I've been hoya obsessed since sitting at my grandmas table, nibbling toast, while staring at her hanging carnosa in a ceramic parrot planter as a child. We had a cutting in our west facing window growing up and it would fill our cedar home with the most exquisite fragrance on summer nights. That cutting is 47 years old now and I have my own cutting and several other cultivars. They are truly special.
@@onlyplants It's true! I don't know what happened to my grandmothers plant, or her cool planter. But I feel honoured to have a cutting and to take care of my mother's plant.
Love everything about this video. Not boring at all! Your voice is really soothing. It’s a very informative video. The music is just right. I love this Chanel.
I've got a little tip for how to speed up propagation. I saw for the first one, the Hoya retusa, you cut each cutting individually, put your shears down, pinched the leaves and stuck it in the soil. This takes a lot of time. The way we used to do it when I worked as a gardener is that we'd cut the whole vine and then just stick the lowest stem, where we just cut, in the soil and then cut above the node. Stick the next stem right beside the first one, cut above, repeat. This works well for any vining plants with fairly sturdy, not too long internodes (the stem between nodes). It's also easier for plants with smaller leaves, because if the leaves are big you have to do some manual tucking and turning to fit multiple cuttings. Don't know if you apply this method later in the video, haven't watched far into it yet. Btw, you can stop the white sap by putting the cut areas in warm water for just a little bit, no more than a few minutes. This works with ficuses too, and really any plant that produces the milky sap. Though this is probably more useful to any viewers reading this than it is to you, as you said it doesn't bother you ;)
No Young Prince, I am not bored by this. This is educational and one does not have to sit and watch faithfully. One can do something while you are doing plant play. Background music is nice. Thank you for sharing love for plants.
I saw your video yesterday. I kept waking up all night thinking about giving my Hoyas a haircut. Today I did. Some of them never had a haircut in 13 years so they are large and some are 20+ from a friend. Some are only about 5-6. And I was greedy!!! Omg I have soooo many cuttings!! And the plants look great with their haircuts. Thank you for reaching me that it’s ok to trim them like this. Very inspiring. I will have plants soon for plant swaps.

15:21 If the cutting has aerial roots I've been able to water propagate complete wilted thirsty cuttings. If there are multiple leaves I reduce to one. If the leaf is large I'll trim it down as much as 75%

Im not a huge fan of Hoya because I don’t appreciate the vining, but my friend gave me 2 cuttings last night & they’re beautiful plants. One was the pubicallus splash & the carnosa crimson something.
