    Installed this same kit on my son’s 2005 Tacoma 4x4 access cab. He is running the 3.5” Durobumps. You definitely want to trim off any excess thread on the u-bolts down to 1/2”. When you bottom out the bumps that extra thread will contact the frame, it hurts your spine….:). I chose their shortest u-bolt option 7.75” (standard) on stock springs with a 1” block I got from Toytec. With this setup the u-bolt length was perfect, no trimming with about 1/2” of thread showing. The Durobumps are a progressive bump stop. The first 1 3/4 inches is very soft then it gets much more dense and firmer.

    Great video. Didn’t realize this was so simple to do. I bought Durobumps to go with my lift kit but didn’t think about the U bolts. My first time off-road with my truck, guess what hung up… my factory Ubolt bracket. Will be ordering these. Thanks for the tip.

    Rob, maybe use some red lock tight so you won’t have to keep checking the torque!
    And maybe you might want to cut the ends of the u bolts because when those bump stops get compressed all the way you’re going to run into some bad problems you can snap the you bolts or bend them, I seen it happen on those flip kits!! Lol
    Just a suggestion....👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

    • @RobDaman

      thanks for the tips. I haven't seen any suggestions to use loctite. I speculate it's due to the u bolts naturally stretching.

    • @spartan8390
      @spartan8390 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      NO! WET TORQUE AND DRY TORQUE ARE DIFFERENT! Bolts are torque to yield (TTY) in most cases and you don't want to roll the dice on the drivetrain. Not saying there isn't a way to do it, but run numbers and compare torque figures first.

    • @MichaelWilliams-qk9rm
      @MichaelWilliams-qk9rm 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      U bolts are not a set it and forget it thing just because u used loctite. It is highly recommended to do the retorques. With the proper tools like torque adapters it only takes minutes to accomplish. I fix helicopters for a living and im always doing retorques. U can also use torque stripe to mark ur hardware to see if your hardware has turned between intervals.

    When I installed my Alcan springs I ordered a 9in set thinking I would need longer bolts and I ended cutting most of it off! Now that I am ready for the flip kit I would like to have the correct length to start with! I am leaning toward 7.75in but maybe I should do the 8.85in and cut them down again? The length Ubolt you purchased was what please?

    • @RobDaman

    What size Bumps you get ? 4.25” or 5.25” ? And what’s the gap in between the Top of the Bumpstop and where it hits the part of the frame ?

    • @RobDaman
      @RobDaman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine are 4.25"
      I changed my leaf pack and have a lighter load (no hardshell and CargoGlide is lighter than Decked) so it's about 2 inches. (eye balled not measured)

    Just and observation, that exhaust dump....how well is it working on heating up your brake line and spare tire?
    I know why you chopped it, but I would have at least re-routed the pipe or left it a little longer so it isn’t dumping directly over your brake line and heating up that spare tire, not to mention, heating up that axle as well.
    Just my .02, it’s your truck, you do as you please.

    • @RobDaman
      @RobDaman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for your concern.
      I just drove 21 miles in stop and go traffic. When I got home, I touched everything bare handed but it wasn't any warmer than any other areas mentioned. Pipe is pretty far from those items. I'd be happy to do a video of it if you could fund the tools to measure temperatures of the aforementioned areas.
      here's the vid of me cutting it: th-cam.com/video/3SEhcdDcR2w/w-d-xo.html There's a few angles that you may be able to see the clearance.
      Again thanks for concerns.
