  • This is brilliant. If you want to understand ancient ideas of astral immortality--including Jewish "gnostic" and Kabalistic circles, this exposition on how the earliest Christian astrological iconography developed is essential.

I uploaded David Wray's lecture on astrology in the ancient world, as seen on coins and inscriptions on March 2, 2023. It has been very appreciated with over 10K views. Here is the last of four David Wray movies on various more specific topics, especially related to coins and the signs of heaven.

This is fascinating, I can't believe there's actual answers to the questions of the sign of Jonah and all of the numbers in the two "feeding" stories! I always wondered about those things, and it seems like there is leads more astrology in the gospels going by this presentation.

An excellent observation. By fish I think we have to mean dolphins. They live in the water but breath air and periodically achieve escape velocity before returning to the water. The anchor and dolphin was the earliest “christian” symbol.

Theories based on theories based on conjectures based on predictions based on theories based on theories based on a conjecture based on another theory based on another conjecture.
Unless these theories are rooted in some decipherable ancient texts, we have nothing.

THE Gospel of Jesus was originally one book, written by Lazarus in consultation with the Apostles [John 21:24] and published soon after Jesus left them on their own. The religion was hijacked by Rome, the Gospel was broken up scrambled adulterated into a bunch of competing narratives. Later four of those adulterated gospels were canonized with falsely ascribed authorship and a Gnosticism cover-story.
It was the finding of an original Gospel of Jesus scroll in Jerusalem that gained the Knights Templar power over the Church and their eventual undoing when the church finally retaliated against them Friday 13th.

No, but that's a mean Jupiter-Saturn in Cetus near the 1st of Aries! Sept 23, 2017 is more like the Virgin & Child with 3 wise men attending in Leo. (Is 7:14/Rev 12:1) [Using Redshift 8]

I appreciate the dedication and perseverance that you and others that I've been watching on TH-cam have tried to get to the truth. I can't help but notice that there is a hole in everyone's' understanding about the early Church. Having being Baptized in the Holy Ghost when I was 19, 63 now, I totally understand what I read in the Bible because it happens to us, today, on a regular basis.
Can I reason with you a moment? You know Jesus did things He knew was going to severely gauld the religious leaders of His day.. He was going to fulfill the Law and satisfy it with His death. There was a change from Judaism to the New Covenant. I'm not surprise that James would continue in Judaism Remember "mother Mary" and His brethren thought He was "beside Himself". He said His decuples were His mother and brethren. He told the Pharisees that they thought they had eternal life from the Scriptures (OT) when it was the Scriptures that was speaking of Him. It was those Scriptures that He open up to His disciples so that they could understand who He was. This is the same way Pauls' doctrine was established.
Now, you would expect, if the things He said were so important, He would have made sure there was an accurate record of everything. But He didn't. Why? It was because He wasn't going to be gone long. To explain this, we have to move away from Hellenistic trinitarianism. God is a Spirit and He is holy. So, who is the holy Spirit? Lets say God decided to create a human man to dwell in, like the OT holy of holies. God would still be everywhere. When He dwelt in the OT Tabernacle, He was still everywhere. When Gods' sinless man died for a debt that He didn't owe, He paid our debt. Now, clean, we were fit to receive God to dwell in our tabernacle. There is only one God and He is a Spirit. Therefore Jesus came back on the day of Pentecost. And He has been leading the Spirit filled Body of Christ ever since. The Kingdom is within us. He puts His anointing on what He approves of. When the first century people went the wrong direction, Jesus removed His anointing. Without the power of the Spirit, they fell into sin and became a man lead organization. We were forgiven of sin so Jesus could indwell us. If we walk, live, in the Spirit we don't fulfill the desires of the flesh nature. It is dead. dead flesh doesn't manifest. We must be continually praying in the power of the Spirit to continue walking in the Spirit. Jesus didn't leave any written material because He was going to lead us Himself.

So I think the basic question is would Jews recognize the Zodiac and astrology.
To answer the question we have to understand who hebrews were and the origins of Israelite civilization. There is a body of evidence supporting the expansion of Sumerian influence into Canaan prior to Sargon, although tentative.
During the Sumerian period we see the developement of classical angular geometry, with a circle divided into 360'. It would not be surprising if the Ziggurats were used for pkaces of star observation. The original name of bethlehem was the house of the guardian of Enki, a Sumerian god. El Elyon was the god of high places, as the name El Shaddia also supports an amorite name.
During the period that followed Sargon invaded Canaan as well as his descendants, we see a consolidation of trade and destruction layers in the time before the babylon that are likely attributed to these incursions.
During this period Akkadia, being the cornerstone semetic civilization of the period. The venus tablet of Ammisaduqa found in a babylonia setting is believed to be of Akkadian origin.
Although this is a bit early for the Apkallu, the sages of Enki, which are found in first millenium sumerian kings list but not second or third millenium. It seems likely that the sages were semi-deifications of sages from the babylonian and Kassite periods.
The old babylonian empire followed tumultous years after the Akkadian empire fell to the Gutians and then a neoSumerian empire was reestablished not nearly as widespread as the Sargonic Empire. Despite this the king of Mari, who had authority in canaan remained firmly in control of the middle Euphrates, indicating some stability in the trade going diwn the Euphates. In sumer proper Gudea of Lagash was using electional archeology during the Gutian period.
As a consequence the is a rise in power of Amorites, originally from the mediterranean and they have peaked the interest in other nearby culture astrology. The Babylonians would produce the first notable catalog "three stars each" just before the LBAC and at the same time Egypt was also developing its own astronomy. But trade was between Mesopotamia was important, and by the Sixteenth century Lapis Lazuli from Afganistan was reaching Egypt.
So this places us in the backdrop of early Astrology which is taking place in mesopotamia and Egypt, and the exchange of ideas is taking place through the levant. Isra'el is first noted in the 13th century and by the end of the LBAC has established a confederation of tribes loyal to the Babylonian/Sumerian god El with numerous mesoptamian worship sites scattered around the levant indicating a thriving exchange of belief with mesopotamia. In fact, but for a brief period of Egyptian incursion, Israel/Judea are almost continually dominated by the Assyrians and Babylonians, at the end of the period many are in babylon. The NeoAssyrian period produced the Enuma Anu Enlil, a collection of 500 exchanges dealing with astrology. At the same time in the south Chaldean astronomy developed, basically the template for the greek Zodiac. As we know toward the end of the period the elite of Jerusslem ended up in the neobabylonian core cities.
As a consequence we should fully expect that high officials and powerful peopke in Judea were exposed to astrology, as were officials held captive and later released.
Jews in the hellenized world. The zodiac is the association of small animals of the wheel with times of the year. During the late 4th century the greeks invaded and conquered persia and remained a strong contendor until 165 BC and the maccabean revolt. But Judea only freed itself from one dynasty only to be shackled by another even more powerful empire. And the romans heavily relied on greek culture for their scholarship. Many Jews were heavily hellenized.
But theres another problem with Judaism. In the late second century John Hycanus subjugated surrounding "israelite culture", people still following the old and greek gods and there appears to be resentment. So the practices people had might have gone underground. One of those places was the galilee. But individual practices and taboos are an unknown. Could jesus and his followers see back into the old religions, or where they guessing about how the law was corrupted by the scribes?
Jesus was born near and raised near Sepharas, its obvioys that the city was hellenized and he his disciples were exposed to this, but to argue that Mary was maknig sense of a once per few thousand year event as proported falliciously in Matthew is a stretch. Remember Jesus and his disciples have no direct knowledge of astrological events at his birth. The only conduit is his mother mary. How would she come to know about a rare event that only elite astrologers would discuss? Imagine mary, illegitimate son about yo be born, teaching over to her star manual and noticing a rare esoteric event about to happen. Not likely.

Thanks James. Archaeology is always so much more helpful than historians and their "maybe it is because" some dubious author claims something based on a dubious provenance.
Neale and Jacob are going to loose their shit over this material that supports mythicism.

About 10% of a population feel called to shepherd/control/deceive the sheep. About 40% feel a need for a shepherd. "But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd." (Mat 9:36 NKJ) About 40% don't care and 10% don't want to lead or be lead. The shepherds, with satan's inspiration, are the chief inventors of lies. The Creator delegated to humans the use of language to name and communicate ideas, feelings, actions, objects etc. related to aspects of the creator, the creation and life. They have said that "truth is stranger than fiction", but that is false. Truth is restricted to reality, but fiction from the mind of man is unlimited. The connection of meaning to words and symbols is arbitrary and guided by the subjective drives and desires of humans. Linguistics teaches us about the subjective fluidity of languages. I remember in art history how art critics could each get their own subjective meaning from various aspects of a painting. I used to think, why don't they ask the painter? If we could only talk to the Christ, we would get the real truth about scriptural meaning and intent. Some individual fantasized about the meaning of the stars, planets, graphic symbols etc. and their sheep simply passed it on as "truth". My mother used to say, "Oh what tangled webs we weave, when first we practise to deceive."
