    I won a rack of 8 Ball tonight, using one of the safeties you mentioned (thinning off my ball and sending the CB around the table behind blockers, using some english). Thanks, Tor!

    Several of us have been playing a lot of kick safe lately. That game really helps to fine tune your defense. Plus it's nice to have a game to practice safeties that's fun.

      @@ajschroetlin2196 www.zerox-billiards.com/support Basically, the player who played the safety gets ball in hand. The player who fouls gets a point - if they get to 5 or 7 points (or whatever number is decided) then they are out of the ring game.

    I use to say, "when in Doubt, Spread them out!" Basically, get distance between the object ball and the cue ball. This theory has worked for me many times.

  • @PoolProblems
    @PoolProblems ปีที่แล้ว

    Many of the 10-ball examples here are good two way shots. I think you should've mentioned the importance of calling the object ball in case it goes and you have a shot on the next ball.

  • @raygrinders3918
    @raygrinders3918 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    At 49:52 , I think it would improve your video to point out that these two shots are "fouling-on-purpose" and result in giving the opponent ball-in-hand. This is truly a desperation strategy that I heartily endorse. (Hence the accompanying strategy of "Don't pocket a ball if it leaves you down to one target that can't be pocketed.") Also, such a shot does not require preventing another foul on the shot, so no balls have to touch cushions, etc.

    Watching the 8-ball is helpful, but one suggestion would be to tell us if the player is on solids/stripes ans then pause and ask us what we would do first. It's a little passive us just watching and would help us train our own thinking.

    Don't you have to hit a rail after the object ball to be a valid hit? I noticed you have a few finesse shots where you came off the rail and hid the que ball but never reached the other rail with the object ball. Great videos!

    • @ZeroXBilliards
      @ZeroXBilliards  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, yes, you do have to hit a rail. On the soft spin safeties the cue ball is striking the same rail after contact with the object ball.

    some of the 8 ball defensive shots won't work with ball- in- hand rules since you have to hit one of your balls first or its a foul.

  • @MrJdsenior
    @MrJdsenior 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    OK, so how many racks did you have to play to show a two pack? Obviously, you are very good, but EVERYONE has limits, even the pool gods, they don't run everything.
    Excellent tips, it is ALL percentages and really understanding an pegging those down accurately is very difficult, especially when several parameters are involved. I am convinced this is one of the main knowledge areas where pros excel over even excellent amateurs. Patterning is another. And obviously, there's that execution. Predatory instinct on the table and heart are other big factors.
    Then there's PRACTICE, the elephant in the room, which improves most of the above. Watching vids like yours or Dr Dave's (tips from experts) helps me, a lot, I know that. Watching pros do their thing does too, especially when the commentators are very knowledgeable and forthcoming. Just my silly two cents.

  • @kevinshockey2765
    @kevinshockey2765 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Safe play is necessary yes but to me I believe in aggressive offense run tables and breakouts because you never know you leave a guy a hell of a good safety shot and he'll do a Efren Reyes and pull it out trust me because I am one to do so lol.

  • @JWRobinson1967
    @JWRobinson1967 ปีที่แล้ว

    I understand some of these shots. But, many of them allow a look at a shot by your opponent, after the safety is completed. I hated to see it. The credibility of this video suffered because of that issue. If your opponent can see his ball, after your safety, is it really a safety?

    • @ZeroXBilliards
      @ZeroXBilliards  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When there are fewer balls on the table it's not always possible to hide the cue ball. And trying to hide the cue ball behind only one ball sometimes leads to selling out. So the player has to understand the percentage of success for hiding the cue ball and for playing a defensive shot (as in several of the shots in this video) where the opponent is left without a offensive shot even if they can see their ball.
