to listening to this guy,
You can hear the soul through his voice man
When is he coming to Florida??
I don't know but he was in Garden City, Idaho this past Sunday. If you ever get a chance to go to one of his concerts do go because the energy is incredible.

This is what country should be. If country was all like this, with honesty and soul, I’d be way more apt to listen.

This is appalachian music. Wouldn't quite call it country. I miss WV.

Brother this is one of the best songs that I've ever heard personally
Who else likes this version over the newer full band version? Feel like the new ones take away from the sound the song has that “rough edge “
jcxstargazer came here after I heard the new version and I think I like both. This one seems more raw and personal and his new version sounds more upbeat with all the other instruments
The song doesn't have the same feel to me. It's good, but not something I'd have to sit and finish out if I passed by while it was played on the street. If I heard this jamming out on a corner somewhere, I likely couldn't just walk away.
Definitely
jcxstargazer love this stripped down version far better!
Like this one better but they both have a place at my table.
It's 2021 I'm a hip hop head (swore off country music at a pretty young age) looking for good lyrics and then I stumble upon this guy here. It's such a profound thing to know that all the great talents of the last ten years haven't been on the radio, VEVO, or had their names in lights. You have to earn the right to hear the greatest art of this generation by working for it. Slogging through comments for suggested artists and through rag entertainment newspapers to take a chance on random small venues denoting genres that are so damn opaque in their description. Bluegrass, folk...hell, even real hip hop and jazz all went underground.
Those who aren't worthy of hearing these sublime moments have written off the notion of there being anything great since the 80's because they didn't hear it on FM or shoved into their faces by television. Share these moments with those who quit searching and remind them that art is alive and well, but you have to get off your ass and look for it. Just like this song. A twinkle of youth and a tear came to my 60 year old dads eye to hear it when I shared this (and more) with him. A little injection of life and youth, and suddenly he wants to find live music again.
Thank you for that, Tyler.
Hell. Yes. To all of the above.

Coming from Ohio, this song is really special to me, my best friend recently passed away. At his balloon release my buddy played this. Just straight goosebumps every listen. R.I.P Carlos Tarango 💔🕊😪
He describes, to absolute perfection, the destinations of all my friends of 25+ years ago...
"Lawmen, women or a (shallow) grave"
He's pretty good, he should be famous...
He is
You can really hear the pain in this dude's voice when he sings. Just found Tyler Childers and I absolutely love this
You’d probably like Colter Wall too ;)
I find it crazy that someone can give this a thumbs down. There is so much heart put in to every song this man makes. Keep country country!
As a NY Yankee who bleeds blue, I can't stop playing this man's music
Ladies and gentlemen please rise for..Tyler Childers.🙋🙌👍💣
I almost wish he would have stayed in this lane. The emotion and raw truth is there when it comes to his acoustic music.
It's not every day you hear a voice that gives you cold chills 😍
Damn right
I miss this Tyler
Keep singing it! Wish more of this music was on the radio. Anymore it’s pop and all about money. Guys like you keep this style of music from fading away.
Somebody give this guy the CMA Award already and put him in the Country Music Hall Of Fame.
Try paul cauthen. Cocaine country dancing. Then "holy ghost fire live performance" its black and white. Its bad ass
So much depth with a little pain in his voice he is the depiction country should be going!!!!
